Hey guys

Im planning to move in UK in the next month or so and i need some tips (so i wont go busto to quick )

I did find two poker staking groups ( i will join in 1 of them) , but i got to move to UK (and they will accept me) (

In what city from Uk should i move ?( so this way rent will not be too expensive )

I will be grind mode full-time so all i need is something with a store near the apartament and the apartament to not be in an dangeurs neighborhood

My bankrool for travel its arround 1.000$ ( hopefully will be enough, untill i get up on my feet)

Im coming from a cheap country (Romania) , so i guess de the tranzition will be quite hard but i kinda have no choice

I would get some help from the staking group if i play the x nr of games we agree on (Like i will keep 100% of rakeback and ive been a 24+tables grinder) ( and i would play on those european sites) ( here in romania i dont have acces to  many pokersites)

If necesary i guess i will take even a job

I know aint enough ( and thats why im saying im planing to leave in a month+ so i can add more to the travel bankrool meanwhile)

If i wouldv leave the country  today i have 1.000$

No offense buddy

TY for the quick tip

@ProMode93

Are you a Romanian citizen and registred so on Unibet, do your default language on Unibet say Romanian ?

If yes, then you cant do anything no matter what country of residence, even if you go to UK or Asia or whatever....you will still have a account who is locked to your Native Citizenship\Country.

By the Unibet rules you have to play in the Language you registred in....so unless you give Unibet a diffrent proof of Citizenship I dont think you can play diffrent games\poker or alike as a UK or Scandinavian Citizen...

Any Unibet staff should answer you more clearly..

Last year I was inquiring a possible move to Poland from Finland and it got to a point where my account at Finland would be closed and a new one would be created in Poland. I actually got to visit Poland but decided not to stay then so no changes were done. I'm not sure but different countries have different gambling laws and if they are tied to the created account then, not sure if anything has changed though.

@Zipfil Quite good post

I did ask some romanian friend who did travel a little bit (other countryies than UK), and told me if i can prove to the pokersite that at the moment im in that country will allow me ( something like a bill in my name that shows the adress and a bankaccount in the respective country)

Im planing to play on stanjames and on an ipoker (wich i dont have accounts there yet)

I can make accounts on those pokersites from romania /as romanian but the government did put a law that blocks all the people inside romania to acces those sites without licence

Hi

I'm a UK resident living in a reasonably cheap city and I make a decent amount of money playing poker. I'd advise you to be very, very careful with only $1,000 behind you. I still have to keep doing my 'normal' job at the minute because my bankroll, which is significantly larger than yours, is too risky if I have a bad downswing at the stakes needed to make a living. There's a good Romanian pro on these forums who told me that even though poker income is untaxed in the UK, the cost of living is still too high to move here. For the same reasons, I'm actually looking at moving to Eastern Europe or Asia when I do turn professional for the same reasons.

I'm happy to give you some advice though. The cheapest cities in old industrial areas, so a lot of the north of England and much of Scotland and Wales. If you're serious about doing this then I'd suggest starting with a roomshare in a town near one of the old industrial cities. Places like Hartlepool, Burnley and Warrington should be pretty cheap but they're also quite grim. In general, stay away from the South East. Have a play with the dark green areas on this map.

Spareroom.com tends to be a good resource if you want to rent a room in somebody;s house.

Good luck!

You should be looking at a much bigger bankroll before thinking of making such a move.

Ideally, you want to move in with family or friends abroad. Does not have to be uk.

You MUST be able to satisfy your status to gaming companies to open accounts.

There will be cheaper accomodation available BUT even they will require a deposit, reference or/and advance payment.

Do plenty of research before commiting to a move and make sure you have a fallback option ie enough money to get home

As has been said, Very often, even with houseshares, you will need to sign  6 month tenancy agreement, pay couple months rent as deposit (that very often you won’t get back) and a months rent in advance.  But you won’t get that far because you’ll need employer references and no landlord will accept you, you could prob get round this if you paid the full 6 months up front but you don’t have the money.  There’s prob some places that will do less regulated lodger agreements but you’re going to be very limited.

Consider your mental health; living in a Northern UK city in a houseshare where everything will seem expensive to you, with no friends or contacts, very different culture, limited money, with a stresssful isolating job.  Obv I don’t know your personal situation, but all this to grind rakeback on ipoker?

there must be so many other countries that would give you a better quality of life for less money and still access ipoker/Stan James.

I’d have some serious concerns about the ethics and professionalism of any staking group that is encouraging you in this plan.

@monkeyheaven

Got to say you got some good points(top comment)

I might seach meanwhile for some Romanians who travel there and willing to share ( this way might be easier)

About me what i can say

I usualy did this home aswell grinding for atleast 6days a week and 8hours a day kinda got for me (so about playing this much and being kinda isolded become normal

About the staking deal i kinda want it (because gives me higher stakes than my usual av stake 9$),

Im sure the staking group would help me in the future soon but cant help me to much from the jump ( with the relocation and everything), atleast without knowing  me atleast a little bit

And aint only about one pokersite (atleast 3-4) european ones

Looks kinda risky from perspective too ( but i got to try because i wanna better for my self)( kinda tired living in country with average salary of 300e) and only rent its 250e

I guess if things will not go well ( i can alwayse come home and recover the makeup on pokerstars/888)

@ProMode93 I think it's too risky what you want to do, i think a better alternative will be to move in a small city in romania and grind from there, if you can grind more than 250 euros witch is enough to live comfortable as 1 person in the small cities, then it's pointless to move. I think u are looking from a gambler's perspective and its bad man to not see the dark side if you can't make it its a big step back to your confidence and job (poker). I see u as a little stubborn, but please just take 1 week vacation and think about it really carefully. it's a big life changer. And if you still decide its the best move, then good luck to you friend, may you run golden. #TakeNRG #BlessRNG

Man, this is the weirdest staking deal that I've ever heard of. I heard of some staking groups but never heard about "hey dude, you have to move here, if you want to be staked". From this point until becoming a slave when you go there is just a small step.

Good luck with that!

Wouldnt recomend moving to UK to play, your living costs here will be a lot more putting a lot more pressure on you when you have a downswing.

With all the changes due because of us leaving the EU you may be limited to what help you can get from the government in the future if things go wrong.Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Myself think you would be better booking yourself into an all inclusive in Malta for 3 months, that way all your costs are covered and take it from there. At least that way you get a nice holiday if it doesnt work out and wont have the same pressure of earning for them 3 months.

You can exchange UO tickets again all is unicorns and rainbows in Unibet land.

Hey, if the rakeback grind on ipoker :scared: doesn't work out, at least the party girls in England are top notch and known for classy behaviour:

So I see your plan as a win-win-win-win situation. What's the worst that can happen to you? You'll end up a kidney short, big deal...👍

We're gonna win on so many levels! We're gonna win, win, win. You're gonna get so tired of winning, you're gonna say: "Mr. President please, we don't wanna win anymore, it's too much!" And I'm gonna say: "I'm sorry, we're gonna keep winning because we're gonna make America great again!"

1: 1 years Visa easy to get cost you below 400 USD include MultiEntry

2: Cost of living is low.

3: You can play legaly on Unibet I checked it myself...since I am in SE Asia but going back home his month.

4: No need to worry about snow lol

You have to consider your deal. You are going to get a 50% split profit. So, if u need 1.5K, you have to won 3K, and it's not easy. Are you staked for mtt right? the variance is too big, what r you going to do if you have 3 months breakeven?

you are going to get coaching, yes of course.

you are going to improve your poker skills, of course.

you r going to pay a lot of money, Yes.

My advice. if you want to play poker, and improve, took your 1K travel bankroll, and use 500 for your poker bank, and 100 or 200 for videos, CR, DC, etc. Is exactly the same, and more cheaper.

Sorry for my english,
Regards.

Stan James is on MPN, not iPoker. It's owned by Unibet so I think the discussion is fine here. They're doing away with the Stan James name next year anyway.

https://www.casinopedia.org/news/stan-james-name-drop-kindred-unibet

On a side note, this may open the Irish market so we get some more players here :)

Have you read my blog HERE... It's long isn't it :)

Did decide after all of this to grind on my own until end of the year and to put on the side for travel, rent and other expenses( hope i can have atleast 3-4k) and than give a try to Malta

Malta seems a cool place to be ( and not to much more expensive than Uk)

And there i have acces to partypoker, pokerstars.fr winamax.fr and other sites

Thank you everyone for tips ( really nice to see both sides of the coin)

StartlingGrope has already said everything I wanted to. There are some cheapish places in Britain, but if you've never visited this country you might be shocked at the generally high cost of living in comparison to where you're from. (Housing prices are out of control in all the desirable areas). I know of several poker players that have gone in the opposite direction (i.e. from the UK to somewhere else in Europe) because it's so hard to pay the rent with poker winnings over here. That said, the UK has a significant Romanian immigrant population. Most of the immigrants have proper jobs though.
