Yaro85 Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Hi everybody I play poker only for fun and recreational but I got a chance to play serious tournament. Everything started when I won 25€UO ticket in eSports Battle Royale IV - Betting Competition. Then I played satellites until i won UO live package in Sunday Final .My problem is that i never play live.I'm a little bit stressed but sure it's going to be a great time and experience. The opportunity to meet new people especially from this community. I saw a few Unibet Open broadcasts on Twitch and I would like to feel the famous Unibet atmosphere...I would be grateful for any tips and advice from the more experienced players. Maybe someone has any experience from your own first tournament which you want to share thank you in advance
Livertool Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Congrats for winning and good luck to the open :)Never been there but would love to go someday...
Ridex Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Hi, @Yaro85. Congrats with cool ticket Actually best advice is to play for fun. Less bluffing and more tight ABC poker. There will be a lots of recreational players, so try to watch with attention how they are betting. Weak players mostly will be confused about sizing and order. Try to look on hands of your opponents. Not experienced players cant control themself and will show you when they are nervous. Also i like to watch on players reaction when they look first time on cards after dealing. Lots of information. Sorry for poor english. Good luck :cash:
BillyR23 Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Well done @Yaro85 Also here a thread with some tips for playing live https://www.unibetcommunity.com/t5/Unibet-Open-UK-Tour/Playing-poker-Live-In-need-for-some-help/m-p/46773#M585 You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind...
VikingsAF Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Congrats man @Yaro85, great job :)It's defenitly an extremely cool experience. I had the chance to go there twice now, and I really didn't regret.PLaying live is way more fun than behind a pc. The feel of real cards and chips makes it 10 times better :D (The chips are heavier than you'd expect :p)You are lucky that you can experience this first time almost for free (except for the effort you'd have to put in winning the ticket ofcourse), this takes a lot of weight from your shoulders I think :) For the first time you shouldn't go there with huge expectations, that way anything you do earn is a +, because remember what you already got is never lost ;) (the awesome experience)Aside for that you are very lucky aswell to experience this first experience with unibet :) It's a really friendly environment, and all players are really nice towards newer players. Making mistakes is human ;)I didn't play the main event tough, so I don't know how a 1k tourney feels, but I think it's not that different from the smaller games. (Except for blind levels, which makes the play slower for the main event). I see now that the circumstances of ones birth are irrelevant... It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are.
Yaro85 Posted March 19, 2017 Author Posted March 19, 2017 thanks @Livertool hopes that You go UO soonthanks @Ridex surely I will be played for fun . My English is also not the best@BillyR23 thanks for link there is a lot of useful information@VikingsAF thanks I have to take advantage of this opportunity, especially for free. My expectations are not huge enough that I will not be the first person to eliminated from the tournament:happy:
YpresX Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Good job @Yaro85, it could be useful if you play a few live tournaments before UO - maybe there are some nice events at your local casino. I remember my first big tourneys when i was supernervous and couldnt really focus on the game and made some silly mistakes. Still do, haha :D .Anyway, from my experience from the last UO if you dont do that well on the tables you can still have a ton of good time with fantastic Unibet community members. Get rekt
Yaro85 Posted March 20, 2017 Author Posted March 20, 2017 thanks @YpresX Unfortunately in Poland where I live we do not have live poker tournaments. All Polish players are going to play abroad. But your idea is very good
pirahn Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 @Yaro85 Congrats. The only advise is dont be shy. Introduce yourself to the community guys.If your not sure of anything just ask.You will have plenty of chips in the poker tournament for you to get used to players and surroundings. Again, if your not sure about the rules of live play, just ask. It's a whole lot of fun, enjoy. See you in Copenhagen
Yaro85 Posted March 23, 2017 Author Posted March 23, 2017 @pirahn I hope to meet some community members in Copenhagen. For sure I will have many questions later.I'm very busy right now. For this moment thank you and Good luck in Copenhagen
sgriff Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Many congatulations. That is quite an achievement! If you haven't played live before I'd strongly suggest visiting your local card room and playing a low stake tournament beforehand. Play tight and try to last as long as you can - you are there for the experience and to learn what to do rather than winning it so play accordingly. You will learn the live basics such as string betting not being allowed. Don't be daunted - people are really friendly and dealers do an excellent job in helping you out. If you don't get the chance to play live before the Open then again don't worry - people will help you in the Open. It's just a bit easier if you get your first game out of the way before the 'big one'.With regards to the Open event itself, remember it is 1hr levels ( from memory) so you can and should be very patient. There is no need to force the pace. Just take your time and enjoy the experience. My first Open saw me make day 2 and only lost out due to a KK v QQ cooler so just take your time and see what happens. My second Open I turned up over confident and forced the pace and made an early exit. You will enjoy yourself as it's a great social occasion too. Do go to the welcome drinks and especially the players party. And watch out for the community game which I think will be a few hours before the party. That is a good opportunity to meet people as well, especially before we head off to the party afterwards.Hopefully meet you in Copenhagen.
sgriff Posted March 24, 2017 Posted March 24, 2017 Sorry - just read your post re the lack of live games. Don't worry - the dealers will help you and some of the players on your table will be surprisingly helpful. In the absence of a live game, I'd suggest googling what to do in a live poker game and what not to do. That should help you. I mentioned string betting earlier. Google that as it's a common mistake. And btw, the easiest way to avoid that problem, whether you are a beginner or experienced, is to simply tell the dealer how much you wish to raise to before you move your chips. Good luck mate.
Yaro85 Posted March 25, 2017 Author Posted March 25, 2017 thanks a lot @sgriff by you I learned what is string bet. Your help is invaluable Drinks and party sounds good for me. It's too bad that Copenhagen is very expensive city and my budget is limited Good luck in Copenhagen. I hope to meet you too
NeriPoker Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 If you don't have a casino to get some practice then maybe set up a weekly home game with friends. It's not exactly the same environment but it will get you familiar with little things like touching cards, chips, betting, folding etc.Aside from the poker though, make sure you have fun and enjoy every minute!
Yaro85 Posted March 29, 2017 Author Posted March 29, 2017 Thanks for the advice @NeriPoker I played a few games with my friends. I still have to practice
