  1. So as you can see, it didn't go well. In fact I think this is actually the first time I've reported a minus figure on the yearly stats in this entire blog. I'm no stranger to losing at everything, though! I am looking forward to some of the winter series tournaments and hopefully I have a few deep runs to turn this around.

Were it not for an absolutely shocking turn call from villain and river 'F*** YOU' from Unibet in the money of the Omaha Deep Space last night things could of looked very different. Such is poker. Let's go.

  2. Not a bad start to the year. Not got much bankroll but it's a building process to begin with for the 87th time. Haven't played particularly well. Feeling a bit rusty but it's gone ok. Apologies to anyone I've donked so far.

  3. Excitedly I might play some poker tomorrow! But where did it all go right and wrong last year when I did have time to play?

Well, my highest ROI across a very modest sample size was €1 freezeouts. 232.67% ROI.

Bigger ROI's came in €10 and €25 games at both holdem and PLO but I didn't play enough games of them for it to be worth measuring.

My most pleasing one was €10 NLH rebuys which had a 152.06% ROI largely due to some deep finishes in the early years UOS.

Most final tables came at €2 NLH level but for whatever reason I wasn't able to close enough of them out to give an ROI of above 54.74%

Onto where it went wrong and unsurprisingly it's Hexapro and Cash. i was a loser at €1 and €2 hexa and a slight winner at €5.

I was a loser at all small stakes cash both NLH and PLO with small profit in mid stake PLO.

The tournament I did measurably worst at were €5 rebuys which is weird considering the success in €10 rebuys. Nut like I say the overall sample size is far too small to draw any valid conclusions and hopefully this year I will be able to create a much bigger sample size and kick some of the bad habit games to the curb.

  4. Back in the end to wish everyone a happy new year. In terms of poker the year definitely didn't go as I'd have liked. I hardly played towards the end and you can see I haven't been here since August despite saying I would grind. So no resolutions or such - just to promise myself I will only continue playing if it is still fun.

The plan is to come back in January and hit the ground running. I want to grind. I want to participate in Unibet's biggest events and I want to compete in the community. So hopefully life allows me to do that.

The final profit/loss for the year isn't bad all things considered. I'll be back in a few days with a bit of analysis as to what I did well in and what I did terribly in.

For now - have a good time, stay safe and stay lucky.

  5. I have been on holiday quite a lot recently so haven't had much time to play which has meant switching to hexapro quite a lot. Much to my frustration and a steady decline in profit. Not too much damage done though and i'm back to grind properly now!

  7. Played  about 150 games in the last week or so but profit has been pretty stagnant. Nothing special happening and haven't managed to get into any of the main events yet mainly due to the times I'm playing and the sats available to me.

    We continue to grind!

  9. @GR1ZZL3R No I still haven't got the book! I really should pick it up but it gives me confidence if Dara is preaching the same sort of thing as me haha

Congrats mate! I'm hopefully going to be back here more full time by the end of the month. I have bankroll in waiting just sorting a couple things with the house. Might even stream a bit.

  10. Thanks for the responses @FreedoM @GR1ZZL3R It may surprise you but I actually took the fold approach here. The way I see it is the old 'you can't win a tournament in the first hour but you can lose it' line. Coupled with the fact I didn't even cover them to take their bounty I felt it largely pointless trying to play a difficult hand in a difficult position. With the size of my stack there would be much easier positions against profitable small short stacks to come.

This would be different if it were a nano or low GTD tournament I would gamble and jump in the next one but this was UOS so I applied more 'A' game thinking. I don't tend to get caught up in hand strengths too much at specific stages of a tournament and look more for the situations which favor me, regardless of what I'm holding.

Fixed 🙂  had same tournament twice instead of both from yesterday.

We still have community players with a wrong alias every week, and often players in top 5. One player would even be in top 3 on a leaderboard, if they remembered to play with the right alias 🙂

Pftttttt. If you were going to kick me out of the top 5 on any of them you could of at least made it the low!

  12. I am lacking in my posts just like I'm now lacking in the leaderboards. Let's do some hand analysis. We don't do a lot of that here and I don't know why because I need all the help I can get.

It's a 5e PKO. Early on. BB is 80. You got 10k and find JJ.

UTG raises to 260. Next position pumps it up to 740. You are next.

    What do you do?

As it's relevant to the game type you don't cover either of the raisers. And it's full ring.

  13. Not much action over the last week but managed to increase the profit nonetheless. A good few final tables in community games including a win in the 5e PLO has put my top of that leaderboard for now. Have a good weekend all.

  15. Forgot to an update after the mini grind... doh!

I came second in a tournament!

But it wasn't the Big Bang.

It also wasn't the Dwarf Star.

It was a 1e PLO event.... DOH!!!

Just a couple KO's in the Dwarf Star meant it was a pretty disappointing grind. So tonight we will be going for the UO ticket by winning the two community games 😜

  16. I won a 200e ticket last week so tomorrow I'm going to have a mini grind! It will actually be my debut in the Big Bang so hopefully I have some home improvement money by the time it's over.

Will play that, the Dwarf Star and a few other smaller events.

  17. As you will have been expecting I've took a week off from poker to recover from that grind! Potentially I might play some games tonight but I have been busy setting up a new YouTube channel for family adventures and gaming. See my Twitter @Metalwolfpoker if you want to support me on that.

I also used some of the profit from the series to buy a new PC so I may start streaming some poker on Twitch when I get that all set up if anyone was interested in that.

Other than have a great Easter all and I'll do another update soon!
