Brutal river for Israel41311402235_19e5af1a5c_o.thumb.jpg.89f18abbccdb0dff2dd7a43d0968dec3.jpg

We have lost French player Jenny Israel here in Malta after a brutal river quashed her hopes of winning the main event.

Erik Nordahl raised to 18,000 utg, to which Jenny 3-bet to around 50,000. Erik called and we went to the flop:

9:Clubs: 7:Clubs: 2:Hearts:

Strangely, Nordahl led this flop for around 45,000, which Israel called.

Turn: 9:Spades:

Nordahl now shoves for around 200,000, and Jenny tanks for around two and half minutes before eventually making the call and their hands are shown:

Nordahl: T:Diamonds: T:Clubs:     Israel: Q:Diamonds: Q:Clubs:

Jenny was in great shape to get a double up and cripple Nordahl, but the dealer had other ideas. The river was the T:Hearts: making the board:

9:Clubs: 7:Clubs: 2:Hearts: 9:Spades: T:Hearts:   and Israel was gone, as Nordahl just covered her.

Extremely unlucky river for Jenny who finishes in 23rd place, and a very fortunate one for Erik, who now has over 500,000.

We have also just lost Aussie Millions winner Jack Sinclair in 22nd place, and both he and Jenny make the next pay jump up to €2,690 for their efforts.

21 players remain.

Final two tables

We are down to 16 players here in Malta, after losing Erik Nordahl and Unibet ambassador Fredrik Bergmann.

Nordahl reshoved around 180,000 with A♣️ 6♣️ at bb10,000 against a CO open and got called by 5♦️ 5♥️

A board of 7♠️ Q♣️ 4♣️ 9♥️ 2♦️ marked the end for Nordahl in 18th place and he goes home with €3,010.

Fredrik Bergmann on the other hand was extremely short and got his last 7bbs in when it folded to him on the button, only for Henri Piironen to call in the big blind.

Fredrik Bergmann: K♥️ 3♠️

Henri Piironen: A♦️ 3♦️

A board of A♥️ T♠️ 7♥️ T♦️ 3♣️ saw Fredrik finish in 17th place which earned him a slight pay increase up to €3,380 for his efforts. GG Bergie!

Final table bubble!

We are down to the last 10 players here at Unibet Open Malta, after losing Scottish player Jamie Munro and Dutch player Luigi Knoppers in quick succession.

Jamie lost a flip with 9x 9x against the Ax Jx of Henri Piironen, after dodging everything until the jack of hearts on the river.

And Luigi was crippled down to 3bbs after losing with 5x 5x against the 9x 9x of Daniel Jacobsen, and lost the next hand when he shoved in his remaining stack.

The players will be hoping to make the final table for a shot at becoming Unibet Open champion and a shot at the €60,090 up top. Reaching the FT will ensure €5,750 at the very minimum.

We will continue play until the end of level 20 or when we reach the final nine players for the final table - whichever comes first.
