I haven't checked my spam folder for probably 3 or 4 years, virtually never having a reason to do so, but this morning something prompted me to take a look.

I never click on unsolicited e-mails or texts, usually reading the header and the first line is enough to get the drift of what to expect.

My McAfee security (which I've never had) expired TODAY on April 11. It also expired TODAY on the 12th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd, 25th, 27th, and on May 6th and 8th. On the later dates there were extra warnings that 23 viruses had infected my PC and urgent renewal was recommended. Isn't it good of them to continue monitoring your computer even after your subscription has expired, just so they can nudge you into renewing? Meanwhile Norton Security (which I do have) also expired on April 25th (it didn't) but on the 2nd May Norton Affiliate Partner (who they?) advised me that 13 viruses had been detected, again terriffic service monitoring my computer when I'm no longer subscribed. There are also one or two from Anti Virus Partner and  MYCleanPC urging me to get their software, plus a few general security alerts suggesting I install a monitored alarm, outside cameras and solar floodlighting, you can never be overprotected.

There are the usual entreaties urging me to learn how to invest in shares and bitcoin, quite a few on personal health, botox, blood pressure, protecting your teeth (too late) etc, and some notifying me of prizes or rewards I have missed. It's always seemed strange to me how these super large companies can send normal e-mails to your inbox but when they want to reward you or inform you of a prize you've won or a delivery you've missed, the information goes to your spam folder. It's almost as though they don't want you to claim your winnings, one way of keeping overheads down I suppose!

Then , as always, sex rears it's ugly head.

"Larger and stronger."

"Male enhancement."

"Phalogenics."

"Squirting school"

"Sex secrets."

"We teach sex."

"Sex."

"More sex."

Those last four are in the exact order they appeared, a sort of build up of anticipation then stop messing about and get on with it. Vaguely reminds me of something I suppose.

As far as I can remember, the last time I checked my spam folder it was mainly about joining casinos, investing and many other wonderful money making opportunities. Now it all seems to be about security, protection and sex. Puts a new slant on the meaning of Safe Sex I suppose.

  • 6 months later...

I've been back to the spam folder for the first time in a while. the emphasis seems to have shifted from sex to security.

"Someone has attempted to log into your Facebook account"      Good luck to them I don't have, and never have had, and never will have, a Facebook account. 😝

"Due to multiple breaches your twitter account has been suspended. In order to... "    My non existent Twitter account has been suspended. I'm devastated. 😖

"You are about to delete all your existing photos... "       I'll admit some of them need deleting but not all at once.  😂

Not spam now but shifting to text messages. My Apple Pay account, the one I don't have, 😂 has been suspended due to suspicious activity. Also from text a website to log into to claim rebates for all the increases in fuel bills, despite all the rebates being done automatically. 🤔
