Ametrine Posted September 3, 2016 Author Share Posted September 3, 2016 We don't really celebrate Halloween in this country (but I think it's getting more popular each year, since there are many Halloween parties and costumes for sale around that time), and I have not had any knocks yet on that night, but we traditionally have 2 different days in November where children have homemade costumes on and they come in groups, knock on peoples doors and sing and have riddles for the family. It is a very old tradition and the goal of this was to bring good luck for the family, cattle, crops etc. If the family did not let them in, they would "curse" you with a song, but if you let them in and gave them food, they would throw peas/beans/crop grain on the floor for good luck and sing "blessing" songs. One day was meant only for boys to dress up and the other only for girls. This tradition has kind of dwindled, but there still are some children who do it, so it's better to keep some apples and candy ready for them in case they knock and start singing behind the door 😃How many pairs of sunglasses do you own?
