  1. @ReCorpH Sounds good, mate. I’ve been following the new legislature as well: the only new regulation I know of is a monthly 1.000 Euro max limit on deposits for gambling in Germany, starting in October 2020.

I’ve extensively tried figuring out what the new restrictions on political bets might be, but haven’t found a single article, thread, forum post or the like.

Would be very interesting to see what the reasoning behind all this is!

  2. @eldrfuming Unfortunately, the live support couldn’t or wouldn’t tell me which law their removal of bets on politics was based on. I’m in the same situation as you: the only reason I made a Unibet account was to bet on the 2020 election.

You’re lucky: I didn’t even get to finish my betting. While I was transferring a large amount of money from my bank account (waiting period of two days), the bets on politics went offline. Now I have lots of money on my account that I can’t even bet with.

And THEN Unibet locked my account… AFTER I verified myself successfully. I have no idea what’s going on. I’m not even allowed to look at the bets I’ve already placed, I just get an error message.

I’ve since spoken to the support again via e-mail. I asked a second time whether the bets already placed would be honored, and they said yes. That’s all I know at this point.

  3. Many thanks for your reply! I hadn’t noticed that bets on politics were still up on the international site. I contacted the live support again and described the problem. It went something like this (translated from German):

support: We don’t offer bets on politics anymore.
Yoyogi: Oh, not at all? Even in future?
    Support: Yes, exactly.
Yoyogi: I’ve loaded X amount of money onto my account to bet on politics, but now I can’t do that. Can I get my money back?
Support: Yes, as long as you can supply your ID and a bank statement, it’s no problem.
Yoyogi: I understand… I’ve already bet X amount of money on politics a few days ago. Will my bet be honored?
Support: I’ve been told it will be honored… although I don’t believe it myself.
Yoyogi: Can you tell me why politics won’t be offered anymore? I’ve noticed that all your competitors have also removed their bets on politics.
Support: Because of the new laws.
Yoyogi: Alright, thanks for your help!

Well, I guess betting on politics is over in Germany. What a shame…

  4. Hello Unibet Community,

It seems like the politics betting section has been unavailable for close to 24 hours now. From what I recall, it first went offline at around 12:00 on the 29.10.2020. See this link, which doesn’t return any results:

    https://www.unibet.de/betting/sports/filter/politics

Considering the US elections are one of the biggest events of the year, it seems strange the bet has been pulled.

I’ve contacted the live chat, and they didn’t know what was going on either. They told me:

„It’s possible we can’t host this bet anymore due to new regulations”. (Translated from German)

Which new regulations? Betting went fine just two days ago. It isn’t just the US elections bets that have gone offline, but all bets on politics. Can anybody weigh in on whether the bets on politics will be up again before the election on the 4th of November?

    Thanks!
