Unibet to host biggest ever online event in May

The Unibet Open poker tour has announced that, in response to increasing concerns about Coronavirus and associated restrictions on travel, the forthcoming Unibet Open Tallinn in May will now be held online.

Players have welcomed Unibet’s decision not to postpone the event or cancel it altogether and said the decision to move it online would enable hundreds of players to take part regardless of any travel difficulties or lockdowns.

Unibet Ambassador David Lappin said: “Coronavirus is having an adverse effect on so many scheduled events worldwide, but we’re really delighted that Unibet Open will still effectively be going ahead, but online instead of “IRL”. It means everyone can take part, even if they are in a country where travel is tricky. We’re still “all in” for this online event and I’ll be giving my best shot at winning a first title!”

The live version of Unibet Open was scheduled to take place May 20-24. The event will now be held online on Unibet Poker from May 24 -25 and comes with an impressive €100,000 guarantee. All players who have already qualified are eligible to play the online stop or can push their qualification to a later 2020 Unibet Open if they wish. For players who have won a €2,000 package will receive the remaining value paid out in bonus points. The €1,100 buy-in, €250 cash paid and an additional €650 paid in bonus points that players can use to buy online tickets.

Satellites for Unibet Open Online are running now with numerous chances to qualify. With daily satellites, and qualifiers from all levels – players can start to qualify from as low as cents.
There will be daily satellites where players can qualify for the €6,600 GTD Sunday Final, or buy-in for €250. The Sunday qualifier will take place at 8pm CET.

Unibet Ambassador Dara O’Kearney added: “Obviously it’s disappointing that we won’t get to visit Tallinn in person but player health and safety is paramount and at least we’re still going to have a cracking tournament to compete in. This will actually be the largest buy-in online tournament that Unibet has ever hosted so there’s a lot to get excited about – especially the €100,000 guarantee!”

In addition to the Unibet Open Online Main Event, which features a €1,000 + €100 buy-in, the €100 + €10 Mini ME will also be taking place. This new event mirrors the Main Event with all players receiving a generous 30,000 starting stack. Full details for the online schedule and structures will be released shortly.

Unibet prides itself on being part of Kindred Group, an all-digital company working solely on digital platforms, showing that they can operate business as usual due to their digital core. Allowing something as big as The Unibet Open to still go ahead in these corona-times.

Nataly Sopacuaperu, Unibet’s Head of Events, said: “We’ve taken a bold step in deciding to host Unibet Open online and we are expecting a huge number of players to take part. With concerns about Coronavirus hampering travel for so many people, we wanted to do something really positive for players and make sure as many can participate in the event as possible. There will still be trophies for the winners of the Main Event and Mini ME and we’ll be creating a lot of fun around the event including building up excitement on the live stream. We also hope a lot of Estonian players will join us for the event – and even take it down on “home soil”.

Wow! The Unibet Open on my own sofa in my own worn pyjama with pizza and beverages. Great idea!)  Now I've got another motivation to go through satellites again. 😀

Btw... in this particular tournament would be great to implement video tables like 888poker did. hm? Just to make sure I'm playing with Ian Simpson for example, but not with his cat))

@Stubbe-Unibet that's awesome!

I have two more questions then:

1. Is Unibet UK Tour Newcastle, schedules shortly after/28th-31st May, also going online?

2. Are you gonna start running UO Wednesdays Final now as 250€ freezouts again, 2tix GTD? I think it would be reasonable now with growing fields due to the situation.

Best Regards 👍

1. Nothing offical on this one yet :)

2. @Leo-Unibet to confirm on this one. Think we might start running Wednesday finals (let's see how it goes tonight :) ), but it won't be €250 buyin.

@Falkir  exchanged your package to an online one and added the 65k BP :)

@Stubbe-Unibet thanks for the quick reply 👍

1. keep us updated then 🆗

2. understood you wanna run it as 50€ r/a as lately, but i guess 250€ would collect more entries directly now, and indirectly improve the 50€ steps' traffic 🆒

just an opinion thou, thanks for any consideration :peace:

@Stubbe-Unibet

Could the 1100EUR Unibet Open Tallinn ticket be used as seat only for later UOs? I currently have a trip to the states scheduled for UO Tallinn dates and therefore I am hesitant to play qualifiers. Of course the chances are my trip will be cancelled and UO Tallinn online will be just perfect.

PS: please add DSO online as well

PPS: please be aggressive in adding a lot more online tourneys to the daily schedule. Online poker is booming right now.

@Elukka12, no, if you win a buyin for the online UO, it's to be used for the online UO. If you win two and only use the one, you can get the 2nd exchanged to UO tickets or use it as a buyin for the next live UO.

As you've probably seen, we've added a daily 10k GTD tournament: https://www.unibetcommunity.com/t5/General-Poker/New-daily-10-000-GTD-tournament-added-to-the-schedule/m-p/316501#M46449 and GTD's of existing tournaments have been increased. We'll have more MTT news soon, just keep an eye on the community :)

@Stubbe-Unibet

Haven't reveived my bonus points from having switched the package into online ticket. Got the online ticket like 5 days ago and the email stated that I should receive the bonus points within 72 hour. Not in a hurry, if you guys are just busy with the extra traffic and get to sorting these out later.
