Hello, i won a Unibet Open package (Copenhagen, august 2016) through a Pocketfives promotion. Ive never played a major live tournament before. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for a first timer that you wished you knew the first time you were at an Unibet Open.

@pirahn Was very helpful when I met him at UO Malta.

The UO are great events, sure you will have a good time.

You can exchange UO tickets again all is unicorns and rainbows in Unibet land.

I've played a lot of Liveaments and my best advice is go to the tourney area the day before/or a few hours before play and walk around.  Find out where you need to register, where the washrooms are where you'll be sitting once u get your seat assignment.  Know how long of a walk it is back to your hotel room in case you feel the need to go back for some reason.  Thinking or worrying about any details besides the challenge in front of you takes away from your game.

Above all make sure you remember the excitement of the first hand dealt and the pain of the hand that busts you out.  If ever you get to the point where neither hand matters than you should pick up a new hobby.  Liveaments are a great way to meet new friends so don't discount the value of meeting new people from around the world.  I still have friends from nearly 10 years ago that I met at this type of event.

Best of luck to you and have a blast.

Congrats on your win. Always a great feeling when you win a package. How did you celebrate

The best advise i would give is dont be shy and ask as many questions as you want on forum or private message. There are no dumb questions. The players and unibet staff are a friendly bunch who are happy to help.

Have you played any live tournaments? If not i suggest playing one at a casino near you. Any small buy tournament will do. This will give you a feel for live play and give you some confidence.

There are 2 starting days. Plan your trip around which one you want to play. Playing Day 1a gives you a days break if you make it to day 2. Playing 1b means 3 straight days of play. Which ever suits you best.

The casino is usually located close to hotel and withing walking distance. Unibet staff will have a booth near reception lobby. They will be happy to give you any info you need. Check out the venue. You will need your id to join casino. On the day of play you will need to register and again you will need id.

Check out the time table for play. When and how often the breaks are. Meal break is usually around an hour. Make sure you know where the meal is served. Being prepared is essential to control nerves.

As to the actual playing. Get a feel for the table. This is a marathon, not a sprint. You have plenty of time to get into it. Table may be quiet or it may have noisy players. There maybe very little action or you get raises and reraises every hand. You never know what type of table you get but you have plenty of time to get used to it.

Finally, stay hydrated.Plenty of water. I would keep away from alcohol.

Im sure community players will qualify and you can arrange a meet up on here. Theres also welcome drinks and a party.

Any questions, dont hesitate to ask. Good luck and have fun
