Hi! I've won the UO Bucharest package with challenge points but I'm not sure YET If I can make it to the tournament due to family reasons!

Can you tell me some date when I should know for sure If I'm coming to the event? Is there a deadline for filling the online registration form?

Thank you very much!

Hey! My situation has become more clear: I unfortunately can't make it to UO Bucharest. Can you change my package to bonus points and is it ok if I ask it here in this thread or should I make a new one?

I also don't mind if you reply to my original question (deadline about the registering) here in this thread because that might interest some others!

Thank you!

That's a really good point - I hadn't considered qualifying live and realistically could be there a few days early as I'm off work that week.  I have looked in to it but unfortunately whilst I can buy another cheap flight going there, it would mean I'd lose the expensive return leg so it won't be that cost effective.  I'll bear it in mind for the future though.  My only query about buying in direct over there (if I don't qualify) - will there be places left or would I be risking it being a sell out?

@MarcoV It would be advisable to have seat only finals both for the open and uk tours when close to event and in some venues throughout the qualification process.

Also @sgriff should be able to buy in direct online and if he qualifies through a live sat get his online refunded. Its a no lose for unibet as getting more action/rake however @sgriff could end up divorced as he can end up spending 5k chasing a cheaper 1k seat.

From what I've heard the poker venue will be bigger this year so less chance of it selling out. And you could register for day 1B or 1A during the day before I assume, skipping both the registration queues and having a secured place in the tournament. As for buying in online and then playing live satties, maybe e-mail unibet open about it and see what they say about it. Should be a good option for some people but every tournament has a different policy about this.

Thanks for the advice everyone.   I think with the flights already booked Jonny it is too expensive an option to go early at this stage.

Re contacting Open support NMPFAN - I'm still waiting for them on my query over whether I can switch from day 1a to day 1b if my flight is delayed, but have heard absolutely nothing.  A bit frustrating when I'm willing to spend the cash attending but no-one bothers replying.  It's not the first time I've had problems there either if I'm honest. Anyway, enough with the moaning.  Having bubbled a package twice in 2 weeks (awaiting confirmation of that but pretty sure I ended up runner-up in the league yesterday), I'll try the traditional route tonight and hopefully get in that way.

Well done to @BroederTuck for winning the league yesterday.

I missed out on the satellite so am aiming to play the live satellite Thursday evening.  I've e-mailed Unibet regarding whether I can register online and get a refund if I win the satellite but am not convinced I will get a reply in time. They did reply regarding moving the day 1a to day 1b, but that took 2 weeks and the deadline is this Sunday so if there are Unibet people reading this post who know if it is allowed I'd be grateful for an update either way.

Thanks 😃

@sgriff I'm afraid that a refund or move of package to another event won't be possible in case of live satellite win. The UO online qualifiers prizes are whole packages both including ME buy in, hotel and travelling expenditures - as such, we always keep the elements of those packages confined within one tournament. So the problem here becomes, that when you go and play a live satellite the day before the tournament start, then you're already in the process of using the package. The second part of that is, that the live satellites are organized by the casino/event provider, meaning they're completely excluded from the Unibet qualifying system.

I understand your comment, but I would be looking to only buy a seat, especially as I've booked a hotel elsewhere already, so this should be simple.to accommodate.  I know that the live satellite is separate from the unibet system, but I don't understand why flexibility can not be shown and the seat purchased online either be refunded or moved to a future event.  Surely with the amount of people Unibet are bringing to the casino there must be some influence that Unibet can use to withdraw me from the online purchase?

To avoid this situation, I'm being asked to pay for the event on the day if I don't qualify through the live satellite. There are several problems with this:

  1. I will need to bring an extra 1100 euros worth of local currency in case I need it
  2. If I qualify, I will have to exchange the local currency back as it is not needed.  I was today quoted a buying rate of 4.8145 and a selling rate of 5.5491.  So 1100 euros buys 5296 lei.  Converting that back at the 5.5491, I will receive 954 euros.  That is a loss of 146 euros.
  3. There is no guarantee that I will even get a seat if I try to buy in on the day.  If it sells out, then I will have taken time off work, spent money on flights and a hotel for nothing.

If I knew about this situation then I would not have bothered going to the event, but obviously I am committed now I've bought the flights and hotel.  However, if flexibility cannot be shown, then this is likely to be the last Unibet Open I take part in as this experience, along with other issues with my package registrations that I've experienced previously, is making this more hassle than it's worth, which is a shame given that I've played 4 of these events in the last 1.5 years and was looking to play more.

Unibet pride themselves on how they treat the players.  Can any flexibility be shown here to back this claim up?

@sgriff All buy-ins for tournaments and cashgames during UO Bucharest as well as prize cashouts will be done only in EURO so no need to convert any of the poker money to local currency. But yeah you still need euros but at least they're useful in other places too.

As for the event being sold out they have confirmed they increased the space this year and added 15 cash tables as well in addition to the tournament area:

  • 1€/2€
  • 2€/5€
  • 5€/10€
  • 10€/20€
  • 25€/50€

That being said the option to buy-in though the client would be useful if it had more flexibility, and the response you  got was most likely due to a misunderstanding of what you were asking for.

LE: Also for more information about the event itself, nothing unibet related, you could also contact the romanian event organizers on facebook or via e-mail, they were quite helpful to me for some of their previous events https://www.facebook.com/PokerfestClub/

Just to say - if the buy-in on the day is in euros (can someone clarify please), I've still got the issue of 1100 excess euros having to be converted back into sterling. (I quoted a conversion from euros earlier trying not to complicate things), but the principle is the same - if you buy currency and convert it back then the bank/travel agent will make a nice profit on the currency exchange rate differences between buying and selling.  Buying a seat through the poker client should keep things simple, although it is not proving to be the case.

@Thanks @FeelsBadMan - I must have been writing my follow up whilst you were posting.  It doesn't appear to be a misunderstanding as I have also received an e-mail from the UO Team stating the same (see below) just before Jeppe replied.  I've asked for this to be referred to David P or similar as this inflexibility just feels wrong.  Rather than looking forward to Bucharest, I'm sat here wishing I hadn't bothered if I am honest with you.

No we are not able to refund you once you have bought a seat through the poker client.

Our best advice is for you to play the satellite for the main event, if you don’t qualify you can then buy-in directly on either day 1A or 1B.

@sgriff contact the casino directly. Im not sure unibet understand your request. If you can speak to a tournament director im sure they will point you in the right direction as there is no loss in your request, on the contrary there is a financial gain for someone.

I managed to luckbox a sat seat in vegas to the ME (brag), if i could have that  returned as cash then this is a no brainer.

@JeppeL Unibet run seat only for romanaian players, why cant this be opened up. As long as this is a non transferable seat then there is no downside . Its easier and cheaper to go to bucharest than brighton. Its also a great marketing tool for this weekend as a last chance tourny.

@sgriff Pirahn maybe right, it's possible I've misunderstood your request or messed up understanding the initial info. To help me out, please clarify how you got the package? Did you buy it through the client or was it somehow won through qualification or promotion? Please just spell it out for me, because if I misunderstood something, it must've been the initial request..

@pirahn That's a very good point, I'm not sure of the specifics of the setup and why it would be closed for RO players, but let's make a list with sensible feedback for the UO team on how the setup can be improved and how we can create a better alround experience.

The question seems to be that if @sgriff buys in direct for the UO on the client prior to the event and then goes and wins a live sat in Bucharest can he get the client direct buyin refunded.

If it's a no, can the direct buyin be moved to a later UO would probably be the next question.

Edit: This issue being that without the option for a refund sgriff is forced to take €1100 cash with him in case he doesn't win the sat so he can direct buyin at the venue. With exchange rates and currancy buy back this then costs him more money if he does win the Sat and just needs to convert the euros back when back in the UK.

Have you read my blog HERE... It's long isn't it :)

@MoreTBCyou summarised it perfectly. Thank you.

Edit: just to mention the extra concern that if I try to register on the day there is no guarantee it wouldn't have sold out. I don't wish to travel all that way to potentially sit on a waiting list.

Also, I contacted the casino as suggested and they have said that if I win the satellite having already registered for a seat through the Unibet poker client, then they would allow me to have €1100 of credit for their side events.  Clearly that would not be possible to use in the limited time period,, especially as I would already be playing the main event.

My concern now is that the deadline for registration is this weekend and I am away from 9am Saturday which leaves just today for me to register and this remains unresolved.

Cheers! I know for sure now I read the initial request wrongly in our back office by including the information of OP(that the package was won via challenge points). I'll see if we can't meet this request somehow.

Edit by Jeppe-Unibet: No need for the UO response, was in touch with them just now.
