Big blind antes on UK tour

I have seen a post that suggests the UK tour this year will feature a BB ante format rather than the traditional ante format. Is this true? Did they do this in Sinaia?

Having not played this format before it’s tough for me to comment but i am aware of the fierce  comments from players on opposite sides of the fence as to wether it is better or not and ‘what gets posted first’.

Interesting if Unibet has gone down this path and if recs will adapt to it as the tournament gets deeper.

Yeah in Sinaia we had BB ante in the main and everything else, haven't really seen anyone be confused or anything, the dealers knew what they were doing (as opposed to another tour I was at recently where a few didn't even know what a BB ante was  ) and the players either already knew about it or understod how it works really fast.

Last year at UO Dublin main the players at the start we're kinda like wtf, why are we still playing with normal antes, everything else is BB ante, even the side events.

Pretty sure people will adapt pretty fast and in some locations they're already used to it, as a rule it's really simple, it just has some small strategical implications with super short stacks, and you can slightly widen your ranges shorthanded than they would normally be. That's about it.

Personally I hope the UK Tour will make this switch too, if they haven't already.

The Casino that has hosted the Brighton events recently switched to a Button Ante format for all tournaments.

I did ask them at the time if that would include any future UNIBET events.

They said that would be a decision for Unibet.

The only real confusion that I have seen withe the button Ante is:

1) When there is a dead button - everyone posts a traditional Ante

2) If the button does not have 2 BBs in their stack - everyone posts a traditiopnal ante.

3) When there are 3 (or is it 4) players left the button ante reduces to the amount of the small blind

Are there are complicating factors to the Big Blind Ante ?

e.g.

1) What happens if the BB does not have 1 BB or has less than 2 BBs ?

2) What happens HU or when only 3 /4 players left.

The rules kinda depend on the organizer and it usually shouldn't matter much to the player, it's the dealer's responsibility to know and tell the players do this in this situation.

The general rules for BB ante at unibet events, from what I've seen are:

- if you have 1BB in the BB  you will post your BB first and there will be no ante that hand, so the BB can triple-quadruple-octuple up just like in a normal tournament

- I think the last 3/4 players rule the ante is half a BB for unibet events as well. Some events aldo do the half a BB rule if during the tournament your table has 5 players or less, but that generally is not the rule at unibet events, and only happens by mistake due to dealers not knowing which rule is used for the current event, they should get better briefings beforehand.

I was a little sceptical initially but having played a tournament recently with this structure I am firmly on the 'for' side.  It made the game quicker and simpler (no changing chips every hand for mutiple players to cover the ante) and also made the calculation of the pot size more straightforward. The first half of the first level with the big blind ante played a bit differently as the Big Blinds were defending a bit more lightly, but after that play settled down.
