Unibet UK tour and how to get good enough!

Okay, first question, was reading up about qualifying yesterday, and if I understand it rightly you don't get to choose which event you can go to? Just the first after you qualify?

So, I want to go to the Mcr event in December, meaning I don't want to qualify until after the Glasgow one in Oct.

That gives me 4 months to improve my game enough, any tips?

I've been reading quite a bit, but somehow it's hard to translate that into actual play.
I know i'll have to step up a level and play more bigger buyins than I usually do.

Any other suggestions for rapid improvement?

You can qualify know and move seat to  a later event.

Because the sats are really fast games, the skill level gap between levels isnt that great.

The only level I struggled with is the final.

I wouldn't worry too much about playing higher buy-ins, playing the lowest MTTs allows you to play with the biggest fields and lets you focus on playing a solid game.

You can always split the tickets when you get to the higher levels so you can have a few more shots as well. Seems to work well for a lot of people.

Have you read my blog HERE... It's long isn't it :)

Just to confirm what Jonny said, if you qualify for Glasgow you will be able to move it to Manchester - I'm in the process of updating the site page to reflect a few changes like this, and it should be done later this week.

In terms of tips, I would read up as much as possible on satellite/qualifier strategy. Obviously you don't need to win the whole thing, just finish high enough to earn a ticket for the next level. If (when!) you qualify for the live event, just don't be daunted by the buyin, they're very friendly events and the general standard isn't perhaps what most people would expect when they play a tournament like that for the first time. Good luck, hopefully see you at one of the remaining events this year :)

As   Said splitting tickets works well really helps me with confidence as I know its not my one and only shot

I agree with  the events are very friendly, David normally says hello when you are there and is always around to answer any questions.

The blinds go up at a reasonable rate, so you have plenty of time to get a feel for the game.

If you join the twitch streams you will be able to pick up a free ticket or two to get you started, I know a couple of people who have won seats by building up from the free tickets, one person in Nottingham got a free ticket from a UO stream and won a seat and it was his first ever live game.

Good luck and hope to see you in Manchester.

Hi Jillianp,

You raise some interesting points. I'll try and explain how Unibet works and also compare it to other sites.

The great thing at Unibet is its flexibilty and unlike other sites they dont go out of their way to screw over the players. Actually, the Unibet guys are really dumb for not advertsiing how good they are.

You can play right now and if you win a uk tour package request it to be transferred to a later event. At most other sites your locked in and lose your package if you dont play.

You can win multiple packages. Once you have qualified for manchester you can try and qualify for the next one straight away. At some other sites you get into really dubious territory with this. You win your package but you still have other tickets that cannot now be used as t&c says you can only win 1 package. Unless you know how to argue you will forfeit your tickets.Worse still there maybe more than one way to win a package. You may end up winning through two different promotions and have to give up one package.

Some of our european friends love the idea of coming to uk tour but its just too costly. If they win more than one package, Unibet will allow for the seond one to be converted for cash towards the expenses so they have the opportunity to play as well. This also applies to uk players now as places like brighton can very expensive and players travelling longer distances would have the same expenses worries.I can think of no other site who does this for their players.

As for tips: Play in your comfort zone. You tube videos for tutorials and freerolls aplenty to get some real game time experience. Start at the bottom with €1 entry tournaments and work your way up. Now whats fantastic at Unibet is when you win the €4 ticket, you can exchange it to 4 x €1 tickets. This will give you more game time to learn how to play poker. When you have the confidence, play higher value tickets and you can repeat the process at every different level.

The last point about ticket conversion is very important. Compare that to other sites. Play it or lose it.Most other sites may extend the expiry but with great fuss and certainly wont allow you to exchange to other tickets.

Good luck on your poker journey

Thanks guys, wasn't expecting such informative responses :smileyvery-happy:

Kind of surprised at you recommending freerolls, I feel like I only began to learn to play poker rather than lucky allin when I moved on to paying for games!

Anyway, cheers, and look forward to meeting a few folk in December :smileywink:

Your right about freerolls but it depends on your budget. We dont want you losing your monthly shoe budget.Unfortunately that old addage "you have to pay to learn" is so true.

I once gave similar advise to a new customer in a casino. Talked about money management for about 5 mins before someone pointed out he was probably good with money as he could buy the casino....a long pause before adding .....with his spare change.

This is me playing in my biggest game ever in the last UO.
The Unibet staff were brilliant and very supportive.

Before this the UK games were my biggest games and the more I go to the more players I meet and the more it becomes a weekend to meet friends with a chance to take home more money than you came with.

It's a solid advice to chop up tickets! I have played a few satellite finals now and finally yesterday I won a UK tour package!

Last time I played the UK tour finals with the one ticket I had, the pressure was way bigger than this time, when I had a "backup" ticket in case I didn't make it.

I have never played a live tournament before,  only been playing small live cash games. Looking forward for the experience!
