Poker vs. Luck

After long time playing poker, seem to me that luck has nothing to do with win/lose subjects. How you start the hand and how u act its your luck in poker,if anyone think that oh my good such a bad flopp, think again...just some advice from moi.

any game you dont play against the house , luck is involved in a very short term . but still poker is a part of gambling area and for some people could be another way to gamble same as casino and for others to dont be a gambling part where skill is more involved in the game.

you might say that luck is for the people who gamble without having any idea of what poker is and it is not for people who are playing for living

Poker is almost only skill :)

But of course you need some luck with the cards on the table too :)

You can have the best hand ever and still lose, even if you would get a nice hit on the flop, someone might have a better one :)

So, I tiny bit of luck doesn't hurt ;)

This is not really a mysterious question :)

There is a lot of variance in poker and you don't have to be a good player at all in order to be able to win big during a short time span if variance is on your side, in part because big pots (single events) matter so much proportionally speaking. 

It's equally obvious and clear that poker is a game of skill; however in order to predict that a skillful player will post better results than a mediocre player with stringent certainty conditions (for instance 95%), you need a very big sample size. I'm sure these numbers have been found given some assumptions, though I don't have them available.

Obviously it depends on the game fomat as well.

There is undoubtedly a luck element to poker, however one of the reasons it's such a popular game is that the luck portion can be controlled. 

What time do you play?

Which stake?

Are you tired/hungry/not sober?

What kind of style? Tight aggressive? Loose aggressive? Loose passive?

Tournaments, sit n gos, or cash games? 

 

The answers to all of the questions above and many, many more all play a part in how much of the "luck" element you are exposed to during play. You can't control luck in its simplest form, but you can control how much you expose yourself to it, and subsequently control how big your financial swings will be.
