PLO8 (hi/low)

It's definitely something we're interested in.  Although the poker site is double the size it was two years ago, PLO has grown faster than NLHE, so it seems like PLO8 should work well too.

The first problem is that we risk losing some PLO players to the new game, and perhaps PLO is too small to do that safely.  The second problem is that it requires fairly fundamental changes to our game engine, as we don't have the rules in place for high/low games.  That means it'd take a lot of development time, and the queue is pretty busy at the moment.

I'd bet that we'll have it one day, but I don't think it's doable in the next six months.

Pros:

New game = new players will search out the site.

Existing players might try it out (and find it fun enough to keep playing).

PLO8 is a split pot game = more rake and more money distrubuted between players = the site earns more and more players have money to keep on generating rake.

Cons:

Requires software/programming changes. Although, (without any knowledge of programming) it's a common game with few extra rules compared to PLO. It's not like I'm asking for Open Face Chinese Pineapple Fantasyland Crosswords Puzzles ;)

Might deplete PLO player pool; seemingly unlikely though as 1) PLO is vastly more popular, 2) similar game; if people much preferred PLO8 that ransistion would already have been made.

PLO8 or even NLO8 MTTs would be great addition. I don't know how much cash games take rake from them effectively, as split pots are more like norm. Lower rake would keep games alive as it's really much more raked effectively than PLO or Hold'em.

Hm, I thought I'd already posted on this one somewhere, not sure where that went.

The reason we don't have it is that we'd split some liquidity away from PLO, and that may mean some games don't run much any more.  Then on top of that, we'd need to spend the development time to build it.  Anything that touches basic game engine elements like this (we don't have any split pot games at the moment) is hard to build, and thus slow.

At the moment it's better that we spend that time on a hand replayer and rebuys, for example.

To be perfectly honest it's only the good players that care about e.g. auto top-up and other 'let the game go smoother' features. Good players = less games.

IMO, keep the features as they are (which are decent enoguh) and focus on other things; e.g. making the sportbetting-app usable.

Poker is developed by a company called Relax.  They also make our bingo product and I believe a couple of casino games.  The sports betting app is another team for another company (I assume Unibet, but that's not my department, I'm head of poker).

I like PLO8 (hi/low) too, but if there is no chance to get this maybe you guys can give us some mixed NLH/PLO tourneys.

Good idea, maybe it'll be relatively easy to build.  I wouldn't say there's no chance of PLO8, just that it won't be in the next few months.
