How are flips calculated?

I've not really taken much notice before and don't usually watch them, I either win or lose and move on, but watching today's has got me puzzled. :wonder:

There are 20 tickets on offer and 40 players, so seemingly a 50/50 chance of winning a ticket.

I hit 2 pairs but lose to a straight, fair enough, but have a better hand than the other 7 on my table, then find I ended up in 35th place.

Obviously the winner on this table will get a ticket but how are the rest of the tickets distributed? I would have expected to be 33rd at worst, and with 2 pairs at least get into another round or be a lot higher in the finishing positions. Does anyone @JeppeL @RayL or members here know how these things are worked out?

PUZZLED. :wonder:

Could anyone answer my question please, @RayL @JeppeL @Patric-Unibet ?

There were 5 tables, 4 of 9 players and 1 of 4, obviously each winner at the table getting a ticket.

I'm just wondering how are the other 17 winning tickets distributed?

STILL PUZZLED. :wonder:

@GR1ZZL3R  I thinking about 'this' several times and each time convince myself that well-known random number generator should do this job! The fact is, that if you loose your flip hand with 3-high or straight-flush matter not as far as you lost your 'entire stack' ... am I too way wrong ? :geek:

@MadAdo

I'm just wondering if 2nd place on your table means nothing, as with 2 pairs I would have expected to be much higher than I was, even winning a ticket, but I'm guessing only the table winners actually get a ticket automatically and the rest are distributed randomly. If that is the case then it's not really fair imo, that's why I'm wondering!  Still puzzled. :wonder:

Hi @GR1ZZL3R ,

flips with low numbers of entries and more than 1 prize are tricky.

Let me try to explain: In your example hand, there is only one winner, that wins all the chips from the rest of the table, as long as nobody else wins any chips, it doesn't matter who has the worst hand or the second best hand, it only matters the winning hand and the rest are equal losing hands.

What happens then is that the position you finish is completely random, you could get lucky and still finish in the top 50% or you could not. It's basically a lottery and that's what a flip is supposed to be, it's out of your control.

Hope this makes things a bit more clear.

Thanks

That is as I suspected @Patric-Unibet so apart from winning the first table you are no longer in a flip tourney but just a random draw. To me that's not really a flip tourney,  the players on the table with only 4 already have much better odds to win a ticket. To begin with 40, surely 5 tables of 8 would be a better starting point. I know it's a random draw but not really ideal. If there were 37 starters would you have 4 tables of 9 and a single table with 1 which would be an automatic winner?
