Sunday 01/01/17 - New year, new.. ways to lose money

New Years day was a complete write off. Partied way too hard on the Eve and paid for it in the morning bit time. I hate hangovers so much and they just turn me into a moany blob of skin and bones. Can't think of a worse way to prepare mentally for some poker.

I played anyway because, well, it's me isnt it 🤣. Started off losing a €2 HU SnG but completing a mission step. Followed that by losing a buy in and a half at PLO4 thinking Moving on Up started on the 1st of Jan when it actually started on the 2nd. Not my finest moment for sure. Played the €5 SE last chance in a vain attempt to get in for cheap but could only manage 9th for a measly €1. After that I played the two evening €4 bounties and the turbo. Finished 2 away from the money in the turbo and only picked up a single bounty between the other two MTTs. At that point I had had enough and called it a day.

Profit for the day: -€21.81

Monday 02/01/17 - The last big festive session

Monday was my last real day to get any kind of volume in and to get the BR back on track. Started off getting the missions and 'Moving on Up' out of the way so I played a €1 SE qualifier, which I won for a change so at least I can freeroll the last chance on Sunday, and then lost a bit playing cash while trying to clear the daily requirements. Then can a string of bad beats/flip losses that looked something like this..

Step It Up (KK < Ax)
Daily Deepstack (AK < Something)
Bounty (AA < QQ runner runner flush)
Turbo (99 < A6 A on river)
Jackpot Holdem (QQ < AQ)
Jackpot Holdem (AK < 88)
Bounty Deepstack (QQ < AA)
Early Bounty (KK < KJ AIPF villain had 30+BB)

Out of all that I made 5 cents profit in the Early Bounty thanks to 3 KOs. Finished all the Butler leagues in the 20's so nothing there, ran AJ into AQ in the betting freeroll and had some usual nonsense in the Daily 4. The day was not going well.

I persevered though. Mincashed the €4 deepstack turbo and the late €4 bounty to pick up €9.50 back on the losses for the day.

The final MTT for the day was the Four for Midnight (or 11PM for me). I was watching a film as I always do so I wasn't fully paying attention until the final table. I was comfortably in 2nd with the chip leader being miles ahead. I could not hit a flop on the final table and nobody was folding at all. It was very frustrating but I knuckled down and eventually we were down to 4. At this point 2nd-4th had between 5 and 15 BB and the chip leader had 40+BB. This situation lasted for at least half an hour, although it felt like much longer. I had the big stack to my right so I was not getting any free cards and the other two players were playing so tight that it became really obvious when they had something. The big stack wen through phases of being the bully and times when he would not bet when the guy to his right had 3 BB in the big blind. It was a nightmare. Eventually the other two small stack locked horns and we were down to three players.

We played a few orbits and then I made my move. I think I had about 8BB and shoved Q9 from the button. Big stack called from the big blind with 64 and went runner runner for a straight. Out in 3rd for €30. It was so frustrating but ultimately was a day saver.

It was after midnight when it finished so I hoped back into the cash pool while the final table was happening to clear the Moving on Up and mission requirements. Lost a buy in at PLO and 75 cents at NLHE and headed to bed.

Profit for the day: -€4.86

Not really a post but I just wanted to put this here as it just happened.

Fired up a €2 HU SnG to complete a day on Part 3 of the January mission. First hand dealt AA in the big small blind. Villain calls does nothing, I shove. Silly I know but people love to gamble in these HU games and this was one of those people. Shows QTo.

Flop comes QT8. Cue me smashing the print screen button in a "❤️♥️❤️ typical" style rant when it reaches the river as I assumed I was beat.

Took me a good 30 seconds to realise what happened when all the chips moved my way 🤣

Tuesday 03/01/17 - The Blogger of the year celebration

Thanks to all your lovely votes I received €50 (£40, cheers brexit) in bonus money for the main Unibet site. Having excluded myself from the casino and bingo (because I think it's rubbish, not to protect myself :)) that left me with sports betting as the only option to clear it. I'm a terrible sports better, utterly terrible. I have very little idea of what I'm doing and how to be profitable when it comes to these things. I do understand, however, that if a team is 2-0 up with 20 minutes to go then they're a fairly safe bet so that was my plan. Minimum odds to qualify for clearing the bonus were 1.4 so I made 3 or 4 match accumulators on in-play games where a team was leading by a decent margin or a player was up a set in Tennis and things like that. Nothing that was going to bankrupt Unibet if I won but I figured if I can get the full £40 I'd be doing alright.

It went pretty well to be honest. Going by my BR in the poker client I made €67 roughly, I was delighted. That's the equivalent of a gold trophy in a decent €4 MTT without the need to sit around for 3 hours. Don't get me wrong, this isn't the end of the blog and me declaring my transition into sports betting, but it was nice to make a profit in something other than poker for a change. I have no plans of doing it again though. Losing bonus money is fine but I'm not about to risk the BR on 'sure things' as we all know how sport can be. Anyway it was a welcome boost to the the BR from an unexpected source.

On the felt the run of bad beats continued. Due to continued off site action the MTT quota was low, just 5 in total. An extract from my daily results spreadsheet will tell the story better than I can.

MTT€2.0062+32  €0.00-€2.00Daily Deepstack
MTT€4.0018+16  €0.00-€4.00Turbo (AJs < 9J Ax9 flop, 9 on river.)
MTT€2.004276 €0.00-€2.00Turbo (A8 < Q6 ALPF for 2 BB)
MTT€4.0011224  €0.00-€4.00Early Bounty
MTT€4.0050+45  €0.00-€4.00Daily 4 (AA < JT)

I just can't catch a break at the moment. Stone bubbling the second turbo was highlight of the pain and the Daily 4 bad beat made me close the client. As far as results go it was a positive day for the BR even though none of it came from poker :(

Profit for the day: €51.58

Wednesday 04/01/17 - Mission Man

After the excitement of the sports betting the previous day I decided to follow AndreiBN's excellent Tennis tips and make some fresh bets. It didn't go so well and I started the session £20 (€24.12) down. Only played 5 MTTs during the session again and cashed just one. I played 4 regular ones (which I didn't write any notes on so must have just been playing badly) and a €5 SE qualifier, using the ticket I had won earlier in the month. It ran pretty late in the evening so there was only a handful of players, 6 to be exact. I managed to finish 2nd and won a cool €2. Normally this would be chalked up as a lost but as the €5 ticket I had was won via a €1 qualifier I have actually doubled my initial investment 🆒. Just need to do that a couple hundred times more and we'll be back in business!

There was plenty to be getting on with regarding missions so first stop was a little NLHE to complete some flop requirements. In and out super quick with a cool 5 cents profit. Next up was the PLO blackjack portion of the mission so I hit those mean streets. Seeing 10 cards with a value of 10 or more in PLO is about as easy a task as you can get so it didn't take very long at all. I managed to double my buy in in the short time I was at the table and headed away with €4 extra in the BR. Final task of the day was to play a SNG where my streak of HU domination ended and I lost €2.

Profit for the day: -€34.64 (Damn you Tennis!!)

Thursday 05/01/07 - Heads on sticks

Smallest session of the week on Thursday. I'm just having too much fun on other sites just now. I don't know what it is but I'm just finding the schedule on other sites more interesting just now. I could probably recite the Unibet schedule for €1-€4 between 6pm and 10pm, it never changes.

That being said, a random MTT popped up in the lobby on Thursday.. a UK only €500 added bounty where there was a €1 on everyones head. No email, nothing obvious on the site, nada. I still don't know now why it ran but it did and there was €150+ for first and it cost €1.20 to enter :wow:. I'm assuming it was that price because that would be roughly £1 and would help with the promo of it to a UK crowd. Anyway, I didn't win it :( Finished 10th out of 41 with 6 getting paid.

Only other tourneys I played were the Daily 4 (which I busted in usual terrible fashion) and the €4 bounty deepstack. Finished just outside the medal places in 4th after my AJ < 56 after the big stack turned a straight. That payout plus 7 heads on a stick made for €35 of genuine poker profit. Feels like the first time in months that's happened after the run I've been on. It was also one of the biggest fields I've seen for the tourney (203) so it was nice to battle through the masses and get down to the final few.

I also played the SNG you saw in the post before but I wrote it down last on my results because I was at work so I'm writing about it now as the last thing I did as I type stuff out int eh order they appear on the results even though it happened first in the day... confused? Me too 🤣

Profit for the day: €31.93

Friday 06/01/17

Even though it's Friday now I can write about today's action because I'm already done for the day. I needed to play a SnG to clear the last part of a mission so I did that in my lunch break. The prize for completing the mission was a €4 ticket so I figured I'd play a €4 SnG and was basically freerolling. Dealt AT first hand, just shoved. Villain had AK :(.. Can't remember the exact run out but I think I hit a T on the river and that was that. Dirty I know. I'm not proud of it but it happened and it's a rare time where I've been behind and won so I'm going to tell you about it :haha:

NLHE blackjack was in the last part of the missions for the month so I cleared that as well and made another incredible 4 cents. I've really been crushing the cash games this month 🤣

There is a requirement of the final part of the mission to play a MTT three days in a row. I'm DJing tonight and have no plans to play after work so I had a quick look on the lobby for the first available €1 MTT to play. The first one I tried to play wouldn't let me register even though there was over 5 minutes left of late reg and they were nowhere near the payouts so I had to go for a bounty deepstack that was in level 1 :( I played like a maniac for 15 minutes or so and took 3 bounties. This meant the tourney cost me nothing and I was free to go back to work.

I logged in about an hour later to see if I was still in and found there was 50 or so people left and I was still middle of the pack. I ended up finishing 34th after I jammed on a Q7J board with Q4 and was called by a bigger maniac than me with 45. Runner runner for a straight. I ain't even mad about it 🤣

Profit for the day: €3.54

Saturday 08/01/17 - Evil Twitch Mods

Played some freerolls, didn't win any money.

Jonny was mean to me in Twitch chat and I cried. I'm leaving the site if he is not removed as a mod!! 😠 He said horrible things about my extremely long blog posts and told me I need to dress up like a poop at UO London. It made me sad :waterfall:

Edit: NMPFan said he would change the RevloBot to allow 100 point bets so I could be a hooligan gambler and then stole all my points. HE should also be banned from the community and well.. Earth.

Italics mean sarcasm if I've not mentioned that before.

Sorry that @MoreTBC takes my banter as bullying, I wont do it again.

And to be fair he offered to go to UO London as a poo if I went as a duck and he seemed very happy looking for poo suits earlier, so I presumed it was his life long dream to be a big poo and I tried to encourage him.

Also I think @FeelsBadMan Did the right thing by discouraging revlo addiction :P

ps.

Twitch chat late on gets strange.

  • 2 weeks later...

So much to catch up on, let's get stuck in.

Monday 09/01/17

I had some sort of flu/cold combo illness for most of the week so really didn't play a lot. There was a competition running in the Unibet 2+2 thread as they have reached a post count milestone where everyone that posted that they wanted in got 5x €1 Banzai tickets and the idea was whoever could get the highest cash value on a ticket by Monday would get €75 in tickets on top of what they won on the Banzai ticket. It's a great little promo because it adds some liquidity to Banzai for a few days and if you get a good run of cards you can make some good money.

I -thought- I was doing really well. I was up to €50 at one point but it turns out half way through the session I restarted the client and then sat back down with cash instead of the ticket meaning I was just running up my BR and not the ticket :(. It wasn't all bad though as I left up on the cash session and cleared the ticket so I ended up €40 better off. I cleared my Moving on Up requirement too without losing any money so things were going well.

I can't remember why (I'm guessing because I felt so ill) but I didn't play any MTTs on Monday.. apart from 1. I registered the €4 bounty at 10pm GMT and instantly regretted it. I was tired and in pain and really didn't want to sit for 2+ hours and battle it out on the mean streets of Unibet so I planned to just sit out and take the loss. The poker gods didn't agree with that and decided I should run hotter than the sun for the first 30 minutes or so of the tournament. I was also playing like a complete ❤️♥️❤️ too. I was 'that' guy. You know the one, pot bets every flop, massive pre-flop raises, always gets there on the river. It was obnoxious and I would have absolutely hated being on my table with me. I had 7 bounties by the first break and a massive chip stack. At that point I'd had enough. I was just feeling too sick to carry on and sat out. I'd made my €4 back and was happy with the little profit I had made. I went off to bed and though nothing more of it.

Anyone that's had the flu or a cold will know that sleeping is not an easy thing to do. Between the sweats, sniffles and coughs it's almost impossible to get a good nights sleep. After endless tossing and turning I got up about half 1 to get a glass of water and some medication... Wandering past my laptop, which I had left on, I noticed the tourney had ended. I expected to scrape into the money but to my surprise I managed to finish 4th! There must have been some serious ICM suicide going on for me to get that high up the rankings. I couldn't complain through, €30 profit for just trying to sleep was lovely to see :)

Profit for the day: €73.97

 Tuesday 10/01/17

Started off the session playing cash to complete Moving on up and the last mission step. Broken even in NLHE and lost a buy in at PLO4. Only played 4 MTTs and busted them all. I used tickets for most of them so it didn't really hurt the BR too much. Still wasn't feeling great and just didn't want to play a lot which didn't help either. At this point I was still playing 3 sites at a time so I had tourney or two from each site running at the same time which also kept the play count down. Lost a little on Andrei's tennis tips to cement a losing day.

Profit for the day: -€29.75

Wednesday 11/01/17

I got sent home from work because I was looking so rough from the flu. I generally don't get sick so I'm hoping this is me getting my sickness out the way early and the rest of the year I'll be fit as a fiddle :)

Started off with Moving on Up and made a buy in pretty quickly at PLO4. I will always play this promo on PLO because it offers better value to me and PLO is just more fun :) Looks like I started my MTT session around lunchtime as I'm playing €1 MTTs as there is nothing else running. Busted the first two I played and then a €4 turbo started. Picked up a gold trophy in this one for €46 profit. I don't remember anything about this but I was up to my eyeballs in flu medication so I don't remember a lot about anything from the week. First trophy of the month is good though, feels like a while since I closed one out. Followed this up with a 3rd in the €2 turbo for another €8 and then min cashed the €4 Bounty Deepstack. Ended the day firing two bullets at the Daily 4 and bricking hard

Profit for the day: €53.63

Thursday 12/01/17

The short sessions continue with only 3 MTTs played as I enjoy playing 1-2 tables on multiple sites over lots on one. One thing that will keep me coming back to Unibet every week are the €1.20 €500 added Bounty tourneys they're running twice a week for UK players. The value in these tourneys is incredible. You get €1 for every bounty for a start so you only need two to break even and the field is not big at all. I recorded 67 players when I played this tourney on Thursday and with 9 getting paid it's a big min cash if you can make it through. Today was one of those days as I made it to 8th for €20. Picked up a €4 ticket in the Betting freeroll and made €1.50 in PLO4 clearing Moving on up. Only negative for the day was my donation to the Daily 4.

Profit for the day: €19.09

Saturday 14/10/17

No play on Friday, Played only 2 MTTs on Saturday, paid for both with tickets, busted both.

Profit for the day: €0.00

Sunday 15/10/17

Slightly bigger session with 10 MTTs played but unfortunately it was not a profitable one. I fact, I was playing terribly. I had lost a lot of confidence on Unibet for some reason. I just couldn't get anything going and really wasn't playing well. The results confirmed that as I was nowhere near the money in any of them. I know around this time I was really struggling with motivation to play on Unibet. It's something I'm going to get into in a separate post this week as I think it needs some space in order to explain my thought process, then and now, so I'll just leave it as "I wasn't very interested in playing on Unibet last week" and we'll move on :)

Profit for the day: -€31.20

That's probably enough for just now. I'm on holiday this week catching up on my missed days from the end of last year so I have plenty of time to type waffle. I also just got the information email regarding UO London so I have to go find my passport and prove to Marco and the team I'm not a identity thief .

Much to Jonny's delight I stupidly agreed to play the Community side event (assuming there is one) as my avatar if he played as a duck. I'll be honest, I had a few drinks on the night we discussed it in twtich chat and I'm now paying the price.

IMG_20170118_113753.thumb.jpg.85750d3e78df1dc5b095e2a5309a51e2.jpg

There won't be any confusion as to who I am at UO London, I'll be the guy with the giant turd on his head

Monday 16/01/17

Day one of my 'holiday' and it's time to get stuck into some big (and hopefully profitable) sessions. I always like to get any missions/promos out the way first so I fired up a table of PLO to start a fresh week of Moving on Up. The results sheet suggest I dropped a buy in early before I cleared the flops and on my second buy in I managed to run it up and leave a buy in up :) I've been having a fairly good run on the PLO streets recently, or at least it feels that way, so I've been enjoying using the screen space for a little 4 card action.

I went on a run of 4 MTTs with no decent finishes. I've stopped recording 'bad beats' in general as I think highlighting them doesn't nothing other than making me a whiny bitch. Everyone get them and complaining or highlighting them just seems pointless. HAving said that I did run my ace high flush into a straight flush in one of the tourneys and wrote that down as it's one of those things that doesn't happen every day.

My first 'cash' came in a Daily 25 qualifier where I finished 3rd and got my €4 back as a ticket. I miss playing the bigger games but am trying to stick to my BRM as much as possible so thought I'd try a qualifier. It wasn't to be but it was a nice confidence boost that the day might not be all bad.

I played my normal €4 batch of tourneys and busted everything apart from the deepstack turbo. I normally see this one as the last chance saloon as far as €4 MTTs go on the daily schedule. There is a bounty at 10pm but if you have work the next day it's a bit of a late one so I normally don't reg anything after the deepstack. Finished 2nd in it on Monday for €30 which took a big chunk out of the loses for the day and further restored my confidence in playing.

I must have cleared a points stage as I got a bunch of SNG tickets during the night so I fired up two HU to finish the day. Won 1, lost 1.

Profit for the day: €9.43

Tuesday 17/01/17

Started the day firing all the leftover SNG tickets I had from the challenge points. Won 1 - Lost 2. I didn't pay for any of them so it's all profit as far as I'm concerned.

Min cashed my first MTT, 12th in a €1 turbo, to start the MTT grind profitably and then busted the next 4 in typical fashion. Continuing the min cash train I finished 5th (6 paid) in a €4 turbo and 9th (9 paid) in one of the Sjlot €4 events. Back to back final tables in the deepstack turbo netted another €10 profit and that was that for the day. Basically a break even day.

Profit for the day: -€0.12

Wednesday 18/01/17

Got crushed by Andrei's tennis bets (I thought he knew what he was doing 🤣) on Thursday night/Wednesday morning so I started down for the day. I thought I was going to be down more but I think Brexit helped out and boosted the pound that day so it took the edge off the lost.

Completed Moving on up in the green to the tune of €1.50 which made up for the loss yesterday. The 25 flop requirement is quite the grind but I'm a maniac so I'm playing 75% VPIP or something :)

Only played 6 MTTs as I was focusing on action off site but it was a pretty fruitful day. Started off with the 2nd in the afternoon €4 turbo for €29 profit. Followed that up with a €10 ticket win in a €2 UO sat that I played using a ticket from the community league. Last cash of the day was in the bounty deepstack. If you read the last post then what happened was basically a mirror of my last bounty win minus the illness and sitting out. Another heater of epic proportions with heads being chopped off left and right. I couldn't close out the gold trophy and ended up 3rd but with 12 bounties to my name it was a €50 boost to the BR. The players are wild in this tourney, if you can get a good run of cards you can make a lot of money.

Busted the other 3 I played but 50% ITM is a stat I will take any day.

Profit for the day: €62.59

The crisis of confidence with Unibet

** DISCLAIMER **

This is not going to be a Unibet bashing post so don't worry :). It's also not going to be an advert for any other site either. I said from the very first post that I'd be as transparent as possible about my poker play and if that means talking about things I'm doing on other sites I'm going to do it. The reason this post is separate to everything else is that if anyone feels anything in the post is out of line it can be edited/removed without affecting the main blog. I don't intend to get out of line, I'm being sent to London for free on a technicality, I have no reason to start firing shots :). This is just me explaining my thought process behind my drop in volume/happiness and realisation that things are not that bad :)

Anyway, on with the show..

I've felt a shift in happiness and desire to play on Unibet since December last year. There was nothing specific that triggered it but I know I was definitely less motivated after the MTT league promo stopped. I just felt like I was playing exactly the same things every day but I was playing for less with the promo ending. I was really playing for the points, not the cash. When that stopped it just wasn't as exciting. The other thing that happened was a combination of Triple8 releasing a beta of their client that fixed a graphical issue that basically made it impossible for me to play there and PokerParty (PP) giving me free tickets for things over Christmas. On the normal Triple8 client the lobby wouldn't scale on a high DPI screen and it was a nightmare to read on my laptop. With that fixed in the beta I was free to play there and with the free tickets I had things to play on PP as well.

It was a breath of fresh air. New schedules full of MTTs with fun names, more of them and more variety. The other big thing was the GTDs.. oh man the GTDs. You could play a $1 rebuy on Triple8 every night with a 1K prize pool :wow:. Now I know that a) Unibet can only set GTDs based on the players they have so they can't match this and b) 1K ain't that big (the old PS $1 rebuy hit 12K or something I think before the raked rebuys) but it was a world away from the €1 €100 deepstack I was playing normally. It was new and exciting and it made me want to use screen space I would normally use on Unibet tables on other sites. Winning 100x+ your buy in is simply a bigger drive than 20x.

Another issue I was struggling with at the time was the software. Now I've been one of the heaviest supporters of the 2.0 client and will continue to promote the fact that I think it'll be one of the best to play on when it's finally finished. Having said that, after using other clients for a while, the little things started annoying me. The MTT info tab being so difficult to read when you have the table small, not being about to set my own custom quick bet sizes, the lobby only showing a handful of tournaments at a time.. all the little things were winding me up. I knew they were not going to get fixed and time soon either. The software is back to it's monthly update cycle so if something is not quite right then it's staying like that for a month. The easiest way I thought to not get wound up about it was to not play as much.

The final thing was the community. It was quiet. Now this is to be expected over the festive period but I didn't realise how much of a pull it is in my playing. When there isn't much happening on the forums/twitch I just feel less inclined to play. I don't know why this is a thing but it appears to be :)

I sound pretty miserable don't I? ;) Fear not, all is well :)

First of all, I've been running really well on Triple8. They have a big Sunday tourney they were heavily promoting over the weekend and pop up about the last chance sat popped up on my screen. It was only $5 so I figured why not. I managed hold on for a ticket but someone didn't do the math correctly and the sat ended after the late reg period. Ticket gets refunded and I'm $320 better off. A blessing in disguise really. I've also made a few final tables and chopped the nightly $2 on Tuesday for $260 so things are going well.

I realised something when I was playing that tourney on Tuesday.. I remembered why I love playing on Unibet. When I finally chopped that tourney it had been running for over 7 hours. It finished at half 2 in the morning or something and if I had work the next day I'd be knackered. You just don't get this on Unibet and I like that. I don't remember sitting in a tourney I've won on Unibet that lasted much more than 4 hours. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love getting through big fields and playing on Triple8 with the next level of entrants (500+) has reminded me how satisfying it is but I also like just getting it done in a few hours. It reminded me that when I only have a few hours in an evening to play that Unibet is a great choice.

Another thing that brought me joy for Unibet back up to 100% was the idea of rebuys. There is a MTT thread on 2+2 for Unibet and Andrew confirmed that rebuys would be in the update at the end of the month. On it's own this is going to be a great thing for MTT players. Imagine a world where the Daily 4 is a rebuy instead of that horrible multibuy thing 😀. The other thing that is going to be awesome when they arrive is maybe not instantly obvious.. qualifiers. Triple8 have a MTT series running just now and there are sats for everything. The first event is a $109 buy in yet you can play sats for $1. Rebuys make this a possibility. Imaging playing the SE from a €1 rebuy sat or getting a UO package from a €10 rebuy. None of this steps malarky, just a single sat to the big time. Sounds amazing doesn't it? I'm so excited to see what is going to be offered. Unfortunately they won't be changing the schedule massively until after the major client issues are sorted and I can fully understand that. I do hope they're proactive and not reactive if/when the new schedule is ready and we get a look before launch to provide feedback but that's probably just me because I'm nosey.

Things on the community have picked up again and I feel more involved now :). I've been helping with some behind the scenes stuff and the details about London are in now so I'm getting excited again about heading to London in Feb. It's going to give me lots to blog about too so I'm really excited to write about stuff I don't normally and share some experiences I've never had before. I need to work out a good way to take note before I go so I don't forget anything too. I expect there will be a lot going on and I don't want to miss a thing!

So there you go, sadness and happiness in one post. The festive lull hit me hard but we're back on track now. Going forward I think I'll be splitting my poker time between here and Triple8. I've been enjoying running 2 tables from each client at the same time and 4 tables seems to be my sweet spot for optimal play too so it all fits nicely. I'll sneak any big off site wins into the blog but day to day the grind will still continue on Unibet. Glasgow is going to be a banker for attendance for the UK tour so we'll be focusing on that after London and of course the long road back to profit.

Glad that's all off my chest, congrats if you made it to the end of the post :)

@MoreTBC I made it till the end. But I have to confess that I didn't read it all. But I can understand your actions from what I did read :D and it's important to once in a while let some fresh air blow trough your life :p

But I'm really happy to read that you get the nice feeling in the community back ;) I'm sure 2017 will bring great things on here :)

Nice post! I think it's normal you want some variation and not play the same games and opponents all day every day. Some variation is a good way to prevent a poker burnout.

I also wish Unibet was bigger. But then again, half an hour in the chat of a pokerstars twitch stream or 4 hours grinding for 1 cent in a pokerstars freeroll pulls me back to the friendly Unibet environment and makes me glad some of those people aren't over here 😏 The growth of Unibet is a long term process, but if the poker team can continue to do what they are doing, I'm sure it'll get bigger every year 😃

  • 2 weeks later...

2am on a Saturday after DJing for 3 hours and drinking seems like a great time to try and remember nearly two weeks worth of poker on 2 sites doesn't it? Spelling and grammar mistakes incoming!

Thursday 19/01/17

Down half a buy in completing Moving on up to start the day. Played 6 MTT and cashed 3, good haul. Well actually I cashed 2 and collected enough bounties to be profitable in the third :) Davitsche was playing some PLO25, I sat down at the table, I lost a buy in in about 10 minutes :(

Profit for the day: -€3.59

Friday 20/01/17

Lost nearly a buy in at Moving on up but completed the week and got a ticket. Played 4 MTTs, busted them all :(

Profit for the day: -€15.45

Saturday 21/01/17

I don't know what I did, but at some point I didn't use my PLO10 ticket from Moving on up and ended up playing cash. Either way I ended up making €30 and then cashing the ticket for about €2. Played 4 MTTs, best result was a 2nd in an 18 man that was on stream. NMPfan beat me with his grim avatar :(

Profit for the day: €29.31

Small interlude while I sleep...

 *Insert several days here*

So, I forgot to finish this in the morning after the night before. Nevertheless I am now sober and can carry on with some short recaps.

Sunday 22/01/17

I played a single turbo, didn't cash. Was focusing on some $55 MTTs I'd won tickets for on 'the other site'

Profit for the day: -€4

Monday 23/01/17

New week of Moving on up, started the week strong with a +3 buy in day. Gave my daily donation to the Daily 4 and that was it.

Profit for the day: €7.96

Tuesday 24/01/17

Lost a buy in completing Moving on up, donated to the Daily 4 and bricked two MTTs I played with tickets.

Profit for the day: -€7.32

Wednesday 25/01/17

Lost 81 cents completing Moving on up, donated to the Daily 4 and finished 9th in the Early bounty for €9. Can you sense a pattern in the play here?

Profit for the day: €4.26

Thursday 26/01/17

Lost a buy in completing Moving on up but I think this was the day the pound decided it wasn't going to be the markets bitch and and rose in value.. or I missed something in recording because I had €6.50 more than my sheet said I should. I'm counting it as a winning day :p

Profit for the day: €1.92

Friday 27/01/17

Just played PLO to clear Moving on up, lost just over a Euro

Profit for the day: -€2.74

Saturday 28/01/17

Played 4 MTTs, bricked them all :(

Profit for the day: -€16

Sunday 29/01/17

I converted my PLO25 ticket into MTT ones thanks to a nice man in Live Support and then proceeded to dust them all :( Twice I played a €10 SE qualifier and won my ticket back to then lose it in the Sunday Deepstack. Daily 4 donation and a couple other MTTs completed another dreadful day.

Profit for the day: -€10.20

Off site action

At some point over one of the weekends I took a trip to my local casino and played some live poker. It was a £1/£1 cash game and I was there for about 5 hours or so. I didn't win, in fact I lost £100, but had a great time. It's very satisfying playing live for some reason. I think it's because you have to think a lot more.

Now I'm not saying Internet poker is a breeze by any means but a lot of the things you have to do in a live game you just don't need to online. Working out if you have to put in a blind, bet sizing, your stack size.. even remembering what your cards are is easier online. I was card dead for the whole session, never getting anything higher than 10's or AQo but I was up around £30 at one point when I won a big pot on the river with a nut flush against what I'm assuming is a regular. I assumed that based on the fact a number of the players at the table seemed to know him and he was playing a PS tournament on his phone a the time :)

It really has got me in the mood for UO London and I can't wait to play some more live cards. The community event is going to be a lot of fun!

Online I've been running well on 'the other site'. You know the one, looks like 3 blue snowmen lined up next to each other. Let's call it (1000-112) today ;). Anyway all deposits have been cashed out and I'm up a few hundred $. I've made a number of final tables, won a few sats and chopped the big daily $2 (Can you call a $2 MTT big?). Along with this I purchased Holdem Manager 2 today to keep track of that side of things and to help with my game. As I can't do any real studying into hands on Unibet I can at least do it somewhere else and apply it here. It also means I can post hands from HM2 that relate to situations I have had on Unibet without promoting (1000-112).

I'm not really sure whether I'll bother with the MTT league this time around. The formula is still far too heavily weighted towards first place finishes IMO and all the qualifying MTTs are the same as far as I can tell. Maybe if I hit a good run I'll play some good volume but I'm not expecting anything major :)

Month end review will be in the next few days, see you then.

30/01/17

No play, was DJing Monday night.

31/01/17

Played 4 MTTs bricked them all. I did finish 3-4 places away from the money in two of them so that's a positive I guess. Had 3 x €1 SNG tickets to use, 3 HU games, won 2, lost 1.

Profit for the day: -€`12.12

** End of Month Review **

  • +/- for the month: €138.91
  • Days played: 28
  • Losing days: 15
  • Winning/Break Even days: 13
  • Sessions/Games played - Cash: 29, SNGs: 13, MTTs: 132
  • ROIs - Cash: -1.54% , SNGs: 94% , MTTs: 17.68%

** FULL MONTH RESULTS **

Not too bad all things considered. Volume of MTTs was nearly half of December based on all the stuff in a previous post but results on the winning days appear to have helped. Actually, I'm not sure why I've made a profit.. I'll go check.

*Looks at results*

Looks like converting my FBM from the end of year awards into cash and the Banzai ticket mishap have done the best work in boosting the bankroll. I've had a few decent final table scores as well so all in all a pretty positive month.

Goals for February

  • Get out the hole and start playing with profit again
  • Blog regularly and post hands for discussion and analysis that will be helpful to the community.
  • Finish top 50 in the Low MTT league
  • Get top 10 in the Community League
  • Cash something at UO London

Sticking with the same basic goals as January really. I don't feel under any pressure to get out of the hole in a hurry, If I can consistently make €150+ a month I'm happy with that. It's not going to be quick process but it's moving in the right direction. I decided to give the MTT league promo another bash in the end so I definitely want to improve on whatever I got last time and reach a decent spot. The same goes with the Community league. I was kind of embarrassed to see myself with 2 points in the December league. Nothing to do with the number of points but more that I only played 1 qualifying MTT in the whole month. I was one of the people that pushed for it originally and now I'm contributing to it not being as big as it once was by not playing regularly. That's going to change in Feb and hopefully it'll grow again into a great event for everyone.

UO hype continues to grow. Flight confirmations were emailed today and after getting them to change my London to Aberdeen flight from the 7th to the 27th we're good to go . Word on the street (or my email) is that the schedule for London will be out early next week so it'll be good to pick out what stuff to play when I'm down. Cashing something is the dream as it's basically a freeroll whatever I play :)

I'll be back in a few days with all the action from the start of the month. See you soon!

Wednesday 01/02/17 - New month, new me..

The MTT league is back and so am I! Points mean prizes so I'm going to try my best to hit a decent spot on the leaderboard this time around and beat my 19th in November last year.

The €4 turbo is the first qualifying event of the league but if I don't get home sharp from work for any reason I miss it :( Unfortunately this was the case on Wednesday but there were still plenty of chances to win points. The newly boosted €500 gtd €4 Bounty Deepstack really is the one you wanna focus on and play your A-Game in. It's hitting well over 200 entrants now and is by far the biggest points generator for the low league. For you stats fans out there it hit 213 entrants on Wednesday which is 171 points for the win. As of today (the 6th) that would put you in 7th place, for a single qualifying MTT. Win the equivalent €1 deepstack, get 43 points. I've been through what I think it wrong with the points system and all that in the MK4 feedback thread and here but I think my main point still stands, the €1/€2 are a waste of screen space when it comes to the league.

Anyway, back to the poker. The aforementioned bounty deepstack ended in a 7th place with two points to start the league off in a positive manner. The rest of the qualifying events, not so much. Busts all round unfortunately. The only other MTT I played was the community league. I went on about wanting to get back into this to help it grow and what better way to do that than to take home the gold trophy! A nice shiny 1st place finish to start the month and €20 profit, good stuff.

All that profit then disappeared as I placed some bets on based on Andrei's tennis thread.

Finished the night with some PLO and a SNG to complete some missions and apparently test for a bug. I don't remember what the bug was but it ended up in me winning a couple euros :) A profitable day on the virtual felt that looks like a loss with the tennis bets. Damn you universal balance, DAMN YOU!!

Profit for the day: -€0.54

Thursday 02/02/17

Not sure what I was doing but I missed the turbo and the bounty deepstack registration so there was only 4 chances to earn some points in the league on Thursday. Busted the early bounty and the daily 4 but did make the final two tables in the turbo PLO bounty. Finished 7th which, although being a cashing position, actually paid less than the €4 buy in. The deepstack turbo went a little better as I made the final table and finish 3rd for €30 profit. Things are looking good so far for the league.

Played some cash, both PLO and NLHE, to clear some missions and my Tennis bets on the previous day returned a profit so cap off a second profitable day in a row on the poker front.

Profit for the day: €48.43

Friday 03/02/17

Got the full €4 schedule in on Friday night and continued the trend of hitting a final table. Today's final table was in the early bounty which ended in a 5th place. I was knocked out by Hensiepensie live on his stream as his AK held against my AQ. He'd also had me beat on the previous two hands and took a large chunk of my stack before my demise. I picked up 7 bounties during the tourney so I made a good €35 in profit from it.

Finished 8th in the Community league to boost my points a little in that as well but did not cash. Finished the day with some cash NLHE to complete a mission and won nearly 2 buy ins, a rare treat! More tennis bets before bed ruin the profit again

Profit for the day: €8.89

Saturday 04/02/17

Was DJing at night so couldn't play any league qualifiers and had to make do with the afternoon schedule. Played 6 MTTs in total and cashed in 2 of them. I late regged the lunchtime deepstack turbo and crept into the money in 9th and finished 4th in the €2 daily deepstack for €14. Previous days tennis bets returned a profit and an inspired in-play rugby bet boosted the BR greatly.

Profit for the day: €63.88

Sunday 05/02/17

The big Sunday grind returned the usual big Sunday losses :( 16 MTTs played with only 3 returning any kind of profit (and two of them were only because of bounties, not actual cashes). Best finishes were a 13th in an afternoon bounty for €7 and winning a €10 UO ticket in a €2 I had a ticket for.

I put some bets on the Super Bowl which I forgot to record so the profit should be worse than it looks but it'll balance out on Monday :)

Profit for the day: -€47.06

I'm currently sitting 30th in the Low league with 100 points. Still plenty of time left to make my way up the standings but it's going to be a little trickier than I imagined as I'm working every Monday night this month and two Thursdays which is going to remove 36 potential chances to score points. Add in being in London for 4 days at the end of the month and working weekends means I'm really going to need to find a heater to finish high up this time around.

I love a challenge though :)

Hey @MoreTBC, still enjoying the Blog very much 😃 Thank You... keep it up Mate 👍 You seem to be on the brink of being very profitable :cash:... if you could cut out the leaks man.  I've got some suggestions for you that might help.

1. Rename Your blog to some thing like " How to be really good @ poker & make TONS of money !!! " or something similar. I think you kinda self fulfilling the name of the Blog & if you change it, your profits will sky rocket.

2. If you can, try keep your betting & poker money separate. I don't know how you going to do it...but it would be for the best. You make money on poker & squander it on bets, when it should stay in your account as poker profit to build you bankroll. A small leak that is fixable, if you could split your poker & betting money  LOL.

3. If you can, give 5 - 10% more effort over the board... of things you need to do, to be not just profitable, but very profitable playing online poker. Like cutting out distractions, focusing on your game, concentration levels & so on. 5 -10% more effort across the board, will add up to a big percentage in your profit margin I think. You've got what it takes to make good money Mate !

& we all rooting for you to do it anyways... plus, it will make for more exciting Blog material for you to write about, & us to read about. ( Not that it's not exciting, jus saying it could be more... if you know what I mean. LOL

Thanks for the words @Nestabear :)

1. I've always liked the title :) I don't think I'll ever be really good at poker and to be honest I don't want to be. I want to make profit, just like everyone else, but I don't want to make it a full time job or anything like that. I don't have the patience or desire to really study and improve beyond watching twitch and just playing and learning from my mistakes. I never planned to make lots of money when I started the blog so renaming it to what you suggested would make me feel like I was lying to everyone. I just want to be a really good break even/slightly winning player. It's just for fun tokens at the end of the day, not to pay the bills :)

2. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do about the single balance on Unibet. The thing about the sports bets is that I usually place them one day (when Andrei posts) and they return the next day so it makes the results for the day a little skewed either up or down. I'm actually up in 2017 on betting I think so it's not been affecting my BR negatively and I don't bet big. At most I'm risking 5% of BR on bets and I usually do lots of small 3 or 4 way bets so that the variance is lower. It would help the BR if I never made a sports bet though, I agree :)

3. 100% agree on this. I get distracted way too easily. I also find myself having 6+ tables open and just blinding clicking on auto-pilot without really thinking about what I'm doing. Lowering table count and improving thought process is something I want to focus on this year.

I understand what you mean in the spoiler too. Everyone prefers to read a winning blog over a losing blog :)

Thanks for replying in general, everyone else seems to get a lot of replies and interaction in their blogs and I don't hear much :) Maybe I just write to much and cover all bases or maybe everyone needs a lie down after reading it but it's nice to know people still enjoy reading my nonsense. ♥️

Poker and Food - How do you do it?

I've been thinking a lot about Nestabear's comment about removing distractions and focusing more and one thing that always distracts me is food. Not eating it, I can do that and play no bother, but preparing it. How do you guys get around only have 5 minutes or less in the break to prepare food? Pre-made meals, run back and forth, be fully fed before you start a session?

On a week day I'll get home around 5:45-6pm and I'm normally pretty hungry. For promo's like the MTT league late reg for the first qualifying MTT (the €4 turbo) ends at 6pm I think so you basically have to get that up and running straight away. The bounty deepstack starts at 6 for me too so that's a second table open. Normally what I would do is just take my laptop to the kitchen and try and make something while playing. This is never ideal and has lead me to time out with big pairs or miss action because I have my back turned. Ordering food is always an option but it's both expensive and mostly not good for me so I try as much as possible to stay clear of that.

I don't really know a good way around it all so I'm looking for some tips from the daily grinders on here :) How do you survive 4+ hours of play and eating?
