Heads-up SNG Bankroll Challenge

Recommended Posts

Hello Players!

It has been awhile and I started to play some SNGs for my challenge again in the background. Since the last update I've played 106 of them, most at 4€, only having one unsuccessful 4-games attempt on 10€. I have to admit that this challenge has been a genuine test for my patience so far :scared: I'm running out of ideas how to beat €4s 😛 But whatever long it's going to take, I'm ready to move on. Wish me Luck, I need it here more than ever :atisfied:

I'm certainly going to wish you luck @Psycho79 but it looks to me you're not giving yourself a long enough shot at 10s before having to move back down. If your best winning run at 4s is 6 and worst run 8 you need a lot more "wiggle" room only being able to lose 2 ina row before dropping back down. You need a much longer shot than this, I would say at least 10, so wouldn't step up the stakes till you reach 200, and tbh that is an absolute bare minimum. I know two to three hundred euros looks a long way off but really its the only way or else you'll just find yourself bouncing up and down stakes. Stick at it and best of luck.👍

That doesn’t make sense. Why does it matter if he has 10 or 4 buy-ins for a shot? As long as he moves back, it’s just fine.

If you lose 2 buy ins at 10 and have to move down straightaway to 4s its going to take you far longer to win back 20 at 4 at a time than at 10.

If you start with 100, lose2x10, win 5x4, lose 2x10, win 5x4 you're just bouncing up and down on the same spot instead of making money.

@GR1ZZL3R I get your point and appreciate your feedback/advice 👍 But I've already mentioned it's a challenge, and what stands behind the shallow levels is readiness to move quickly between them, and learn/adjust strategies needed to do so as well. I did the scheme with my first challenge, 5man SNGs, and I'm sure it's just the matter of all to click in the right time. The variance in HUs is incomparably higher of course, but if I need time to grind more BuyIns at certain levels, I can easily move down after unsuccessful attempts a couple of times, having experience of taking a shot to the next level.  Not here to moan about the variance, but what can you do coming across the champs limp/calling a ship Q4o with your AK having as much/only 67% 🆒 Or anothers who clearly recognizing you start shoving every hand from the beginning...😛 You just get your AJ on the 6th hand and enchanting it to hold against 92 with its 68% 🤣 I get lucky often enough too of course, but at least I have some merit to make calls, or I just deceive myself 😉 Then, I expect these things to happen less at the next stages, and the challenge to become more interesting when battling players rather than the deck. And if I'm wrong then, I'm ready to verify/change the ladder appropriate way. I just need some more patience to get there. Thanks for reading it and having interest in my challenge. GL!

In order to have 10 buy-ins for the 10€ level, you have to win 20 buy-ins more at the 4€ level. That will take you quite some time. Given your example, you might not move up and down as much but it will take you significantly longer to move up in the first place.

That’s why shot taking exists. If you have a strong mindset, you could play any stake with just a few buy-ins if you are willing to move down as soon as necessary. Most people don’t have a strong enough mindset though. Most people don’t feel comfortable playing with a large percentage of their bankroll. There’s no reason to not take shots when you can beat higher stakes and the only reason you’re not playing higher stakes is the lack of a proper bankroll.

I found time to have some more games today, the results are satisfying :atisfied: The best winning streak is now seveeeen 😛 May this time to be a hold on 10€s? We'll see, getting back to the action tomorrow. @GamesDean you've put it accurately supporting my point of view. Indeed, as long as you stick to your own plan nothing bad can happen to your bankroll, no matter how aggressive your management is. I feel comfortable starting playing levels with only 10BuyIns, cause I know I have discipline to move down. I just hope it won't be the main direction I'm heading to 😏 GL ALL!

I fully understand what you're both saying, I'm just pointing out that it would be a bit aggressive for me, especially as you move up levels. Thats a good start this time but when would you move up to 25s, at 250euros, still giving you only 10 buy ins, or a higher safety margin which will take significant time to reach anyway. I'm just trying to point out if you can lose 8 in a row at 4s then 10 buy ins at 10 or higher is going to be totally inadequate unless you run really well. Best of luck, keep us updated. 👍

Obviously, you need to run good to make a shot work. There’s no way, though, that you need more time taking aggressive shots. However, there is a possibility you need less time and you move up faster.

There’s no point in having a higher safety margin when you have a safety net at 100€ where you always move down. You just need a strong mindset and then you can be as aggressive as your bankroll allows you to be.

We're gonna win on so many levels! We're gonna win, win, win. You're gonna get so tired of winning, you're gonna say: "Mr. President please, we don't wanna win anymore, it's too much!" And I'm gonna say: "I'm sorry, we're gonna keep winning because we're gonna make America great again!"

I can't understand why there are still players at the lower levels, if everyone took your advice we'd just jump up a level every day. Sure no problem, I don't need more time taking aggressive shots, one a day's plenty for me, 7 days and I'll be playing 100's. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Obviously, not all players are skilled enough to play higher stakes – in fact, some players could play with play money and still loose. That’s the main reason why most players play the lowest stakes available. Also, some players might not feel comfortable playing for a reasonable amount of money. Most people are risk-averse.

I don’t get your point, though. Are you seriously claiming that players are moving up faster with a conservative bankroll management?

Not at all @GamesDean I'm suggesting if your properly rolled you have more chance of making an attempt at higher stakes stick.

If a player with a 100 br has to move back down after 2 losses, but a player with 200 doesn't have to drop downt till he's lost 100, which one is more likely to still be playing 10s after 100 games. I know which one my money's on. 😃

Anyway @GamesDean when I re-read the thread I've realized the challenge isn't really about the money, it's the challenge of playing higher levels each time, in which case it doesn't really matter how you're rolled, so best of luck @Psycho79 keep us updated.👍:cash:

But in order to have 200 instead of 120, you have to win 80 more (= 20 buy-ins). That will take you much longer than taking a shot for 2 buy-ins whenever you reach 120 (= 5 buy-ins needed).

There’s no difference between moving up with 200 or moving up and down five times whenever you reach 120. You play the same amount of games with the same amount of money. The only difference is that the aggressive player might move up faster.

Very well explained The €10s should be regarded as one long row of games. Losing 5x2 buyins would be the same as losing 1x10buyins. With the aggressive BR management he just tries to catch an upswing at higher stakes as soon as possible. He wants this to be a challenge, not a grind.

@Psycho79 GL GL I hope you can catch some heat in the €10s this time

Hey Players!

2018 hasn't been an easy year for me, like ups and downs of my challenge 😏 It hasn't been updated for long but I don't give, I hope to be right back in the game soon. In the meantime, I would like to wish you all Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year. GL and see you in 2019 :peace:

Hello Players!

I just realized how loooooong it has been since I updated this thread for the last time. 2019 has been an amazing year for me so far, but a lot can be done still. Althought my challenge hasn't been refreshed for quite some time, I've still managed playing some games for it. Last week I reached the number of 400 games played. I wish the results were better but they are not. I'm halfway down to bust the second attempt. Still, I don't give up, hoping to turn the direction around to the top, but if needed firing the last 3rd bullet. See you on the tables and GL!

Hello Players!

No good news again, another 11 games didn't bring any change and put me on the bottom instead :annoyed: I guess next week I'm going to start my last attempt and try motivating myself to more systematic and effective work 👍 Let's hope I can move on from the pit stop this time :happyshy: See you soon, GL!

Hello Players!

As said started playing the last try for my HU challenge. Not too optimistic beginning, just won 4 out of 10 games. Trying not to lose enthusiasm for it, and maybe the tables will eventually turn. Wish me luck, see you soon!
