There we are, writing negative numbers again. It seemed like a decent session for a while but it shifted over. Suddenly all my shoves got called by dominating hands and I wouldn´t win flips anymore. Let´s jump to the rants, shall we?

25€ 5 Max ROI after 1650 games: -0,9%

45 minutes worth of studying every day just doesn´t seem to be enough to beat games full of donks and regs that have massive leaks. This was an exact rendition of what I am used to once again. Hopefully this downswing isn´t going into the second round...

First a short demonstration of the level of play today:

mistake.png.a62d68ff9cc3b2835543a1401da62bef.png955071479_mistake2.thumb.png.ba76848e2a90c70c73db6d6a6ea07334.png

and now the rants:

And finally two subsequent hands that I thought were rather funny:

I had three 3-barrel bluffs called by bottom pair/no kicker. Quite possibly tilted by that I called this hand down. What do you think? Is there some justification of my play? What do you think of his play?

Maybe if you had a strong read that villain raised all/most Ax and Kx pre or that villain valuebets worse then you could justify the calldown. Otherwise I don't really like the calldown. You block 78 too. Interesting bets by villain there. Does he think that you are a calling station, or maybe he thinks you would raise most Ax and Kx pre against a limp preflop and he might get value from worse? Or maybe they are just a fish that overvalued their hand?

For some reason I find those minbet triple barrel leads with bottom pair are extra tilting even though I should be happy when my opponents use a strategy like that 🤣

25€ 5 Max ROI after 1673 games: -1,1%

I cannot take it anymore. I have officially lost all confidence in my play. The only thing that cheers me up a little bit is the fact that a not so great reg and a terrible reg seem to be making a living on my stakes, so why not me? But maybe I am indeed just an awful player?

Anyway I´ve had it for this quarter. I will take some time off of poker until april 1st, excluding the Magnus Open and whatever it takes to earn the remaining 100 Challengepoints to finish the month with 400.000 Challenge points. I will reevaluate my play and likely drop down to 10s for a while to rebuild my confidence.

I will be back with a resumee and some goals going into the future as soon as the rage wears off

Shame :/. But I think it's certainly a good decision to move down in that case, I don't think it is possible to play well if you are not confident.

Hopefully you are able to figure out what things you are doing wrong when playing (if anything). You seem to do a lot of studying. How do you study, could you improve that in some way? Do you study enough of both preflop and postflop? Do you pay enough attention to opponents? Do you adjust shoving ranges enough against fish who don't care about ICM? How many tables do you play? I guess these are all some things that could affect play.

For postflop I have recently been watching some of Pluribuses play (a poker artificial intelligence) and some of the solver analysis videos on Youtube mostly for inspiration on new things that I could try and to see what kinds of things I'm possibly doing wrong.

But anyway, you could still be a good player on a downswing, especially with the amount of bad beats you post. With your sample you are still within a 95% confidence interval of having about 4% or 5% ROI. You don't seem like an awful player by any strech and you are playing in a seemingly tough field. And in the end I don't play 5 man SnG and am not really a pro either so what do I know :D

GL and enjoy your days off!

@CuteRaven

A fair bit of my studying is looking up preflop spots with ICMIZER. I also look at everything that seems interesting on youtube. Sometimes I think through certain spots again after the session and even copy from other regs, but not quite as much as I am not too impressed by their play 😏

The problem with the 5 max games on Unibet is the players seem to have no understanding of ICM so you really need to be adjusting to the situation table by table as opposed to just using ICMizer ranges.

Dropping down should do wonders for your confidence, gl.

I have given it some thought now. Starting on April 1st I will grind 25s again. If the runbad continues and I start tilting again I will drop down to 10s. However I do have confidence that I can beat 25s for at least 2% ROI, which is the minimum needed to pay my bills from
poker. I have made roughly 2300€ this quarter or roughly an apprentice´s wage. Not great but given the runbad and time I spend playing
lower stakes (as low as 2€)it might not be too bad.
I have set myself following goals:

1. Grind out 600.000 Challenge points in the next quarter
2. Play at least 1500 SNGs per month
3. Study at least four days a week
4. Keep the physical exercise up every second day
5. Do a daytrip somewhere every fortnight (starting as soon as the situation allows for it)

6. Improve significantly at chess
7. Become fluent in Welsh
8. Become fluent in French understanding

The last three goals are quite ambitious. If I succeed at only one of them I will book that as a success.

Nice goals. Hopefully you can make an epic comeback like Phil Galfond!

The variance of 2% ROI does not sound fun though.

And yeah, the impact of physical excersize (or lack of it) should not be underestimated. At least for the good functioning of my brain it seems very important.

25€ 5 Max ROI after 1730 games: -0,4%

The session started great with losing the first ten Allins. That´s a one in a thousand chance so maybe my memory is tricking me here but anyway I wasn´t too happy. It did take a bit of a turn later on but the same reg just won´t stop running like a god. However I did get closer to getting my head above water. Here are some random rants:

Just a few minutes into the session and the first preflop Allin at the 5 Max tables ends up like this:

2030136617_Screenshot(969).thumb.png.4b8f024594ba2ce017dcaf009b73c2cd.png

This will be fun, won´t it?

Well, it turned out it would be. I prepared some rants but it shifted over in my favour and now it doesn´t seem right anymore to post them. I ended the session winning almost every headsup and can finally enjoy some positive numbers again. Let´s just hope we aren´t set up for round 3...

25€ 5 Max ROI after 1793 games: 0,4%
25€  Headsup ROI after 967 games: -1,2%
50€ 5 Max ROI after 68 games: 16,5%
100€ 5 Max ROI after 12 games: 48,2%

I might add that I feel like a very happy person at this point in time. I am in one of the few businesses that actually profit from the current pandemic while simultaneously nobody from my family has been infected. Being an introvert by nature the lockdown rules hardly limit me in my daily routines either.

25€ 5 Max ROI after 1856 games: 0,75%
25€ Headsup ROI after 977 games: -1,1%
50€ 5 Max ROI after 74 games: 22,3%
100€ 5 Max ROI after 13 games: 49,2%

After some initial ups and downs the session turned into a nice upswing for me. I ran especially hot at higher stakes games, where I only failed to cash once out of seven games total. My bankroll is eyeing 5000€ now.

Nice that you are on a proper upswing now :popeye: !

I'm also enjoying the lockdown in many ways :P. Somehow it increases the freedom of everyday life and I also don't get too stressed with being alone and have enough to do.

As for the raise with T8, it could be good if your opponent is the type to cbet a pair of sevens or twos every time or cbet too much in general or if they are a huge calling station and call with all ace highs. Usually I don't really raising in position with much of my range since you often want to keep bluffs in his range and even though T8 is vulnerable by default to overcards on a ten high board, this board is a pretty dry one. In position you can always make sure a bet goes in if villain checks a later street. Also the jam is a huge overbet and maybe something like KT or QT could work better as all ins. But I guess it can't be too bad.
