Cashing In.

It seems, from the threads I'm reading, that a few members, including me, are losing motivation and looking for ideas to get back on track. It's no secret that at times I struggle with poker and my record keeping is not good to say the least, wether I'm up or down is mostly a matter of my opinion or guesswork. I have, and still am, enjoying the UK and UO Tours sattellite trails, they seem to suit my style of play, so I began wondering if I could convert that to cash play.

I've tried short stacking, multi-tabling, higher and lower stakes, TAG,LAG, Maniac, Nitty, Super Nitty and just about every combination possible but sooner or later I run out of steam and give up, not being able to find my true poker personality, so it's finally time to draw the line and play the way I want to and like playing.

I want to keep a consistency on my sessions so have come up with my own set of guidelines that I think may help. I gained a €10 cash ticket from last month's missions, and to stop me from packing in at the first signs of trouble, something I tend to do far too easily, I've bought four more, so a base of €50. To start with it's going to be 1 session per day played like a €10 tournament buy in, when it's gone I've lost or when I double up I've won. I'm hoping this keeps me focused on a predetermined objective and stops me tilting off too many buy ins or quitting with a small profit when I should continue.

I was going to post this yesterday but forgot, so started today with a nice win.

DAY 1.

The hand played itself, utg raised, I 3bet, utg called. I bet the flop,a raise, I re-raised, all in, I called.

Time:        0.41

Hands:         51

Flops:             9

Profit:     11.17

I feel logging my results in public, as many others do, is going to keep me committed to the project rather than having a fresh start everytime it goes wrong.

Fingers Crossed. :Wonder:

DAY 2.

A much tougher session today.

45 minutes in and a horribly played hand left me down but not quite out.

629211994_Screenshot(1512).thumb.png.a55ae2159b535fd8cb00de762499371f.png

25 minutes later with a combination of shoving and a bit  lot of luck I'm back in it.

1814719440_Screenshot(1518).thumb.png.db43a3218be17d0e3641905dc9b02593.png

And 6 minutes later I'm done.

1 hour, 15 minutes, 122 hands.

DAY 3.

A tough session today after a great start, 2nd hand.

280702588_Screenshot(1531).thumb.png.abdd793f8b27deb8d9199f9f13d4cabd.png

I then dribbled my stack away with too many loose calls against medium hands, going down to about €7.80 before a late rally.

The session ended after about half an hour of non-action, every raise followed by folds, relieved by an occassional 3bet followed by folds, absolutely no limping by anyone, very nitty, and I felt I didn't want to try exploiting, building a stack 15 cents at a time The table broke up, I was in a small profit so decided to call it a day, a bit of an excuse as it didn't fulfill either of my targets, double up or lose. I've rarely seen tables break at this time, but at least I didn't voluntarily duck out.:Smile:

Running O.K. :Thumbsup:

DAY 5.

A slow start, the first table started 4 handed and broke after 5 hands. 🤣

713512606_Screenshot(1567).thumb.png.215bdc9392a1fdb93dd8f92211b62434.png

2nd table was going OK till I ran QQ into KK after 94 hands. :teardrop:

609982202_Screenshot(1568).thumb.png.209dfbe8b867ad745b32af134518a8a6.png

A few hands later I goy my first AA of the week, sheer bad timing as I could've only reloaded 0.98c from that ticket ( and the object is not to anyway ) and I'm pretty sure villain with top pair would have paid me off. :teardrop:

429083910_Screenshot(1569).thumb.png.d60bd65dcbf46a3cd27fe71d4e908ee6.png

I limped on ( not literally ) for another 160 hands but eventually fell with K10o to AJs. :teardrop:

2h 25m, 225 hands, -€10, but €0.98 returned to my account and still €51.99 to play for. :Thumbsup:

What is your plan if you lose all five buyins?

Hi @Dennis_

Five buy ins is a tiny amount in the long run, so even if I lose all five it wouldn't be a statistically significant number, I'd just start again. I'm doing it this way, slow and steady, to try to force myself to be patient and actually think what I'm doing rather than firing up more tables and button pushing. It can seem very slow at times, but after these 5 (3) tickets are done with I'll just carry on, maybe with some alterations. 😃

DAY 6.

One of the main reasons why you can begin to hate poker. You play ok, do most things right then get hit by variance. I was slightly up then slightly down then get KK for the first time this week.

1704303372_Screenshot(1591).thumb.png.bf84dfbb535f810101e2791db95ada31.png

It's just so tough to handle mentally.

Another ticket bites the dust, 3 days in a row.

On the bright side ( because there's always a bright side ) it will take at least four days to lose the next two tickets. :Rofl:

DAY 7.

A good start.

Hand 3.

2047020901_Screenshot(1603).thumb.png.b5cf4b0ac5e90543b65ae6da7b19076e.png

I played on a bit but then the old survival instinct kicked in and I chickened out with a profit.

1603959905_Screenshot(1603).thumb.png.040c48068b60e39900a0344b4329c882.png

Twenty minutes, 44 hands, €6.38 profit.

How do I stop playing scared? :Wonder:

I always get the feeling, rightly or wrongly, that when I've taken a big pot of someone they immediately try to target me and ramp up the aggression. I know my mental attitude is nowhere near good enough but I'm struggling with it, I always feel the bad beat run is just around the corner.

Therefore that's enough for this week, more or less break even from a very limited amount of play.

@TheStrongMan @Dennis_

I think patience is the absolute key, I'm actually prepared to wait a long time for the right situations to happen, which they do. I have a br to play the 5-10c but thought I'd try to use some tickets to make me more patient in the cash, playing as I have to  in the tourneys. After an hour of tourney play I can't leave if I'm up to 200 bb or down to 30, I have to see it through. It's more of a mental exercise really, and just something to keep me from splashing around too much,

splash GIF

though that can be fun. :Smile:

DAY 8.

An early, and depressing start to the week.

With 2 tickets left I decided to fire up 2 tables, with mixed results. a flopped set of threes looked good till the (of course) river completed villain's  flush, €10 gone before I'd settled in. Instead of closing that table i decided to carry on. Bad move. It lasted another 10 minutes. I made a few euros on the other table, down for the day.

2134902157_Screenshot(1611).png.6ba841547e62adfb211d908387322d2f.png

Time:     1:37

Hands:  178

Loss:     €15.69

It's just the normal cycle I seem to be locked into, win a bit, lose a bit, win a bit, lose a bit more.

My mindset is terrible at the moment but I'm going to play the rest out later on 3 tables, win or lose there's always tomorrow. :Thumbsup:

I know exactly what are u talking about

I play poker as pro for a 10 years, and when i was experimenting with the style, i always lost money

I tryed TAG but it seems dont works for me so i stick to tight aggro

MY gameis based on discipline and then i try to exploit weak players, but careful anytime i was overthinking a hand too much i often made a dumb mistake

So simpliest solution are best most of the time,  strasne but its how it is

DAY 8 RESULTS CONTINUED.

Cash poker sucks.

@GR1ZZL3R  I really FEEL your pain ... main problem is that YOU (me, someone) is playing his best game possible. It brings some joy and several BBs earned :cash: multiple days long. Than it suddenly FLIPs and you start to loosing no matter how to play your hands :scared: For example I earn BI for 3 consecutive days (like you did as well 👍 ) than I had a session when managed to loose it all in matters of seconds (2,3 hands to be precise) ... that SUCKs but there is nothing to do with it -> such a things just happen and difference between winners and loosers is if you are able to manage to accept such a thing and continue play your best game possible or tend to rather 'gamble'/'fear'/etc. instead :geek:

I keep my fingers crossed that you are capable player enough to pass that through :popeye: Wish you a run-good and steel nerves along your adventure(s) 👍

@GR1ZZL3R @MadAdo I will try someday but without min. € 200 or more (only for cash game) I won't go there.

Even missions other than to see a few flops do not encourage me, I would like to spend bonus points on 0.2 €mtt (try to  get higher tickets) and play for fun. I also have a problem here, for 'free-bonus points', I often play them like a total donkey. I have my days, but  relatively few.🤣

edit- can you tell me again how to count these bb / 100?:happyshy:

@pinki  bb / 100 should be as simple as-is :geek:

Take all your BR change -> so let's say you earn 10€ per 1000 hands so far ... if you play NL4 it is like:

(1000c / 4c) for overall 'profit-BR change' / BLINDs per your session(s) -> so 250 -> divide per 100s to get what you looking for -> 250/10 => 25BB/100

If you play NL10 it is similar:

(1000c / 10c) / 10 = 10BB/100

Rule of thumb -> 25(BB/100) x 4c = 100c (1€) as well as 10(BB/100) x 10c = 100c (1€)

Hope it is clear now ? 🤫

@pinki  there is also much more straight-forward (ELEGANT) way how to calculate it 🤫

Keep it as simple as possible: let's normalize your number of hands firstly 👍

So just some real example: 27,39€ within 15208 hands

We should calculate 'winnings' per 100 hands like this: ( 27,39€ / 15208 ) * 100 = 18c

Now take your 'stake' (value of BB if you want) and let's divide:

NL4 -> 18 / 4 = 4.5BB/100

NL10 -> 18 / 10 = 1.8BB/100

Hope that this approach is even more understandable to everyone interested-in :cash:

EDIT: so basically the receipt is as follows

1) normalize BR change per 100 hands

2) divide per stake you play those hands and achieve that BR change

3) repeat!

@MadAdo @pinki

As I have said before, when I hit a losing streak I just can't seem to halt the slide, and yesterday was no different. The really annoying thing to me seems to be that when anyone else is drawing to a flush or straight they get there and I lose hands where I'm so far ahead to start with, but when I'm drawing I never get there. This is absolutely not selective memory, I'm going back and checking the hands after the session.

Three times in 20 minutes I flopped an OESD and FD, no joy, flopped two sets, both beaten by the flush, two pairs twice, both beaten, and a few nut flush draws, only one hitting, while my opponents successfully collected straights and flushes, seemingly at will. It was a bad session. :waterfall:

I'll leave that there, I'm not going to post loads of hands where I was unlucky, this just deepens the gloom and is in the past, nothing to be done. Funilly, or annoyingly, as I bid my last ticket goodbye, with €1.76 returned to my account, messages popped up to say I had cleared my last bonus step from the Xmas promo, (shows how little I play) and had recieved a €6 cash ticket. 🤣 Just what I've always wanted. With nothing better to do I had a short session at 2-4c.

2052601861_Screenshot(1631).png.539d93a58ecc3829692bd7e958fa86f2.png

It's a start on the long road back.👍

I also played the UK €100 freeroll, won it and collected 3 x €5 tickets, 😃 one of my horse selections won, profit for the day, 😃 (I'm not tipping anymore for a while till I sort my stats out)  and won a few euros on the roulette tables. 😃 First round of the Daily Hot Bets lost.:teardrop:

It's back to the UK and UO Tour satties, messing around here and there for a while on the cash, horses, football, roulette etc to keep me busy, but I will try again before too long, it's just an itch that has to be scratched.

Hi @Dennis_

I probably don't study as much as I should, (I'm a bit older than the average player and it's more of an intellectual exercise with me rather than a career path) have read loads in the past on micro stakes but now only read or watch 3-4 hours per week, if that. As I said I fill my time with many other interests as well so poker is not top of the list, just one of many ways to keep me involved and not just vegetating.

I do play NL4 more than any, and don't downswing often there, it just seems I run bad every time I try higher. That's why I'm trying to keep a check on my results and using the tickets was a fairly easy way to do that.

It seems I'm not the only one swinging at the moment , it appears to be a recurring theme in quite a few threads, and of course Phil Galfond has a bigger problem than me so I'll try not to moan too much.

Won today on the 2-4c ticket, 2/4 horses won, more profit on the roulette, so it's never all bad. 👍

@GR1ZZL3R Have you had enough time for sleep, excersize and social life? Maybe if you are tilting and running bad it's worth taking a break and only returning to the tables when you are feeling more sharp and poker is more enjoyable again?

@MadAdo @pinki Regarding the BB/100 discussion it's also worth remembering that you need quite a big sample if you want accurate BB/100 figures. Without a big sample it's kinda useless to really focus too much on BB/100 because variance masks the real value. :D
