35€ to 1000€ Challenge - It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop

Hey guys,

My name is Raul, I'm 28 and I live in Romania. I was playing poker for 6 years on and off, mainly cashgames up to 100NL. This year I started working in marketing and some personal projects. I didn't play poker this year and I was really missing it so I thought I can fit 2 hours/day in my schedule to play some poker too.

The plan is to have fun and challenge myself to build a bankroll. I think the most difficult part will be to remain disciplined and consistent.

BRM

I will play with an aggressive bankroll management, move up in stakes at 15BI for the upper limit, and moving down when I’m left with 10 BI, so kind of a 5BI shot strategy.

Until 150€, I will play 4NL

At 150€, I will play NL10, if losing, stop at 100€ and move down to NL4.

At 375€, move up to NL25, if losing stop at 250€ and move down to NL10.

And up until 1000€ keep playing NL25

Playing Strategy

Always when playing poker, you need to know the rake structure!!! Here is the rake structure for unibet at cash games.

RakeStrucutre.PNG.b26e94c1473cfa991989ea7c99606fd7.PNG

At NL4 and NL10 the rake % is smaller so I can play a little bit wider, but after NL25, I will need to get rid of the close spots, the BE ones because it’s simply not worth it with the rake being 5%. There are a lot of adjustments I need to make, I can’t write them all here but to point out a few : At NL4-NL10 I can defend wider vs 3bets, I can open/call any pairs from any position. At 25NL I will not defend wider vs 3bets especially OOP, and I will not open 22-66 from UTG.

I will shift my strategy accordingly to the tendencies of the villains, but as a guideline I will just try to value bet as much as possible, almost never slowplay and try to avoid getting into high variance - break even situations. The field is so good that I don’t need to get into the high variance close spots, I can wait better opportunities.

Rules, goals and habits

Never play longer sessions than 2 hours.( even if I have whales at tables, sit out and just walk around the room 5 minutes, do anything to refresh a little bit and keep your blood moving)

Try not to spew, don’t get into bad situations

Study a little bit of strategy daily ( 30 minutes or more). It helps a lot even if you already know the content you are studying, but refreshing and reenforcing them makes you play better.

Play at least 5x2 hours = 10 hours/week.

Respect the bankroll management.

Don’t let tilt affect you, keep your focus on the long run and making the best decisions even if losing. Don’t be results oriented.

I will try to post after every day I grind, maybe post some hands if they are interesting, post the actual bankroll even if normally I try not to look at the balance daily because I saw I play better if I don’t constantly know if I’m up or down on the short term.

After 3.5 hours of playing I am up 27.44€

For the future I’m looking forward to play some live poker, Unibet Open is something I absolutely love and I will try to play some satellites to qualify.

If you have any questions just ask, and any feedback is well appreciated.

Good Luck to you all, crush the tables :Popeye:

Thank you guys for the good wishes !!! @YlarP @cris1285 @Purps

I've played much more than planned today, because I'm not sure if I can play this weekend, I will be on a mini vacation. The second session was a disaster, I was down 6 or 7 BI at one moment, lost every flip, lost 200bb pot with full in 3bet pot, but I've managed to win back some BI's. A mistake I've made is that I've been playing 8 tables, way too many. As a rule I will add maximum of 4-6 tables, depending how focused I can be.

Another horrible session, lost a lot of all in with 70% + but that’s part of poker. I’m glad I had some good fishes and managed to control the losses. I can't wait to crush the tables when I'll run decent 🆒:popeye:

I’ve played another 2 hour session and this is the bankroll I’m currently at:

Hello guys,

I didn't played poker this weekend, I was on a mini vacation, but I've played yesterday. I've placed 3rd in a freeroll, lost €22 on a sports bet ( I had a nice promotion if I bet on Romania U21, lost the bet unfortunately). I also won 1000 Bonus Points ( equivalent of €10) in this promotion https://www.unibetcommunity.com/t5/Sports-Promotions/Horse-Racing-Competition-by-CharismaMan/td-p/207470/page/410

My current bankroll looks like this:

Br-25Jun.PNG.9c4491e7d9d37dd7183e09fd47b88188.PNG

+1150 bonus points, I think I will try to transform this into money ASAP, to climb faster in stakes.

Good luck to all of you guys !!! :Popeye:

PS: I will try to play daily to get the 5 keys for the ongoing poker promotion

After 1.5h of grinding, I've played the 1100 bonus points, I've figured the fastest way to transform to cash is via HU SNGs, I've played 11 €1 SNG to reduce variance, ended up winning 7 out of 11.

Cash game went pretty well too, this is the actual bankroll :d

I'm very glad that in 6 days I've managed to get the bankroll from 35 to 100 ( 6 days but I've played only 4 out of 6).

€50 more and I'll be able to take a 5BI shot at NL10.

Good Luck to you all!!!

PS: I've used 10 bronze keys so far, won only a 1 cent freeroll ticket. Did you guys get any big wins from the keys?

Hi guys,

I've played another session, got the 5 keys, used them, no luck again, I couldn't make it past the second level.

I'm very pleased with my play, I've made some good adjustments IMO and I can't wait to get to €150 to move up to NL10.

My current bankroll is:

I've played 1.5h this morning, went ok, even though I lost a 200bb pot all in turn vs 2 outs.

I have a hand where I'm not sure I made the best decision.

5 Players at the table:

Hero(CO €5.4)A♥️J♥️ Opens to 0.12, BU(€3.35) Calls, SB fold, BB fold.

Flop (0.29) : 5♣️T♣️J♦️

Hero Bet 0.22, BU Raises to 0.95, Hero All-in

The question is, what to do here vs a raise?

He was new at the table, had 85bb so I don't think he is a reg, I block J wich is good because I block JT combos, and I don't block any FD card. I was thinking that here is better to shove with AJ than QQ, because I block a J from his 2 pairs value hands.

Feel free to comment on the hand or ask me anything, any feedback is wellcome.

Good luck to you all !!!:Popeye:

I've played another 1h session, went ok, nothing special.

I got 2 hands to show you:

h1: 4 Playets:

CO(€3.8) Opens to 0.12, Hero SB(€7.2) A:Spades:K:Hearts: 3Bet to 0.44, CO calls

Flop(0.9) : 2:Diamonds:6:Hearts:Q:Spades:

Hero bet 0.47, CO calls

Turn(1.82) : T:Hearts: Hero bet 0.91, CO fold

Here I expect him to set mine with almost any pocket pair preflop, and I don't see him folding on a Q62 rainbow flop IP. I decide to bluff him off his pocket pairs, especially that OTT I have a GS too.

H2: 6 players

Hero MP(€4.55) Open J:Diamonds:J:Hearts: to 0.12, BU(€4) Call, SB call, BB(€4.7) Squeeze to 0.62, Hero call, BU call

Flop(1.9): 9:Spades:6:Diamonds:2:Diamonds:

BB bet 0.68, Hero fold, BU calls

Turn(3.39): 8:Diamonds:

BB check, BU check

River(3.39): 3:Diamonds:

Bb check, BU check

BB is a reg, BU too, preflop I don't really like stacking off with JJ, in besc case scenario I have a flip, most likely I'm behind so I choose to call.

On the flop, I don't really expect BB to bluff 3way OOP with that sizing, I still have BU who is after me who can play a pocket pair exactly like that ( call to my open, and call to squeeze after I call too). So, if BB don't bluff too much, and BU can have any sets on this flop, I choose to fold.

Please leave any feedback, I want to discuss poker hands or answer any of your questions, so don't be shy.

Hi guys,

Yesterday I've played 2 small sessions, managed to get the BR to €150 🆒

This morning I've played 1h of NL10, 5BI shot as stated in the first post, unfortunately I've started by losing 3 Buy Ins, very unlucky. 2 of them were lost with AK vs 8T and 9T all-ins pre flop lol, nice moment to run bad 🤣🤣🤣

I've managed to win back the lost money, the tables were very soft, and ended up with a very small profit too 🤣

  • 3 months later...

Hi guys,

I didn't made any update in months, I had no time to play the projected volume of ~2 hours a day. I've only played a little bit here and there, managed to get my bankroll up for the NL25 shot.

The field is very good, I had some ups and downs but now my BR is at 508.76 and I also got a ~25E cash ticket almost cleared.

Fell free to comment, start discussions. Let me know guys if you playing cash games, we can talk more, exchange ideas.

The spreadsheet was not updated in months, but I want to get back the habit of tracking the sessions.

Good luck to you all, and stay tuned. Very HappyPopeyeCool

@psrquack wrote:

Nice progress. Btw what is your opinion about the monthly missions? Are there worth to grind for a cash game ticket for players who aren't familiar to other stuffs (sng, hexapro)?

@psrquack If you play small stakes like NL4, NL10 you can do them for sure, at upper stakes you might better just grind at your stake for a better hourly rate. But if you want to have fun, and try out new things, they are OK. You get to play a little bit of hexapro, some SNG, omaha flops, MTTS. It's a nice way to spend the time if you are bored, I enjoy doing the missions.
