2019 - Success or bust has never been more finely balanced

Day 5

Probably one of the most stress free sessions I've ever had on stream at the end there.  I had a tough start to the day, had to battle one or two aggressive regs and I couldn't get any decent cards to play back with, then whenever I had something half decent I was getting coolered.  Once I got that out of the way I seemed to play recreationals all night, I was winning flip after flip, getting mostly coolers in my favour and everything was pretty smooth sailing.  @GR1ZZL3R even commented that I was laughing and joking on stream, probably a first! 🤣

Results

9 games at €25s, 5 wins, €17.50 profit, 7.8% ROI

91 games at €50s, 59 wins, €1173 profit, 25.8% ROI

Total - €1190.50 profit

Just heard you say on stream that u only need to make 2k/month to match your net accountant salary.

But dont you need to pay taxes on your poker winnings aswell?

In Belgium, gambling etc is free of taxes, unless it is your only/main source of income!

Tax free in the UK!

@Brocky awesome day man, watched a little bit of the sun running on stream :)

Must feel awesome to get off to such a great start!

Hopefully it can continue all year, should be established at the 50s and shotting the 100s in no time, can't wait to see it!

Really impressive results @Brocky . And even cooler that you wont get taxed on it.

Keep it up and you'll never have to "work" a day in your life again.

I really wonder who the people are who lose so much money on poker and keep playing. Or is there a permanent influx of new players who blow a couple hundred bucks and never return? :O

@UAC Thanks for tuning in mate, I will definitely take shots whenever I can, think of those challenge points <3

@Silver1 Love it! #2019printing.

@TDW I do play a lot of the same names day in day out, no idea where their income is coming from if I'm honest.

@DoktorAvalanche Thanks mate, hopefully you'll be able to join in the chat in the next stream!

Time waits for no man, up and back at the grind again.  Will be streaming shortly as well but the games are dead at the moment so no point just yet.  Another big day coming up, may splash around in the Supernova tourney or a few others tonight as well.  Run good all <3

Day 6

Really lazy day from me, only managed 67 games, not sure why as I was feeling motivated this morning and didn't run bad today.  Going to have to put in a big grind tomorrow to finish the week strong.  100s shot went well to begin with but tailed off towards the end, still made a couple of buy ins though.

Results

50 games at 50s, 29 wins, €313 profit, 12.5% ROI

17 games at 100s, 10 wins, €240 profit, 14.1% ROI

Total = €553 profit

Year to date:

Current total/Needed to hit goal

705/600 games

+€3,531.50/€1,200 profit

14.3%/8% ROI

Another good day when you take initial profit target into consideration.

Couldn't sleep so played a few more 100s with some ok results, small profit but nothing amazing. Can I just say though how hilarious some players on this site are. Not for the first time, I have a reg who is switching between usernames every game we play. It's actually quite insulting that he thinks a reg-like player (which he must perceive me as) is not going to realise that at 4:20am on a Monday morning, where the games are dead and we are the only game above the 25s running that it is obviously the same ❤️♥️❤️ player. Like seriously? He plays exactly the same style with every alias and he sits there thinking he's clever? I'm not even sure why it makes me so angry but I do hope he reads this because he's fooling the square root of nobody. He's terrible as regs go as well, if I had a slightly bigger roll I would sit there 3-4 tabling him until the cows come home, but I don't really fancy a potential 5k downswing, even though I have decent sized bankroll, just not worth it with bills to pay and profit targets to meet.

@Brocky  you are our huge-huge-huge HERO !!! 👍

I think that many of us still DREAM about such a results you are 'damn easily' achieved last days !!! I'm one of them and taking my virtual hat off :cash:

You deserve incredible credit for streaming such a show as most of us (let's say nano-stakes recreational players) could only dreaming of!

I think you looks quite arrogant but I did not take care about it as long as your play really enjoyable ❤️

I could say that during breath-taking watching your stream I most of the time think "yeah, holly-cow is it really easy like that ?" we all know it is NOT!

It is a HUGE difference between watch a 'master play' for really high-stakes (personally all above 4s HU is 'high' for me) and think about 'such easy' AND try it on its own (own money, own mistakes, ...) think you know what I'm talking about.

I wish you all the best, as you really deserve credit for your hard work! You are hero, you are our inspiration, you playing/shows our big-dreams! :popeye: I love your style as it really sometimes looks like 'easy money' (most of us know it is NOT) !!! keep grinding-up and we are looking forward what will come next 😃 :cash: 👍

Nice graph. When you play it seems so easy to dominate the 50 euro field. /html/images/emoticons/Asset22.png

Last night during the stream I also thought to myself a couple of times... Wow this guy really makes it look so easy & you do Mate.

You seem to get into the zone & make it look effortless. I aslo noticed that you don't tilt to much when the river sucks you out or the likes. ( but I think this has to do with the fact that you already knew you were not going to take the hand down, I'll explain why down below. )

The other thing I realized is that you don't follow those hunches that come your way. ( I mean you very good @ following the hunches when it's going to go your way, but following the hunches when it's not favorable for you... not so much...  LOL )

At one stage I couldn't stop laughing cause you would call the hand that he was going to get & saying the whole time during the hand, what you knew he had & how beaten you were & then when he gets the hand that you said he was going to get, saying afterwards "' I knew it, I knew he had a pair of fives or whatever... LOL "'. It happened again & again & again

Keep up the good grind Bruv

Wow, I wasn't expecting to wake up to the messages I have today.  Even though I've spent years of playing to get to the position I'm in today I feel really grateful to be where I'm at after reading the last few posts.

First of all I'm glad you enjoy the stream, it's my first time doing such a thing so I have no idea what people want to see, what they want to hear etc.  I'm completely aware I'm a pretty frustrated poker player in general, I don't know what other people are like when they play online but I think it's super important to vent your frustration so you don't tilt at the table.

I also think confidence/arrogance are needed in poker, especially in heads up games where you're battling a king-of-the-hill style lobby.  Effectively on Unibet, you cannot share the lobby with anyone like you can on other sites, if a really good player sits, you have to play them until they don't want to play you anymore.  There's definitely a confidence needed in your own game to take on these players.  Furthermore, confidence/arrogance is always overstated when on an upswing.  Sometimes I'm downswinging and I sit here questioning whether I can even beat the 25s anymore!

In terms of the plays that you see, it is mostly just experience.  One of the great things about learning HU is that there are generally a limited number of different spots that appear in game.  I made a ridiculous bluff on stream the other day where I put a guy all in for 200 more chips when the pot was like 1200 with king high, almost no fold equity and I got him to fold.  It just didn't feel like he has a value hand there very often.  It's impossible to sit here and explain but after playing game after game over the past 10 years you will learn what boards hit villain out of position and as a result I can pick off bluffs a lot easier than an inexperienced player would.

@cris1285 @Nestabear @UAC I appreciate the comments from you guys as well.

Undecided on what to do today, slept pretty poorly as I went to bed so late.  May well take some more shots at the 100s if the games are good <3

Day 7

Nope, don't wanna talk about it.

Started well enough, up 500/600 at one point, went on stream tonight and just lost every all in, played 1 rec who was going crazy every time I had draws (which I wasn't improving with) yet seemed to snap fold every time I had a strong hand.  Lost god knows how many in a row, 8 or 9, at the 100s.  I then just super tiltedly gave myself a 3bi shot at the 200s (would put the account down to 3k if I lose these 3), lose the first game, win the 2nd then just get coolered into AA, AK and lose a flip.  Ran like absolute toilet.  One game we were at 40/80, guy was limping 90% of buttons, I didn't hit a single pair, not one single pair.  The one time I check raised as a bluff he snap jammed.  Ridiculous.

Probably down somewhere around 1k for the day in the end.

I'm still up around 3k for the week I guess as I withdrew 300, back to the 50s tomorrow.  I would estimate this is probably the 10th time on Unibet I've moved up to 100s/200s and just lost all in after all in when it matters.  Put me at the 25s and I'll sit there winning flip after flip but it's the complete opposite after moving up.  Super frustrated but still in a good position for the year.

Failed my tilt goal, completed profit/volume/ROI/stream goals.  Will do graphs tomorrow maybe, they're going to look super horrible now with that downswing though.

Whatever.

Don’t worry man you’re still smashing it and everyone here believes in you. At a lot smaller level I am suffering the same but it’s slightly different for me. Satellites I seem to be running really good overall but all the Sunday events / daily events I’ve entered I have been outdrawn silly ways. And don’t get me started on flush draws. If you’ve got one against me you’re completing. No two ways about it you will make your flush. Oh and bounties. If I’m allin in a bounty just call anything. You’ll win a bounty lol.

It’ll change man. Just so hard to chill and think that when’s it’s going like that. My biggest problem. Just stay out the casino!

@Brocky Keep pushing on mate, your thread is probably the most popular here now and for good reason. Also it is not only because the stakes are higher than all of the others, it is also because of these vents, frustrations, arrogance, shot-taking etc. We are getting a real insight into a professional player, which is what a lot of readers he will likely aspire to be or at least will have at some point.

So, yeah do share graphs, whatever they look like as it is all part of it, plus the fact you're still streaming and reporting here when running bad, tilting, playing higher than you planned is awesome, there is nothing worse than people who just post heaters and skip out all the bad parts because we all know that is BS and see right through it.

I think regarding the 3BI shot at 200s, yeah when tilted it os obviously not the best idea, but at the same time don't beat yourself up about it, you are likely still a winner in a lot of games there and also you have had some amazing results at the start of the new year, so taking shots is not bad, just (imo) try to take them when you are running good and confidence is high.

Finally, I have seen you write about arrogance in here and heard it on the stream too, it seems you may be a little worried about how you are coming across regarding this, I wouldn't worry about it if I was year. You have over a decade of experience playing the game, seems mostly heads up and you have a large sample proving that you are a winner, so knowing that you are one of the best (probably the best)in the pool at 25s and 50s does not make you arrogant.

So yeah, stay confident, stay tilt free and you will clean up mate, looking forward to following along

looking colin firth GIF  A game such as poker can be won or lost on the finest margins, and with it being such a mental game any weapon that can be used effectively has to be utilised. If your attitude makes them more determined to take you down but causes them to play sub-optimally as a result then what's not to like. You're out there with your name in the open and players know if they take you on they're going to have to work for it, that can only be a plus.

Steve Davis, Phil Taylor, Roger Federer, Tiger Woods all had this attitude to some degree and they've had pretty good careers, many opponents were beaten before they turned up, If you keep telling them they can't beat you some of them do start believing it.

The downswing is a blip, you've had a terrific start so your roll should carry you through, forget the graph, get back on the grind and keep crushing.

Thanks @MetalWolf@UAC & @GR1ZZL3R.  I'll probably not respond to every point individually because I'm definitely going to forget what was said but I think it's important to reflect now that I've slept.

I had an interesting chat with @AndreiBN last night which helped me realise that I'm really not disappointed in pushing the run good.  We look at things very differently, he is conservative in his approach to sports betting whereas I am aggressive and believe that you need to move up to maximise profit.  He asked me why I didn't just solely grind the 25s and I explained that I think not only am I capped at what I can make at the 25s, I only need 25% of the ROI at the 100s to be making more money after rakeback.  I then started thinking what I would've made at the 25s over 750 games, probably somewhere around 1.5k, yet I made double that even with a 1k downswing included, how can I be unhappy with that?

I do think one of the biggest things holding people back is they get comfortable in the stakes they're playing.  If you play HUSNG's and you give yourself a 5bi shot at the stake above every now and then, you may just never look back.  I made 41 buy ins at the 50s in just 236 games last week, all because I was prepared to take that opportunity.

I guess the flip side is dealing with the inevitable downswing when it happens.  Mentally it's tough, but I removed myself from the poker lobby last night because sometimes you need to just step away.  Time and sleep are great healers though and I have money in the bank so I'm likely going to give myself 20 more buy ins at the 100s for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, if I lose 20 then it's time to move down and take an honest assessment of why I'm losing 20.  Secondly, those challenge points man.  I'm at 246k already, if I can just play the 100s without going broke for a couple of months I will earn 2-3m points and the rakeback from that alone should keep me at the 100s even with a downswing.  It's like one of those weird scenarios where you need to break through that first barrier (3m points without going busto) to then be set up for a long time.  I counted around 13k rakeback for the 3m points, it would be hard to go broke with an extra 130 buy ins in the bank.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Edit: Can I just say I really appreciate every message I receive on here and Twitch, I definitely wouldn't be as motivated if it wasn't for that.
