It is just something to give you an idea about approximately how long the match will go on.The official statistics are based on when the referee decides to blow the final whistle. If during those 2-3-4 or more additional minutes , something imporant happens ( like one or more substitutions or an injury that takes a couple of minutes before the game resumes ) , it's normal that the original additional minutes to be prolonged. You will never ever , on any sportsbook , find a bet settled on the additional minutes set by the referee on football matches. And "extra-time" is something else, different to " additional time".
