I'm going to play the UK Tour event in Manchester next week! Got a seat from someone who won't play it 😀

Got everything booked last minute. It's going to be great fun, looking forward to seeing @FeelsBadMan@ChapInAChair, @jonny2192@NeriPoker and @DavidP_Unibet again, meet some new people, and hopefully meet Jamie Sykes 😃

And @pirahn ofcourse. I have one more week to practice my dealer skills for the community game 😛

I'm planning to jump into 25NL this month, but first want to get used to the new client, so playing some more 10NL first.

Bankroll up to €916, including a €5 payout for 636th place in last week's winter bootcamp. It also inlcudes a €5 deposit I made last week to be eligible for prizes in the Unibet Open betting competition.

Had a bit of good run in the UK Tour qualifiers, ticket value back up to €175.

Another cashgame hand: 25NL, I'm in the CO with KcJc, Lauren1962 has the button, SayKING is in the BB.

KJcensored.jpg.25a480551d8d48706ce6fd44e1919279.jpg

I river a king-high flush, I have €13,24 behind when facing the shove, so he's putting me all-in for €13,24. Pot is €18 before the shove.

What's the range I'm up against, and is a fold possible?

Could be 5s or 6s because of the call preflop, more likely 6s if there is a river jam.

A6c seems like another calling hand preflop.

AQc is the only probably Ax hand they're going to be sticky on.

They probably had 65 :speechless:

Have you read my blog HERE... It's long isn't it :)

Almost always 65+, if opponent has played poker before. Usually 99 or TT. I would still crying call maybe T6+.. Why are u betting so big on so dry flop?

Edit. Wasnt as big CB, i first thought, but still quite big, given how rarely anyone hitting that flop.

I don't think you're ever good on the river. It's mostly boats. FWIW, I would not be c-betting that flop OOP multiway with anything except maybe boats, trips, small overpairs and combo draws. Even AA plays best as a check-call. KJs is probably better as a check-fold, as you don't have much fold equity and few good barreling cards.

I cbet the flop because it very likely missed everyone and I'm the only one having all pocket pairs in his range, including the big ones. I made it 3/4 pot to discourage overcards from floating and because I'm oop. I find that on 10NL, a lot of people play very conservatively in 3-way pot, and tend to just give up without a good value hand or draw, so I think betting in this spot is profitable.

However, if I use this argument for the flop, I should recognize that the caller likely has a made hand or a straighdraw which came in on the turn, so I shouldn't semibluf the turn.

Indeed. I check-folded my way to 50NL. :)

You really don't need to be putting money in the pot when you have virtually no hand equity or fold equity. Money saved is effectively the same as money won.

You've had some great results recently. Keep up the good work!

Hehe you said playing for chill 400NL at witch oh you little hubba bubba, still nice work, as Iam played home cashgames few years ago it was lots of fun, but at online I play MTT, of course sometimes I can open one table at 4NL just if I have no time for nice mtt session but that doesn't counts as profit it counts as zynga fun :D

Today's youth are getting worse. I was in a church yesterday, when I saw a guy lighting a cigarette from the candle. I was so shocked, that I dropped my beer bottle.

Hi Mathrim, nice journal you've got going here. How do you record number of hands played?

After each month I send an email to support to ask for my cashgame stats on a certain stake. They send me a csv file with flops seen, hands played, profit, rake paid,... for each day of the month.

Sorry to say I'm definitely not coming to this one now as I've bubbled something like 6 of my last 8 finals and completely bricked the others. Looking forward to catching up again next year once the doomswitch is turned off.

IMO you shouldn't reraise in that spot... there are 2 options:

1) your opponent is bluffing and your reraise won't have any meaning as your opponent will fold for sure to your reraise...

2) your opponent picked up a full house and in this case you will just give even more chips to him, so just call as it's tough to fold a straight there (I might Fold to a bigger raise tho as your opponent will have a full house there more times than he will have nothing)

GL at the tables 👍:cash:

Played some 10NL and 25NL. Bankroll went up and down and ended at €904,37, which is about right were it was last time. UK Tour ticket value down to €150.

The more I play in the new client, the more I like it. Once the technical issues some other players have to deal with are solved and some minor visual improvements are made, this is going to be a very good product.

I'm going to pack for Manchester now, in three hours I have a bus to the airport. Looking forward to a fun poker weekend 😀

Just call. With the board pairing, your hand value goes way down. You now have something like the 8th nuts. You can't 3-bet the 8th nuts on the river and get called by worse hands more than half the time. I wouldn't even raise 88. Just 3-bet jam the good boats/quads, call with straights, trips and AQ.

Unibet UK Tour Manchester trip report

I arrived in Manchester on Saturday morning at 7:30 am after a night of traveling with hardly any sleep. I walked around the city a bit and then chilled in the awesome library right in the city centre before getting to the casino to play day 1B. I made the mistake of drinking two beers at noon, which, because of my lack of sleep, made me drunk and tired at the start of the tournament, so my concentration in the first hour was terrible. But after the first hour I recovered and felt in the zone. Here are some interesting hands from early on in which I didn't quite know what the best line was:

  • Hand #1 Blinds are 50/100, effective stack around 25k. I raise to 300 with AKo in MP. Button calls and the flop comes Q T 5. I check, button checks, turn is 8, I check-call a bet of around half pot, river comes 4, I check-fold.
  • Hand #2 Blinds are 50/100. The button raises to 275, small blind calls. I have JJ in the big blind and 3bet to 1000. Button and small bind call. Flop comes 8 7 4 with 2 clubs. Small blind checks, I bet 2000, and button shoves for 10k. I forgot to note what I did
  • Hand #3 Blinds are 75/150, effective stack around 25k. I open TT in MP to 450, btn 3bets me to 1200, sb and I call. Flop comes A Q 8, it checks around, turn comes another A, it checks around again, river is another 8, it checks to the button who bets 3000, sb folds, and I fold.
  • Hand #4 Blinds are 100/200. I accidentaly limp AK in MP (announced my raise too late, so everyone noticed that I wanted to raise), sb calls, bb raises to 600, I 3bet to 2000, sb folds, bb shoves for 12 000 more, I fold.
  • Hand #5 Blinds are 100/200, effective stack around 25k. Utg+1 opens to 600, I call with TT, small blind calls. Flop comes 8 5 4, 2 hearts. The original opener bets 1000, I call, sb folds. Turn is the 7 of hearts. UTG+1 bets 2200, I fold.
  • Hand #6 Blinds are 100/200. I have A5 of clubs on the btn and open to 500, bb calls. Flop is 8 7 6 with 2 diamonds. I cbet 600, bb raises to 1725, I call. Turn is another 8, BB bets 2500 and I fold.

I had an insane run of starting hands in the first five hours: about 6 times AK, at least 3 times JJ, 2 times AA, QQ, AQs, AQo, etc. I doubled up quite soon with AA vs KK. Here are some more hands from that period:

  • Hand #7 Blinds are 150/300. I have AQ of spades in the cutoff, the bb calls. The flop is T 9 8 with two diamonds and one heart. BB donkleads 1200. I fold.
  • Hand #8 Blinds are 300/600, ante 50. I have JJ  utg+2. I open to 1500, btn 3bets to 3200, I call. Flop comes A95 with 2 clubs, I have the J of clubs. I check, button bets 4200, I call. Turn is low club. I check - call a 7400 bet. River is the Q of clubs. He shoves for about 8k, I call. He shows a lower club and I win the pot.

After that hand I became the big stack at the table with over 90k and was able to steal quite a lot of pots. But then it started to go downhill with some lost pots. When I got moved to another table for the last 2 hours of the day, I was completely card dead. I don't think I've seen 1 flop at that table. I ended the day with about 28k, which was good for only 12bb at that moment.

The evening ended with a nice chat and risky walk with Jonny and Pirahn. Coming from a right-driving country where traffic lights work differently, crossing busy English streets trying to follow routined English city people is dangerous :Cheeky:

After a good night of sleep, I started day two with nothing to loose. I didn't have to wait long to get the chips in, it was about the third hand of the day when I got 88 in versus AK, held, and doubled up. During the next level, I shoved twice more and didn't get called so stole the blinds and antes. A little while later, I won another 10bb:

  • Hand #9 Blinds are 1600/3200, ante 400. The high-jack shoves for about 10bb, I have 77 on the button and call. He has QTs and I hold.

After that I had about 100k. In the next level, 3 hands before the break, my downfall came:

  • Hand #10 Blinds are 2000/4000, ante 500. The MP open shoves around 80000, I have JJ on the btn and call. K comes on the board so I lose the pot.
  • Hand #11 Blinds are 2000/4000, ante 500. MP opens to 8000. I have A6 and shove for around 20000, MP calls. MP has A9 and holds.

My bustout came just after the truestorypoker liveblog unleashed a photo of my ugly face onto the world. I guess the pokergods didn't like that. But they can expect a visit from my mom, because she let me know it was a nice picture, although she didn't understand much of the poker lingo on the blog.

After the break, I had a good sweat railing Jonny, the only active community member left in the field. It was nearly bubble time, and he was sitting on a shortstack of slightly under 10bb. Unfortunately he busted one from the bubble after shoving QQ into A7, thereby adding one more mark to his terrible live runbad.

Instead of a community game, Unibet staked us in the €40 bounty side event. It was quite a short run for all of us, which is a shame, because the field seemed quite soft. But as the late Johan Cruijff once said "elknadeelhebzijnvoordeel", which means as much as "each drawback has it's benefit": I was now free to hit the bar! Although I do regret a bit not jumping into a cashgame, this would have been the perfect opportunity for me to complete one of my yearly goals. While drinking I was joined by a duck and a Romanian chatbot for a nice chat about just about everything, from the new Unibet client to world politics, although some cynical souls might argue that the state of both is quite similar. A bit later we were joined by Robin who bought us some beers. And as it goes with a bunch of guys hitting the bar, we discussed and completely solved all of Unibets problems. The client, twitch streams, qualifier structures, event packages, promotions,... We all told Robbin how to run a poker site, I'm sure all our proposals will be included in the next update. By the time we were ready, the main event was 3 handed. We watched it play out, said our goodbyes to the nice Unibet people, and I think it was around 3am when I drunkenly got into bed.

On Monday, since my flight was only in the evening, I visited the Art Gallery and went to the library again. The calm environments were perfect to deal with a slight hangover. The flight and busride home went smoothly, and by 2:30 I was back in my bed in Belgium, satisfied after a fun weekend of poker. Four hours later, at exactly 6:30 am, my alarm clock brutally pulled me back to the daily routine.

Can't wait to jump back into the qualifiers and aim for the next UK Tour!

Great read  It made me feel like I was there :)

Describing the last night sounds like the start of a bad joke, there was an Englishman, A romanian, A belgian and a Dutch man at a bar........

Its sad to be knocked out of these events before the money but the consolation in the Unibet events is there is always company in the form of other community members to help you drink away the sadness :)

Hope to see you at more events.

You can exchange UO tickets again all is unicorns and rainbows in Unibet land.

I really enjoyed your last post . Makes me want to read your whole blog. (I tend to skip blogs with lots of pages in sheer fright!)

Sounds like you all had a brilliant time. Very jealous.

Hope  didn't take you to the nearest chicken joint on your late night walk. That would be really offensive to me as we once shared a special moment doing exactly that!
