blog: from 50€ up

taft

Recommended Posts

Since my Unibet balance is comfortably zero atm (well, 9 cents), I'm going to deposit 50€ and play 4NL and maybe some small tourns (certainly the community league ones). My main goal for the month is to keep doing this and not go donk off everything at the slots/bingo twice a week. I might do a bit of sportsbetting here and there, but really only a tiny bit.

I play on other sites as well, so not sure what volume I'll put in and can't really set concrete monetary goals for this reason, but I need something to motivate me to keep at it, so for this reason, this thread.

I don't expect my progress will be wildly exiting to follow, but posting will keep me diciplined.

I'll do bankroll updates every Sunday, with a small review of how much I managed to play during the week and misc details.

As far as real life, then I'm a 32 yr old female, have a bit of poker experience and recently moved to the countryside so am newly enjoying a lot of fresh air daily. For fellow cat-enthusiasts - we have four cats in the household. :D I will try to refrain from posting pictures of cats though.

Good luck on your challenge! You can ask your cats for some advice along the way. I heard they're very good at analyzing hands.

I debate
Should I smile like everything's good and pretend that life is great
Or should I let the world see the real me and not hide this pain
I tried to be like the rest of y'all, sorry I just can't
I'ma probably die this way

Thank you everyone, for the encouragement. Didn't have time to play yesterday so I'm starting tonight with 50.59€

Disclaimer: huge luckboxer story below, I'm not advocating this behaviour for serious poker players looking for tips :D It's just my story.

The 59 cents is because I decided I'd bingo "a little bit" until I fill my loyalty wheel because it'll sit there tempting me if I don't, and deposited a hundo specifically for this purpose thinking I'd either bust it or run it up and withdraw whatever was surplus of the 50, then got a bit lucky with the minigames, filled the loyalty wheel, hit the jp center for 200 and took a few spins of Toki Time and ended up withdrawing 717€ to leave the 50.59 on for this poker project. Woohoo.

Now I can only hope to run as well at the tables.

You run into that type of luck despite not having the plain decency to post a simple cat pic despite multiple requests... jesus where is the justice around here.

j/k well done and everyone is due some rungood.  Best of luck on your challenge and keep us updated.

Haha, ty

Here's Kissa, he's my favourite, in his chair: 20161010_102402.thumb.jpg.6c5df58d2e98f5a8818e2f397e83dfd2.jpg

Sorry about the picture quality.

As far as the poker, then I've done an hour and half 3 tabling 4NL now total, also registered a 4€ tournament which I busted. Balance at 54.45€

Ugh, slipped up a bit last night. Was doing great, then lost a few big pots I felt were unfair and I guess tilted and ended up taking my 51.40 (not sure about the .40 now but around there) to the slots and got it down to 3.31 before I managed to stop. Played Space Wars, enjoyed it reasonably I guess, but trying NOT to do this kind of stuff is exactly why I started this blog, so major fail there.

Now I'm not sure whether to just replenish the roll with the 48€ I spent at the slot so it's fair regarding the poker or try to run that 3.30 up without replenishing, so it's fair regarding my actual behaviour. I think replenishing would be fine because had I won at the slot I wasn't going to count that as part of the roll anyway and planned to leave just the 51 on regardless.

Also, I fully expect I'll go busto playing with under a buyin for a roll :D So I guess depositing the 48€ is fine. Everyone agree?

If you want to prevent yourself from going to the slots you could try self excluding yourself from the casino for like a month. That will give you plenty of time to focus on only poker.

Thank you for the suggestion  The reason I don't want to self exclude is that I'm trying to teach myself better habits, if I don't have the slots available it'll prevent me from playing slots, sure, but won't really change anything as far as my general capacity for impulse control. I want to be able to be an in environment where I can gamble freely so I can practice self control a bit. I'm thinking I should be able to manage it, although slipping up on the first day is not a good sign.

Yeah, I would agree, do some slots/bingo restriction for a small period of time and start over clean with 50€ - then you can really only focus on poker 👍 😃

Since you're really used to playing slots, it can not be an easy thing to discipline yourself in right away and it is definitely much easier if it is not there to tempt you in the beginning. 😛

Also you should learn to notice your tilt triggers - figure out exactly what is the thing that makes you tilt and as soon as you see it happening, leave the room - take a walk, play with cats etc. It sounds easy, but it's not - this requires actual strength 😃 I would consider getting away from the computer at the right time the only way to control this. Of course you can read up on how other players deal with it, but everyone is different and you can only work this out personally :)

Again, best of luck with this challenge and don't give up! :Satisfied:

Thank you  I think what's mostly tilting me is I get bored and when I'm winning I'm ok with being a bit bored but when I run into unfortunate situations for a couple of buyins in a row AND am already bored with playing as is, I tend to tilt and feel like I want to do something "fun" in stead and then I slot it up. Definitely a great idea to just get away from the computer at that point, it seems like an obvious solution, but somehow I haven't thought of it. Thank you.

I'm a very casual poker player, I play mostly freerolls and max 1€ buy-ins, so I don't know how valuable my input is in this context, but some great multi-table tournaments that combat in-game boredom are Speed (1 min levels) and Ante (only ante increases each level, not blinds) games - you should try them out at least once, but with 1€ buy-in, in case they are not your type of games. There are a few of them in the morning so they can be a good way to start the day with some fast-paced action if you're into that 😃

Maybe you could also try to keep written track of the different game types that you play during the week and how often you get in the money or what games are really boring to you, to see what structure actually works best for you 👍

And of course, it's good that you haven't set any monetary goals yet, it can be really disheartening to see your bankroll go in the wrong direction - but the fact is that before it's gonna go in the right direction, it will probably go in the wrong direction several times - it happens to everyone, because poker is still a luck game, even if you have perfected your skill in it. Just try to accept it and focus on the important things, like what mistakes you usually make in game (I used to have a huge problem with low pairs, that made me want to go all-in, but I've really improved on that lately 👼) and just in general, try to notice little things that you can possibly improve on, like that tilt thing 😃

And of course, we all still need more cat pictures with your blog entries!

Thanks for the suggestions  I might do a few of those, but I think I'll try to stick with the cashgames as much as I can for now, because while it bores me I'm pretty sure I can hold my own in 4NL :D and I just want to see how far I can get with just that until the end of the month or so. The 1 min level tournaments seem like a very gambly option, but for just an euro could be fun to mix in occasionally.

Starting off fresh with 50€ tonight, sorry about the mishap yesterday :D I won't do this again. Will see if any of the cats are feeling like posing for pictures later. :)

Good luck! I can relate to your slip up, although I usually slip up on other poker varietes,

Hope your restart goes well, most important thing is to only use money you can afford to lose then slip ups aside its all good fun i guess, I reccomend setting a deposit limit (i have one myself :) )

Will be keeping a keen eye on your challenge, hope it goes well!
