WuDu Posted November 8 Posted November 8 Guys, I'm thinking about buying a Lidl tablet (OK, not actually from Lidl but a Chinese one off Amazon) and I would like to hear your opinion about it. I recently discovered a nice online source of books and I would like to get into reading a little bit more, especially since most media nowadays is just hot trash. So when it comes to buying a tablet my main use would be to read PDF/epub files in bed before sleeping/while sitting outside. In addition to that I'd like to watch some youtube/rumble, listen to spotify and browse the internet. But that's about it. I'm not planning to play any games/play poker via tablet; I don't want to stream any movies/Netflix (that's why you have a TV); shopping, emails and anything important related will be done through my laptop. Best case scenario would be if I could download Brave, Firefox with ublock origin and Opera with its free VPN as well. That way I could stream spotify via Firefox and youtube via Brave, like I do on my laptop. So in your opinion, what kind of setup do I need for that? Can I get by with a Lidl tablet for round about 70 Euros? Here's one I found so far: I'm assuming the "HD" will be 720p, which is still enough for me. Do I miss something here? We're gonna win on so many levels! We're gonna win, win, win. You're gonna get so tired of winning, you're gonna say: "Mr. President please, we don't wanna win anymore, it's too much!" And I'm gonna say: "I'm sorry, we're gonna keep winning because we're gonna make America great again!"
Livertool Posted November 9 Posted November 9 If it is too good to be true it is Save yourself from losing 70€ and headache. Priceranges must be quite similar between our countries what comes to tech gadgets and if you compare what tablet you can get with 70€ from (somewhat) trusted brands answer is nothing or maybe some 7 inch tablet with 2gb of ram so that should trigger the alarm. If you don't want to spend more then 2nd hand tablet would be my answer to be able to do those things. But minimum of 4 gb of ram for at all smooth experience PS. Opera works well too with youtube imo. 1
Purps Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Read a proper book. With the time already spent in front of a computer screen, I can't even imagine reading a book from any kind of a screen right before going to sleep. Better for your eyes and sleep quality. 2 1
Livertool Posted November 9 Posted November 9 2 hours ago, Purps said: Read a proper book. Problem with proper book is that you have to limit yourself to either to what library is offering or use money to buy it. Dunno either about screen time, what does xtra half an hour mean if you already watch screen most of day. So as i used to agree with you, nowadays really don't find reasoning for it anymore. That being said, if i have an option to read what i want from paper or screen i choose paper but that option is getting more rare every day. 2 1

You often see something like 3 GB + 7 GB being advertized. 7 hours ago, Livertool said: PS. Opera works well too with youtube imo. I'm very happy with Brave as it blocks everything, I'll use Opera as backup in case Brave doesn't work on certain sites. We're gonna win on so many levels! We're gonna win, win, win. I would just consider it 3gb, whatever that 7gb does (if anything) is another thing but most certainly it ain't the same as having 10gb as hardware.

Livertool Posted November 9 Posted November 9 21 minutes ago, WuDu said: But from your perspective, 4 GB of physical RAM would be enough? Yeah, ofc the more the better but if those things you wrote is all you do then 4gb imo is enough. Even 2gb can handle everything there individually and you are able to do some light things simultanously (like listening spotify while playing unibet poker) but if you switch between tasks or try to multitask heavier things, tasks on the background tend to close down and have to be loaded again. So min 4gb is way to go. 1

Totally correct, 5 hours ago, Livertool said: Dunno either about screen time, what does xtra half an hour mean if you already watch screen most of day. Mmmmm. "I'm doing something that's bad for me, I know, I'll do some more!" Genius! 3 hours ago, WuDu said: Grandpa doesn't care about the environment it seems... I thought you didn't believe in climate change so what do you care about the environment? The actual e-readers, Kindle etc are the best purely for reading, but even their settings are not as good for your eyes as natural light, you shouldn't be watching any sort of screen for at least an hour before sleep. I've gone back to proper books, there's nothing better. I've also been through the whole buying on the cheap thing, you don't ever seem to get value from unknown names and will be more likely buying another in a month or two. If you insist on a reader why not go for one of the official refurbished known brands, NOT refurbished from Amazon (scams.) 1 "It turns out that 75% of all poker players think they play better than the other 75%."

Yeah, i ain't afraid of nonsense whether it is of flu killing me or using my eyes wearing them out. It don't affect my sleeping either so don't see the problem. Naturally if it ain't for someone then it ain't. Funny how you can hang around here, play poker, watch tv if you are afraid of losing sight, even more genius Having said that even if i would be worried of screen time, i also drink alcohol, eat red meat etc which probly also are "bad for me" but as the feel good part overcomes the possible negatives then it is +ev to me. 1

Did as @Livertool suggested and currently there's a Samsung Galaxy A9 (9 inch) with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB space available for 111 Euro. Lenovo has something similar for around 92 Euro with 3 GB and 32 GB. 46 minutes ago, GR1ZZL3R said: I've also been through the whole buying on the cheap thing, you don't ever seem to get value from unknown names and will be more likely buying another in a month or two I'd usually agree with this statement, but the question is how much are you paying for the brand name? In the end, they all come from China anyway. That's why I'm looking for input here. As I mentioned, this wouldn't be my go to device, so I don't need a gazillion apps already being installed and other stuff I don't use anyway. I usually try to avoid amazon and this bald weasel, but the good thing is that it's pretty uncomplicated to return the product in case it's just trash. 14 minutes ago, Livertool said: It don't affect my sleeping either so don't see the problem Some people are effected, some are not. I would also go for Samsung too rather than Lenovo, not only for bigger ram but also for storage. 32 is quite small and android takes huge chunk of it on its own. With black friday coming at end of month you could still squeeze some money off from it but do you feel lucky punk? PS. In Proshop.fi you can find that Samsung on sale for 99€ while proshop.de the price is 199€. And they say Finland is expensive compared to Germany

Not sure how you'll wear your eyes out if you used proper lighting etc. Point out where I say I'm afraid of losing my sight genius! I'm more concerned with the effects on sleep, if that doesn't affect you then fine. 12 hours ago, Livertool said: Yeah, i ain't afraid of nonsense whether it is of flu killing me 12 hours ago, Livertool said: i also drink alcohol, eat red meat etc Nothing whatsoever to do with the current conversation but only shows what a big brave soldier you are. 12 hours ago, WuDu said: Man made climate change = hoax. There is actually a huge debate to be had on electronics and the environment, I won't give an opinion as you'd both probably automatically jump in the opposite direction. As for the tablet the best idea is to do your research and shop around, I would't put you off the Samsung, I always used to buy them in the past and no bad experiences. Thou you can be mistaken for my great reading abilities at poker tables that i can also read everyone minds here is spoiler for you:: i can't So if you were talking about sleep factor you can easily write, right? If i may suggest, you can reduce your screentime and way more than half an hour cause quite obviously you are just bored and frustrated for lack of interaction and someone to talk to when you feel like you have to jump in just to be cute and wiseman when all you do is look like retarded.
GR1ZZL3R Posted November 10 Posted November 10 And they wonder why forums are dying. I can see that before long this forum will consist of Dumb and Dumber name calling each other about anything and everything because they'll have no-one else to name call and ridicule, having driven everyone else away by simply ignoring reasoned discussion and beating everyone who doesn't agree with them into submission. Well played, you win again. Arguments that Dumb and Dumber have won by reasoned logic and debating skill... ...no, I can't think of any either. "It turns out that 75% of all poker players think they play better than the other 75%."
Livertool Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Classic. First you come in to run your mouth and when duck bites back you are victim.
GR1ZZL3R Posted November 10 Posted November 10 Even classier from you, don't understand math, then not understanding the written word so resort to name calling. When someone decides to disengage for name calling, (I didn't say you were calling me names but you obviously missed that,) you decide that's not the reason and make up your own, proving once again you may be able to read but have great difficulty in comprehending. I'll continue to shop around a little as I'm currently torn here. So if someone of you sees a nice offer, feel free to post it here. Obviously you cannot trust amazon reviews if they're insanely positive. From my experience, amazon reviewers are either retarded or bought, likely both. We're gonna win on so many levels! For example if someone is whining about tablet missing nfc that is quite useless thing to have in tablet and you can check those things before buying device rather than whine afterwards.
