MoreTBC
Why can you not get a ticket this week? You only need to see 20 flops on 5 days out of the week. Even if you have played no cash so far you could clear the requirements if you start today. Have you read my blog HERE... SkilfulPoker
Thanks guys! The reason I'm not in contention is because my bankroll is less than a euro moment, and I made what seemed to be the smart move about 3 weeks ago of setting a deposit limit... which is now... well limiting the amount I can deposit, don't you just love hate it when a plan comes together 🤣Never mind, at least I have the Unibet Bucharest Satellite and the Community Freeroll to look forward to this weekend :Thumbsup:

I sure that we (the tennis topic guys) could give you some nice tennis tips. I know that's gamble but double up that BR to the requested 2 euros isn't a mission impossible and a do or die challenge would be fun and the other side with that amount is very difficult playing poker. SkilfulPoker
ha thanks so kind of you :)In fact the break is doing me good i think, after my painful exit from the 888 live with my full house on the river i havent played any poker, and it's not the worst thing that could have happened to me. Surprising just how much free time can vanish when you love the game, have started studying a CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) course this week, which I'd never have had time for before ha!So a little regret I couldn't cash in on the juicy 25nl ticket, but not the end of the world :D I'm more interested in reading your story of how you manage to build yours up next month :cash:
SkilfulPoker
Hey all, hope your'e doing great.3.30pm on a Saturday and I'm looking forward to some poker this evening.Recently I took on some work, my main skill set is web design and social media marketing, and i've started some social media marketing work lately with a poker related company which is kind of nice. As it links up my passion for the game, with something which will actually bring some money in, as poker doesn't have a great track record of doing that for me of late, haha. It's been quite interesting checking out the social media signals lately, if you aren't into social media, I really suggest you get an account and start following some people in the poker world, it's a great way of keeping up to date and really entertaining if you are into poker. It's just one client but none the less great to have, since I am self employed, which while I wouldn't change for the world if I could help it, when you don't have much on, you do have to watch the finances a bit. The luxury of it though is I make my own schedule, organise my own time, and am answerable to myself (and the people that I'm working for) only which is kind of nice. I've worked in very hierarchicial settings before and am pleased to have left that behind. My dog hurt his leg the other day =( came home and he was limping, took him to the vetinary surgeon (the more common form of that name isn't allowed in the forum filter for some reason) the next day and turns out he has some ligament damage in his knee. They said to keep him rested and it might get better, or he might have to have an operation.Have you ever tried keeping a westie (west highland terrier) rested? Every time the door knocks he wants to jump through it... He is probabally pretty shocked at all of this, as he's been carried up and down the stairs, so thinks he must have hit some kind of dog luxury parrallel universe where humans wait on dogs , haha. But the good news is it seems to be working, he is now walking on his bad leg a bit, even if he is still a bit limpy, hopefully in another few days he'll be as a fit as a fiddle!I felt like making this update today because there's a distinct air of poker about here tonight in the atmosphere.I haven't played for about a week, and am looking forward very much to the Community Freeroll tonight, followed by the Bucharest Satellite. I'm going to wind up work for the night soon, and watch some poker related training videos to get me in the right mindset. Will update any noteworthy hands in my blog later.Hope you are all having a nice weekend, and are winning the battle of the felt if you're playing! SkilfulPoker
Hey all, hope you're doing good.Alot has happened since my last update. In my last update I had mentioned how I had not played poker for a week and was looking forward to the superuser Bucharest SNG and the community freeroll. Well the break seems to have done me good as I was fortunate enough to take the bucharast SNG down, and now will be jetting off to Bucharest at the start of Decemeber to experience my first Unibet Open atmosphere and Romania for the first time in my life! :)The package I was super fortunate to win, thanks to the Unibet Community, includes buy-ins into either a 100 + 100 bounty MTT, or a 100 mtt and a 100 sat to the main event. I'm going to opt for the satellite and the 100 MTT because I think it will be quite cool to play the live satellite to the main event.I've also orded my Unibet hoody courtesy of the great community offer that anyone that attends Bucharest from the community is eligible to ask for a hoody which will be emlazened with the unibet logo and our alias here, pretty neat. Finally I've signed up for the 'get to know everyone' SNG, that Unibet_Dave is organising and would be lying if I didn't admit I'm looking forward to that as much as all the other events on offer! So we have a little under 1 month to go, and I have big plans for my game in that time. My basic plan is to try to make about 1000 euros profit this month which will mean I can buy into the main event. I've thought a bit about how I can do that... and have come up with what I think is likely my best plan. Before I go on I should mention the fact that I've never profited over the course of a month in my life playing poker! I've had the odd win here or there, but always lost more than I've made, so this is going to be a challenge indeed. The hardest part of this challenge is going to be mindset. Particularly playing solid in spite of losing sessions etc, which is where I've always fell down before. But losing sessions are a part of playing winning poker, so you either manage them well, or you lose your money, there's no real in between. So yes this is going to be quite challenging but I am up for the challenge, and what greater motivation than working towards playing the main event in 4 weeks time.My plan is to focus mainly on SNGs, with the odd cash mixed in when the traffic is low. My starting bankroll which I deposited today is:So far today I've played 18 5man 10 euro SNG's, and about 1 hour of 10nl cash... and my closing bankroll is...So a whole 10 euros profit ha.I count this as a victory though, because i wanted to continue and make more profit but stopped myself, knowing i shouldn't let my bankroll or my results in any session affect my play too much, so that was cool. One of the things I'm going to be doing for the SNG's over the next while is working on really getting clear on my push/fold ranges, I've also invested in joining a training site to get some videos to watch to help me improve as I play. Another reason I picked SNG's is i think the push/fold and ICM understandings will be a big help if I manage to get to any final tables while I'm out in Bucharest :DMy main goal for the rest of the month is not to tilt or start spewing my bankroll away. If I can do that, I'll be super happy, come the end of the month.Well I should say... super happier... as I'm already super happy to be going to Bucharest in December. :Happyshy:Off to watch a strategy video now, good luck anyone still trying to secure their seat in Bucharest, especially if you are playing in the next community satellite in about 15 hours time! Ametrine
Best of luck with your 1k challenge (you can do it!) and I really believe that you can catch your spewing/tilting behaviour early on now, because you have set it as a main goal in your mind 👍 😆

GotWhatItTakes
Good luck ! What helped me a lot when grinding SNGs, was to hide your balance status. If you don´t know whether you are up or down, you can play your best game. There is a lot of variance in SNGs, so you might prepare for downswings of at least 10 buyins. I wish you some rungood and hope you can reach your goal. NO MORE HALF-MEASURES.

Not a good mindset I know, but for years I have just been unable to handle losing very well when I start having losing sessions, and look forward with a fair bit of trepidation to the inevitable losing session(s). I feel like telling myself just to suck it up, and get on with it...I played some 10nl, and got the bankroll to 200 euros \o/ I then decided to take a shot at 25nl, as there was no traffic in the 10 SNGs.I fired up a previous episode of UhlenPoker Twitch to put in me in the right mindset, watched it for half hour then hit the tables. Things went very well. I was catching the correct spots to bluff, getting some nice value from a station or two and picking off the odd bluff which was nice.+5 stacks later, and we've almost doubled the bankroll since yesterday.Now... given my mortal fear of what is likely to happen if i continue and start losing , I have seriously been considering withdrawing my bankroll and entering a live MTT (which is running tomorrow) which has a £100 buy-in and £28k guarantee.Usually basic bankroll management would say it's way more sensible to continue playing online where I can play without completely disregarding bankroll management, but it's a bit more complicated an equation in my case, because it's not so cut and dry, given I've never managed to handle losing online over the space of a day or 2 before, in 5 years! and my mental game issues are about 80% better when I play live, it might actually be worth me taking the shot at the live mtt. If I final table it, there's a good chance I'll earn my buy-in for the Unibet Open, and if I cash it i'll be well on my way.On the downside... It will require over a third of my bankroll. It's kind of close in my own mind to be honest the Expected Value of trying to play solid poker online for a month, or taking this shot. So I'm a little undecided. Thought I'd share my quandary with you.Jared Tendler talks about not being overconfident, and the good news is I guess for once I am not super confident (I tend to be over confident in my game alot of time!).Given overconfidece or underconfidence, I think underconfidence is more healthy for my game at the moment, but of course finding a sweet spot in the middle would be just great.I wanted to play some poker at the end of my session but felt I was getting a bit tired so moved all the way down to 1 euro headsup sngs. Wow what a cool feeling, it was so different to anything I'm used to experiencing when I play online. 300 odd buyins , really was so effortless to just play your game and not care about the results, i made about a euro, but the most interesting part was the experience. I thought how awesome would it be to have a 300k bankroll, and be able to do that with 1k games. Ha, maybe one day :DAnyway - this is where we are at, on the campaign trail to get some funds for the Unibet Open!Bankroll:and I have a decision to make, to continue online, or to take a shot at the live MTT. Let me know your thoughts, I'll be sure to factor them into my decision! But we are on the up! Big progress made in last 24 hours, now I just got to decide best way to continue it!p.s. not long until the second satellite, good luck if you're playing! MoreTBC
Do you think you have a decent chance of cashing the live event?Would you be comfortable dropping down to €4 SNGs if it didn't go your way in the live event? If yes to both, play live event. If no to either, stick to online :) Have you read my blog HERE... It's long isn't it :)
Ametrine
I would choose the live MTT for sure - useful experience for Bucharest preparation and it's only 1/3 of your current bankroll, which means you would basically just have a fresh start at 1k challenge. Of course the decision is yours to make :)

SkilfulPoker
Thanks for the comments all, seems like i'm edging towards the live MTT at the moment.@MoreTBC wrote:Do you think you have a decent chance of cashing the live event?Would you be comfortable dropping down to €4 SNGs if it didn't go your way in the live event? If yes to both, play live event. If no to either, stick to online :)1) hmm good questions and I'm kind of unsure to both of these. I've never cashed a decent live mtt before, but I do feel confident that I can cash a decent structure. The last live mtt I played was at the same casino and was an £800 buy in (which I satellited into for £100), and I managed to play this for 6 hours before getting knocked out when I rivered a full house. I think I have an OK chance of cashing, not sure if I'd call it decent :D2) Not sure!@GotWhatItTakes wrote:Does the live event have a good structure? Are there many bad players? Magicadil
Depends how much that 1/3 means to you because you dont want to end up playing more passive than usual. If I were you I would play the live MTT but play ultra aggresive. Unconvential style. Since its a big part of your roll consider it a loss before you sit down to reduce the pressure. You want to 3bet a lot early on/try to steal as many pots as possible before gradually playing more conservative. I debateShould I smile like everything's good and pretend that life is greatOr should I let the world see the real me and not hide this painI tried to be like the rest of y'all, sorry I just can'tI'ma probably die this way
SkilfulPoker
OK this is kind of long!Well there is some positive news and some unpositive news... (negative is such a negative word)...The unpositive news, is I lost my bankroll (300 euros) without even getting a ticket to the live mtt. I ended up losing a bit in 25 euro games then sports betting and lost 4 straight sports bets. What is even more annoying is the first bet I placed for £50... was on tennis, and the guy I backed was a break down in the first set and priced at 8-1 i watched him play and thought he had a decent chance so placed the bet in play... he lost the first set but came back and won the second set, then went a break down in the third... to cut a long story short with a few games left I traded out for a £30 loss... Would you believe it no sooner had i traded out, he broke back, then broke again... and ended up winning it.. goodbye £400 profit! Well needless to say there were a few more bets after this and there went my 300 euros.I actually was chatting to a friend throughout all the bets, and he was watching them too, every one was a reasonable bet it seemed at the start but they just went down hill as soon as i placed a bet. Anyway. Enough talking about bets. But felt I should at least update where my 300 euros vanished too...The next day was time for some thinking... My thought process went something like this...You have been lucky enough to win a trip to Romania and some poker tournament buy-ins , very lucky for sure. Now you need to ensure you have some money for the trip so you can really enjoy it. I realised at this time that I can not play poker online to win money, this is why I fail every time i try. I have a really bad mental game online (not so much live) and 'needing' to win some money, to either fuel a desire for moving up or to earn some money for a trip really doesn't help much at all.So there and then I decided I'm not playing online poker again because i want to grind and move up etc and really invest time into it, unless i have 150 buy-ins.I will of course play the odd game for enterainment/semi trying hard, but I wont do this expecting to profit. It will be for the sake of enjoying the game.Anyway... that was poker. Next (this is all on Friday last weekend) I thought to myself OK. So what's your plan now? How are you going to get some money for Romania and also get your act in gear. What can you do instead of wallowing on the sports bet losses.I'm the sort of person that likes to see a positive in a negative as much as possible, and I tried to figure out what good could come out of it.Sometimes these situations can motivate us and give us the kick we need. So I decided on Friday to bid for some work I had no intentions of bidding for before, because I wasn't hugely experienced with a speciifc skillset that it needed. Without boring you with details, it requires detailed knowledge of something I wasn't super experienced in. I spent about 20 hours at the weekend studying this and getting more confident in it. I put a proposal to the client and they took it, so I am now back on track to have some money this month, and have something to do that will be stretching which can't be too bad.My plan for the rest of the month is to continue to work hard, and focus less on online poker and more on things that can earn me money.Poker wise I'm going to play some live poker around the middle of the month, most likely 100nl cash, will keep my blog updated with how that goes, as It will be nice to earn 7-8 stacks between the middle of the month and Romania! Would be a nice feeling buying into the main event and knowing i'm buying in with poker profits :)So things are going pretty well here at the moment, despite my sports bet loss! No more sports betting that's for sure this month.Tomorrow I'm in both double troubles, with my last super double trouble ticket, so will keep you updated on how that goes! Finally for those that read my earlier post about my dog.. he's got alot better and is now running about on his leg it's still sore and he stumbles now and then but i think it's all but better now! He's got a checkup at the vets tomorrow and I'm expecting some good news!Have a great week and thanks for reading!
Mynona
So, did you go to bucharest since you won a package ??? you haven't posted in a while on community....
SkilfulPoker
Hey, sorry it's been a couple of weeks @Mynona i just saw your question, I was coming to briefly update my plans for 2017. I didn't get to Bucharest unfortunately, I left my house at 6am... for the 9.20 flight, but had a couple of issues with trains, and ended up arriving at Heathrow 50 minutes before my flight, which I was pretty confident would be just fine... After 10 minutes trying to figure out the self booking in machines and getting nowhere fast, I decided it was time to try to accost someone that looked vaguely official, and set about trying to find a member of airport staff (not easy to find the right person in a semi busy airport as I learned...)Anyway eventually did find someone... and explained the machine wasn't letting me print my ticket, and I had checked in online... was directed to another kiosk and handed my passport in ... only to be told i was 3 minutes too late for check in now... the check in closes 35 minutes before the flight, and it was now 32 minutes before the flight... I said no way... can't I just board... she said no, unfortunately, so for the sake of 2 minutes I couldn't board. Long story short, after speaking with reserverations staff for an hour or so it turned out I might be able to get the flights changed at a cost, I contacted unibet, and they were amazing, kindly offered to actually pay for the replacement flights, just out of this world to be honest. Unforuntately they couldn't get hold of the right person on their side to rebook the tickets, I waited around in London all night (at a casino, after all it wouldn't be appropriate to do anything else in the circumstances now would it!) with suitcase in hand... but at 7am, we still hadn't managed to get through to the right people... so at this time we decided to give up as now the earliest flight i'd make if we did manage to sort something would be the 5pm one, arriving at 10pm, - which would leave just saturday/sunday ; and the flights are expensive, so there was the value aspect to think about as well (and i'd already missed the unibet open sat). So yes quite dissapointing, but Unibet were first class as always. I spent my £300 spending money at 100nl in the end, and played the Unibet Open betting contest in the forum instead :DUnfortunately... if that wasn't bad enough, I can no longer play poker on unibet for the time being!!!Since the Decemeber software upgrade my video card is no longer good enough to run itSo I actually haven't played any poker since before the Unibet Open, and won't be any time soon, which is why I haven't been about that much. When I was in the casino waiting to see if we could sort the flight out, I got chatting to someone from Romania, would you beleive it! He gave me some top tips for navigating the airport to the Hotel, including writing on a piece of paper where I wanted to go, only paying an amount (i forget now how much but he advised me) and then he said once you're around the hotel, it's super easy as everyone speaks English. So I'm nicely primed for next year. The week before, I was chatting to a dealer and she was from Romania also, it's funny, it's the subjective bias thing, as soon as you are focussed on something you see it everywhere. Interesting point about the brain really. But anyway I guess that's a post for another day lol. My plans for the next 6 months are to work hard, save some money and then I'm taking a month off around june/july time. I'm going to do some travelling. I will likely try to get to whatever Unibet Open is running at the time, and depending on how the saving has been going, might even buy a new computer so i can start playing on unibet again! Whatever happens it'll certainly involve poker in some capacity, and some night life in whatever town I'm in, I'll keep you updated. Have a great Christmas everyone! SkilfulPoker
Hey all,So it's officially 2017, kind of nice. Don't know what it is with the whole new year thing, as it doesn't make a huge amount of sense rationally but everytime we get to 1/1/someyear I always feel like wow the slate is clean time to really have a go at pursuing what you want to accomplish.I still can't play poker on Unibet since the client upgrade, as my pc won't run the new client due to graphic issues, and the web version is unreliable for me, so my new challenge for the year is basically win some money playing live poker , buy a new computer , then get back to playing on unibet.I'm starting my challenge with £220.00 which I have left over from the end of last year on my live casino wallet from some satelite I won. There's is an MTT i can play in next week which is £100 buy-in, and has rebuy option ; so I think i might give this a go.The alternative is i wait until they have a bigger buy-in and use my whole buy-in on it, but i think the rebuy option is quite attractive because it's nice knowing if you bust during the first day you can rebuy.I'm also starting a diet on the 8th tomorrow ! OMG i know. Damn new year! lol. I'm starting it with some other people so should be fun. It's super restrctive (just 600 calories a day) using meal replacement shakes, but i have 3 weeks supply sitting here I purchased so will see how it goes. I've done this diet once before and lost quite a lot of weight (i was on it for 3 months, with nothing but 3 shakes a day!) -- so I know it works, but it's not easy at first as you have to get your body accustomed to it. But it should be good.On the upside because it's so restrictive it forces you to be super good, for instance no alcohol etc. So for 8 months now I am not going to drink any alcohol, which for sure is a sacrifice for me, but one worth doing! So if I do play that MTT next week there will also be no alcohol, which has to be +EV i guess! So yeah should be a good start to the year. The other awesome thing about this diet from memory is the amount of money you save, it's amazing how much money you spend on small things (like coffees out ; alcohol at weekends etc) that you just don't notice until you are not buying it anymore! I'll keep the blog semi-updated with how it's going.Challenge (as of 2-1-2017):Goal:(1) Get £1500 bankroll ; buy a new computer (- ~£500) ; have £1000 bankroll left. (2) Start Exante diet on 3-1-2016 -- stay on it exclusively until 12 stone weight (approx 8 months).Progress:(1) Bankroll £220 (live mtt tickets). (2) Exante meal replacements here... ready to start tomorrow.
Magicadil
600 calories a day is extremely low even on a diet. Aren't meal replacements around 250 so you're getting around 750 just there.Best way imo if you want to lose weight but not go to gym is eat a fairly restrictive diet (around 1,200 calories) and do pushups every hour. Even if you can't do 1 when you start the motion will cause your body to adapt and get stronger. I debateShould I smile like everything's good and pretend that life is greatOr should I let the world see the real me and not hide this painI tried to be like the rest of y'all, sorry I just can'tI'ma probably die this way
SkilfulPoker
@Magicadilhey yeah it is very restrictive, but they are 200 calories per pack 3x per day, but they do have 100% RDA of vitamins, which is almost certainly healthier vitamin wise than i'm used to, as i say i've done it before for a few months, after the first 3 weeks or so you kind of get into the swing of it, just requires alot of will power at the start. The important part is after the weight is off, adjusting your lifestyle to keep it off, but one step at a time! ;)Update:I've decided to play a 100 rebuy with my mtt tickets, next weekend, so will update after day 1 and let you know if i'm still in! I'll also be taking my shake with me to the casino :D
SkilfulPoker
Day 2 of the diet so far so good! Can't play poker on unibet so thought i'd try my hand at some sports betting , just deposited the odd £7 i had in my e-wallet, lets see what we can do :DBetting in play only, might have to try some bankroll management soon, but for now just went all in on this snooker match :DWhite vs McGill , white was 1 frame up and mcgill was about 2:1 , white seems to lose alot lately so i backed mggill to come back and win... then i realised when i started watching live stream this is a different 'white' oh well :d
SkilfulPoker
Nice! That's a little victory... got a bit close at the end... McGill was leading but he let White back on the table, and ended up back at the table himself in this position...He played a reasonable safety, which won him a shot at this blue...Not easy with pressure, but... he potted itand then... went on to pot the pink for the matchWell done that man!Bankroll: £21.57I might see if i can get the web client to load again, it just keeps saying 'loading' whenever i try to open it, on chrome, firefox or IE.
