Spring 2023 Football Competition #1 ( Part 1/3, Friday 31.3 )

Most sincere apologies for the Backstreet Boys reference. That won't never ever happen again.

As some of you already may have noticed, we will be having 4 football competitions running prior and during the 2023 Spring edition of the Community Poker League. This post and the poll included will mark the start of those.

On each of the 4 competitions we will be making picks on a set of questions regarding selected matches from the European football schedule for 3 consecutive days.

To keep things as simple as possible, we will be using the community poll feature for submitting the picks.

Points for correct picks will be based on Unibet sportsbook odds and all the markets will be settled according to the sportsbook rules. You will see the potential points for a correct answer inside brackets (...) after every possible selection. We already did this during the World Cup, and everything went so well that there's no point in changing much at all. Only real difference is that we will this time have a "3-day mini leaderboard" instead of daily competitions, to determine our winners. Highest total score over the 3 day period is obviously what everyone should be aiming for.

Opta stats will be used for settling markets regarding player performances.

 

The Prizes

Prizes for 8 highest leaderboard scores are credited in €5 Community Poker League tickets for the following weeks league events, and are as follows:

1st place: €40 ( 8 tickets )

2nd place: €30 ( 6 tickets )

3rd - 4th places: €20 ( 4 tickets )

5th - 8th places: €10 ( 2 tickets )

In the unlikely scenario that two or more players finish in a prize position with the exact same amount of points and tickets can't be split evenly, we will use the following rules to make the difference.

1: Most total correct picks during the 3 day period
2: Highest points scoring single pick
3: Poll submitted earlier on most days

 

Schedule & Deadline

This poll will automatically close at the scheduled time of the first kick-off of the day, which is at 20:30 CET on Friday ( 31.3 ). You will have no way of submitting your picks after the poll has closed, so don't leave things too late.
Part 2 of this weeks competition will close at 13:30 CET on Saturday, and there will be a new post and poll about it published on Friday.

Small tidbit: Gliwice and Zabrze are derby match, both cities are spit away from each other. The pitch is in terrible state cause there is match every week there. Two teams Piast Gliwice and Ruch Chorzow share it for home matches. Same problem have San Siro since Inter and AC Milan play there week after week. Maybe after national teams games break it will look better. However if it will look how it was i wouldnt count on many goals 

Zabrze just fired german coach Bartosch Gaul [after a win, go figure] and the new one Jan Urban [once scored three goals at Santiago Bernabeu] who was removed in the summer but was still under contract so the board probably thought what the hell, come back baby! Even with last win Gornik looks like a strong candidate for relegation despite strong efforts from Lukas Podolski. Piast is grinding points mostly in very bad style and are relatively high in the table but  in relegation battle are taking part teams placed from 7-18! I would go probably for low scoring draw, but those are derbies and it can happen everything from dull 0:0 to a crazy 4:3!
