A breakeven punter's tips to maximise EV in the UOS

With the last few days of the UOS upon us I thought I would share my thoughts and tips for getting the most out the series in the hopes that it helps anyone out in future series. This is the first time I have ever tried playing a full MTT series as I am mainly a cash player, but after winning a low event on the 2nd day I figured why not play the full series and see if I can get some free leaderboard money? Here's what I've been doing to try and turn some profit:

1. Satellites & Overlay

The highlighted qualifying satellites for the daily UOS events run throughout the day in the lobby starting around 17.00 GMT. The fields in these satellites are varied, often times filled entirely with mtt regs and few fish. Why should you take notice of them? OVERLAY! The earlier on in the day the satelliets start, the higher the % chance of them having an overlay when reg closes. I have found up to £300 overlay in £500 value satellite tournaments. That means that a breakeven punter like myself can now spin up with a 150% ROI!

2. Tournament selection

If you are truly min-maxing you will need to be smart about which tournaments you are going to take shots in outside of your roll (or with your satellite tix) The tournament titles often will mislead you (normal mtt title but with super turbo structure) so make sure you check the blind levels and structure to make sure you aren't firing a bullet in a high buyin super turbo that you though was a deep stack or vice-versa. For example, lets say you just won a £100 ticket and reg to an upcoming event without looking at the structure. You're either in a 2500 15/30 with 3 min levels or a 4000 15/30 with 8 minute levels. I know which one I would rather be playing.

If you know the rules to PLO and can handle the variance the overall skill level in these fields is VERY BAD. The 100 & 200 ABI PLO events this series had an average skill level of a 25 or 50PLO cash table. Play PLO. Learn PLO. Profit.

3. Leaderboard and other freebies

The weighting of the points structure means that even a min cash in a low buy in event could actually be worth more than the min cash itself if it boosts you up in the overall leaderboard so laddering is extremely important if you are close to the bubble in the low events. The £££ in the mid and high events generally outweighs the leaderboard laddering so it is more about playing to win, but stealing free points in low buyin events can be crucial.

As for other freebies - check the forums and community for daily/weekly community giveaways and check out the unibet streamers on twitch as they often have giveaways for MTT tickets throughout the week by simply participating in the chatroom.
