New Year (Poker) Resolutions

Happy 2018 all!

As one of my own resolutions this year will be to post more on the community site (more likely to stick to than joining a gym), I wanted to start a thread to see if anyone had any poker-related new year resolutions? I seem to remember I once had a resolution to close my laptop for 30 seconds and breath after particularly horrific bad beats but somehow it never stuck...

I hope to apply myself a bit better to the game by doing the following....

1. I have never read a poker book or done any serious online studying so I plan to read at least one book 😏

2. Drink less while playing poker, I like to kid myself I can do both at once but I suspect I really can't :teardrop:

3. Play some live poker at my local casino... I have never played other than online and suspect this would be a big disadvantage should I ever...

4. qualify to play in a UK or UO event 😀

Happy pokering in 2018 everyone 😉

My volume goal for 2018 is to play 2000 online MTTs and 4 live events. Other than that, I want to make a solid study plan to improve as a player, and have fun while doing it. And I have the resolution to beg the Unibet people for some giveaways for my Twitch channel 😏

1. Only play when I feel up to it and not for the sake of it (most important)

2. Become a more trusted and supportive member of this community through posts on here and support on twitch.

3. Have a go at streaming on twitch myself.

4. I had my most profitable year in 2017 since 2013 so beating that again, hopefully!

5. Play a decent event in at least 3 live venues I have never been to before. (Hoping Unibet UK Tour can help me with this as I have never been Glasgow or Brighton).

6. Qualify for a UO.

Tempted to put some volume or points based goals but feel like that is going to make me stray from my number one point.

Good luck all.

Great question!  Mine is to...

Have a mindset to play every hand optimally and fearlessly.

A short sentence which needs further explanation:

  • 'every' - ok this isn't possible in the real world.  I did consider changing the above to '… try to play every hand…' but felt this was too negative and a bit of a cop out.  I'd rather be telling my sub-conscious to aim high than give it a get out clause.
  • 'optimally' - again this isn't literally possible.  Using 'having a mindset' qualifies this so that it means I will be attempting to do this to the best of my ability.  I was going to use the words 'to the best of my ability' but feel that 'optimally' is more of a spur to action.
  • 'fearlessly' - don't worry about being knocked out or losing lots of chips.  If the decision is the correct one having allowed for ICM etc, then any deviation from that decision is -EV.

I will admit to being a long way from being there, but that is my goal.

To help me with this I am going to get more sleep, and I will be using Flopzilla to get a much stronger feel for my equity v  the pot odds.  I will also be spending time improving my focus.

I haven't got specific financial goals as my profit will depend on how I run in tournaments, especially live ones, and this brings in a lot of volatility to the results not directly related to how well I've played.  If I manage to follow the above then I would hope the results will look after themselves.  And if not, then bankroll management will keep me safe.

I haven't got specific volume goals, other than to make time to play more online tournaments and to try to play a live tournament at least 10 times during the year.

Here is my resolution... and that sticks until july at least, thanks to unibet :D Tools for tool.

Maybe i´ll regret it when community offers another poker freerolls, but then again, haven´t won anything from them anyways. Except freebet for not getting in the money :D

If i get urge for poker, i´ll just hit in to casino and play live games, tired of the internet poker :dissatisfied:

1. Work on my mental game, cost me so much money in the last 3 months alone its frustrating to not be able to get where I want to be mentally, I imagine this should be #1 for most people to be honest.

2. Put time and effort into satelling into more live events instead of just buying in and doing my bollocks over the course of the year (better success and deep runs live would also be welcome)

3. Play less on stars and more places like Unibet that have much lower variance.

4. Be more active in this community and meet people in live events.

5. Not let my freeroll and other Unibet tickets expire all the time 😠

6. Actually making a fold when opponents hand range is crushing me but still heroing.

7. Make Unibet my main site for grinding to take advantage of rakeback and all the excellent freerolls/promotions.

Great start to number 7, cashed in double trouble and super double trouble last night for 440e

I've just spent a few minutes liking the previos posts in this thread then realised most were from last year. :teardrop:

Anyway most should still be on the agenda.

@theMachine You may find some of these useful if you still have tilt issues, varios sizes and thicknesses available, can also be used to prop up the br. 🤣

@PompeyPoker A good solid set of objectives but my main one is not to have to play the double trouble freerolls ever again. Maybe a bit ambitious but you never know.🤣

End of year report on my 2018 poker resolutions...

I hope to apply myself a bit better to the game by doing the following....

1. I have never read a poker book or done any serious online studying so I plan to read at least one book /html/images/emoticons/Asset30.png - Bought Moormans Book of Poker and read the various introductions. So a decent start I think. Persevere in 2019.

2. Drink less while playing poker, I like to kid myself I can do both at once but I suspect I really can't /html/images/emoticons/Asset10.png - Not sure if I realised this ambition, but as I still wake up occasionally and realise I've self-excluded or have zero monies but can't remember how it happened, so probably not. Carry over to 2019.

3. Play some live poker at my local casino... I have never played other than online and suspect this would be a big disadvantage should I ever... - Did play a qualifier for UK Glasgow in my local casino and played the community game with the Unibet guys and girls. More of this in 2019.

4. qualify to play in a UK or UO event /html/images/emoticons/Asset8.png - Failed, but I now have UK final tickets which can't be broken down and need to be played. Don't work every Saturday anymore so can play at least some of them before they expire.

A Happy New Pokering Year to all of you 😃

Play more poker.

This quater I'm aiming for 800,000 challenge points and working on a uncocnious competence style for mass multitabling 5 max SNGs (10's and 4's).

Second quarter I'll be working on my game but still aiming for 1 Million challenge points.

Quarter three has 92 days so aiming for 1.25 - 1.5 Million points depending on if:

a: I'm physically able to play that many hours

b: There is enough volume

Currently I'm playing 10's and 4's when I need to fill gaps.

A change to the SNG buyins would be hugely advantagous if it went:

€1 - €2 - €4 - €8 - €16 - €30 - €60 - €100
