Psycho79
Hello Players!@Psycho79 here! Welcome 2018 :atisfied: the New Year has come, time for new goals. I would like to announce my new challenge, from 40€ to 5000€ on Heads-up SNGs. I'll be using the similar stakes scheme as with my first challenge, you will find it below. I'm going to start with 4€ SNGs and 10Buyins. I'm giving myself three attempts as before, so going down below 4€ for a third time means the challenge is failed. The goal is to reach 5000€, which is 25Buyins for the highest possible level to play, 200€. No time frame to do that, no particular number of games. Apart from closing the challenge, my only goal is to improve my HU game and become a better player through this. I've always considered HU one of the most important parts of the game, the purest form of experiencing poker and the best way of developing your game. Whether you play MTTs or SNGs, you always end up in a point where your HU ability decides of your ROI, it's inevitable and undeniable. Let's do it, let's set off this journey right away Wish me luck and meet me at the tables. See you players! 40€ => 100€ 4€ 100€ => 250€ 10€ 80€=>4€ 250€ => 500€ 25€ 200€=>10€ 500€ => 1000€ 50€ 400€=>25€ 1000€ => 2000€ 100€ 800€=>50€ 2000€ => 5000€ 200€ 1600€=>100€

Caladrias
You know I've also been playing some of these at the end of my sessions in the past couple of months. I'm pretty sure you'll quickly reach the €25 level (no pressure ). That's where some regs start to come in, but you'll notice soon that the softness of these games really varies a lot at different moments. I'm very curious to see how you'll do in the highest buyin levels eventually! Best of luck!

Psycho79
Today I played 13 games to start the challenge. I won 8 of them. ROI 19.38%. After a terrific beginning, won first 5 games, they reminded me there's a thing called variance It will probably be my biggest opponent at these stakes, it's my first conclusion. I lost at least two duels, grinding players down 2-3 times just to lose the final flips. Poker math works the same for everyone :scared: @FreedoM, your faith in myself flatters me, but the end of March seems to be overmuch optimistic The games will get tougher with stakes. Besides, the challenge is only a small part of my game plan, I have to play my regular tournaments, so @4soul no, not only SNGs. @Caladrias, I'll be happy to play some games against you when I get there, always up for battling creative players just to learn new things Thanks everyone for wishing me luck, see you soon!4€ => 7.76€, +3.76€1. 40.00€ w 2. 43.76€ w 3. 47.52€ w 4. 51.28€ w 5. 55.04€ w 6. 58.80€ l 7. 54.80€ l 8. 50.80€ w 9. 54.56€ l 10. 50.56€ l 11. 46.56€ w 12. 50.32€ w 13. 54.08€ l 50.08€

FreedoM
@Psycho79 I was thinking you put a little more volume like at least 50-100 a day, that's why i was thinking you will complete it by end of march. And another reason i was thinking will be easy for you is you have more discipline and i did sort of a run from €1 with €50 BR in the last week of december and reached €460 before Cashing Out.
Brocky
Good luck, am I reading it correctly that you will move down after losing 2 buy ins after moving up though? The swings in these can be crazy so there's really not much room for manoeuvre in your BRM.
Psycho79
Hello Players! It has been a week since I started the challenge. I managed to play 100 SNGs, but the results are not satisfying at all. I worked out only a profit of 11.28€, which stands for the very low ROI=2.82%. I expected much more, having focus on the quality of my game rather than the volume. The plan was to experiment/develop/evolve strategies from the start to put myself in a good position/condition for the further stages of the challenge. I'v considered myself a soild HU player, but I might have been wrong I realized what differs the players from the 4€-HU-SNG-Pool from an average player that got to the HU in any MTT. The latter one simply cares about the result :scared: When you get so far in a tournament you do everything in your power to win it, either motivated by the money awating or the desire to compete and prove yourself. The HU-SNGs players at these stakes certainly don't have such stimuli and act much more "chaotically". There are some to start shoving at you from the very first hand, and addapting to that is quite simple. But, some play reasonably well at the beginning and finally "booom"...calling down your bluff with totally nothing which is better than yours anyway  They're getting bored probably with my low-variance style, no fireworks :dissatisfied: One of the conclusions is that I tend to play this variant definitely to long against a particular type of a player, making myself too easy to exploit at the latter levels. There were too many games with the same scenario: I grinded them down, the blinds went up, they started shoving/I folded too much, I lost...This one to improve for sure. One of my issues was the loss of concentration during the session. I often started with muliple winnings, and closed it with losing streaks. I've also tried to level up with some players which obviously makes no sense at these stakes One aspect worth attention is certainly inducing with your value hands, cause players losing their tempers way too often. Towards the end of the first 100, I decided to try 4-tabling these. The results didn't change much, so the new plan is to put a bit more volume to see what happens. If I can't conquer the players I'll grind the variance through at least I hope that the above conlusions will help me to move on finally. I'll play at least 150 games until the next Friday, focusing on establishing some more edges. Wish me luck, join me at tables! Psycho79
@Brocky the swings can be cruel in these games indeed, but I used the stakes scheme with my first challenge and it worked well cause I'm disciplined about going up/down. I don't want to spend my life on 4€s neighter The merit of this approach is to climb up and learn from your experience. Even if I go down after the two unsuccessful attempts , I have a material already to analyze what I did wrong and what I should do to improve and succeed next time. GamesDean
4-tabling HU SNGs sounds like an insanely hard task to me – no surprise, you lost your concentration while grinding. You have to make decisions every split second while having zero breathing space to calm your thoughts. Sure, real grinders are able to multitable these with ease but imo you should try 2 tables first and see where your mind goes. If it works, add one more and so on. Psycho79
Hello Players! The only good news about the challenge is that I managed to play 150+ games according to the plan from the last week. This morning fired up the last four and lost it all, which means I busted the first attempt. The challenge has been pain and tears so far, and if I was a fan of the conspiracy theories in poker I would certainly have much "evidence" after this week Fortunately for all, including myself, I'm not the fan, even though repeatedly disgusted with what was happening at the tables recently :puking: Above all, my strategy wasn't surely optimal, and this has led me to the point I'm at. All 156 games were played in the group of fours, and ordered for easier calculations if someone wondered. @GamesDean, 4-tabling HUs seems hard at the beginning but unlike you can think from the technical point of view it was not the issue. Your decisions are mostly automatic, and you rarely need more time to figure out the next move, no hurry at all. It keeps you focused all the time and you can always take a breath after another chunk. Of course you lose some part of information and forced to play schematics. These are always the charms of multitabling My plan was to grind the volume through with the mathematical+GTO approach rather than exploiting my opponents with some unconventional plays adjusted for their level and the dynamics which I like the most. And the truth is I failed doing this. I had doubled the starting bankroll at some point but overall I exposed myself to the grace of variance too much, which efficiently cooled down my enthusiasm for the game. I put a lot of time and attention into the challenge, and simply can't let it to have a negative impact on my regular games. Across the board, my MTT results are satisfying for sure over the last weeks. For me, HUs have always been growing dynamics between the two players, the ability to deviate from your standards and addapt even quicker than in the other formats. It's time to get back to the approach and slow down. Poker should be an enjoyable experiance foremost, especially if you go with your side project like this challenge :atisfied: I'll take a deep breath and come back with the 2nd attempt on Monday. GamesDean
@Psycho79 wrote: For me, HUs have always been growing dynamics between the two players, the ability to deviate from your standards and addapt even quicker than in the other formats.Indeed. Were you at the €25 Abyss final table last night? I was playing as TheLeechKing and actually won the tourney – after starting the table 9/9 and having 4 or 5 big blinds at some point. My point is, my opponent played much different HU than 3- or 4-handed – way more aggressive, way more moves, way more anything. It took me a while to adapt but in the end I was able to make a sick hero call and grind him down after that. HU SNGs are different in comparison to MTT HU situations, of course, since MTT players rarely play HU and mostly suck at it. But in my experience, no HU is the same because there are way more variables, way more things you can do wrong or right. It’s the ultimate test imo if you are a decent Hold’em player or just a lucky nit. That’s why I was wondering the other day, how you are able to play 4 tables at the same time vs. different opponents all the time. Makes sense if you apply a GTO strat – unfortunate it didn’t work out on the first bullet but I wish you good luck in the near future!
Psycho79
Hello Players! I has been a while, or a bit longer After busting the first attempt I decided to slow this down and take a breath but it soon came up my regular games didn't go great as well and I had to put more stress over there. Still, in the meantime I played the SNGs when felt like it, sometimes a dozen in a row, sometimes not a single one for a week. Consequently, I've finally gotten to the second level, having played 131 games with 3.05% ROI. According to the plan, I'm allowed to take two 10€ SNGs, which I'm going to do tomorrow in the morning. Wish me luck to hold up there saying goodbye to 4€s. Who knows, maybe these stakes will be more fortunate for me. As to the 4€s, I forgot about multitabling these after the previous experience. I tried to focus on each opponent independently from the start, and deviate from my standards as quick as possible recognizing what their capable of, and how I should exploit it. I think it went much better this time, and I've gained some experience that will be helpful with pacing up the challenge. See you soon, GL!P.S. Huge thanks to maestro1908, my mental coach almost , who supported me many times when started to doubt myself. 40.00€ 1. w 43.76€ 2. w 47.52€ 3. w 51.28€ 4. w 55.04€ 5. l 51.04€ 6. w 54.80€ 7. w 58.56€ 8. w 62.32€ 9. w 66.08€ 10. l 62.08€ 11. w 65.84€ 12. w 69.60€ 13. w 73.36€ 14. l 69.36€ 15. l 65.36€ 16. w 69.12€ 17. l 65.12€ 18. w 68.88€ 19. w 72.64€ 20. l 68.64€ 21. l 64.64€ 22. l 60.64€ 23. w 64.40€ 24. w 68.16€ 25. l 64.16€ 26. w 67.92€ 27. l 63.92€ 28. w 67.68€ 29. l 63.68€ 30. l 59.68€ 31. l 55.68€ 32. l 51.68€ 33. l 47.68€ 34. l 43.68€ 35. w 47.44€ 36. l 43.44€ 37. w 47.20€ 38. w 50.96€ 39. w 54.72€ 40. w 58.48€ 41. w 62.24€ 42. w 66.00€ 43. l 62.00€ 44. l 58.00€ 45. l 54.00€ 46. w 57.76€ 48. w 61.52€ 49. l 57.52€ 50. w 61.28€ 51. w 65.04€ 52. w 68.80€ 53. l 64.80€ 54. w 68.56€ 55. w 72.32€ 56. w 76.08€ 57. l 72.08€ 58. w 75.84€ 59. l 71.84€ 60. w 75.60€ 61. l 71.60€ 62. l 67.60€ 63. l 63.60€ 64. w 67.36€ 65. l 63.36€ 66. l 59.36€ 67. w 63.12€ 68. w 66.88€ 69. l 62.88€ 70. w 66.64€ 71. w 70.40€ 72. w 74.16€ 73. w 77.92€ 74. l 73.92€ 75. w 77.68€ 76. w 81.44€ 77. l 77.44€ 78. l 73.44€ 79. l 69.44€ 80. w 73.20€ 81. w 76.96€ 82. w 80.72€ 83. l 76.72€ 84. w 80.48€ 85. l 76.48€ 86. w 80.24€ 87. l 76.24€ 88. l 72.24€ 89. l 68.14€ 90. l 64.14€ 91. l 60.14€ 92. l 56.14€ 93. w 59.90€ 94. l 55.90€ 95. l 51.90€ 96. l 47.90€ 97. w 51.66€ 98. w 55.42€ 99. l 51.42€ 100. w 55.18€ 101. w 58.94€ 102. w 62.70€ 103. w 66.46€ 104. w 70.22€ 105. l 66.22€ 106. w 69.98€ 107. l 65.98€ 108. w 69.74€ 109. l 65.74€ 110. w 69.50€ 111. w 73.26€ 112. l 69.26€ 113. l 65.26€ 114. w 69.02€ 115. w 72.78€ 116. w 76.54€ 117. w 80.30€ 118. l 76.30€ 119. l 72.30€ 120. w 76.06€ 121. w 79.82€ 122. w 83.58€ 123. w 87.34€ 124. w 91.10€ 125. l 87.10€ 126. w 90.86€ 127. w 94.62€ 128. w 98.38€ 129. l 94.38€ 130. w 98.14€ 131. w 101.90€
Psycho79
Hello Players!I've played only 10 games of the new level - 10€ since the last time. Symmetrical results distribution Won 6 out of 10. It's too early to say if it's a hold up but definitely enjoyed playing them and looking forward for the next ones. Eventhough it's not a giant step ahead in stakes you can certainly notice a slight difference in some players thinking. Still ,there are some not respecting anyone's game at all A bigger sample will tell me which ones are the majority. Just hoping the ride to 25€s will be much smoother than the last one See You at tables, GL Players!132. w 111.30€ 133. w 120.70€ 134. w 130.10€ 135. l 120.10€ 136. l 110.10€ 137. l 100.10€ 138. l 90.10€ 139. w 99.50€ 140. w 108.90€ 141. w 118.30€
GR1ZZL3R
Hi @Psycho79 just found this blog and think it very interesting, but no regular updates. Is it still going, or done with. Psycho79
@GR1ZZL3Rthanks for your interest in the challenge :happyshy: although it hasn't been updated for long it's still on the run and I won't certainly quit on that until either finished or busted. I just keep a really slow pace for now as my regular games are not going too well. I hope it changes soon so I could put more time and focus to the challenge. GL! lemn
hi, do you play hu sng even now, or you gave up the hu poker?
Psycho79
Hey @lemn! I had to suspend my challenge for a while cause I've had issues with my regular games and therefore lack of time. I haven't updated it, but I will have to move down to 4€s again. I think I'll get back to it right after UOS. Still, it's doable and love playing HU. Thanks for motivating me! lemn
I want to grind and build a br in hu sng and I am looking for someone to talk about hu sng
Psycho79
@lemn I'm probably the wrong person to talk about HU SNGs, but I really don't recommend building rollz on that :scared: There are plenty easier and more pleasant ways for that, 5mans for instance. HU games can be really improvement stimulating, but also frustrating if you've just started playing poker. Whatever you choose, GL with that
